Ah, I finally give up. Those elbow and knee protectors are getting worse and worse, both in smell, and in overall condition. CDC doesn't seem to want to buy new ones either, but walking towards the basket you get the stench, and trying to find reasonably OK pads while holding my breath is getting too much. :faint: Must get my own, I guess...

So, anyone have any idea what type of pads are OK? Ideas/recommendations on where to go, what type to buy would be much appreciated. I got my inline pads, but I doubt they're rated for 70km/h speeds. ;)

Yah, I do agree the pads at CDC are in horrible condition, therefore I am using mine.

You can get those elbow and knee guards for roller blading at any sport shops, or just borrow from friends who do blading.

Alternatively, u can visit carrefour - dept that sells bicycle and roller blades, they do hv knee and elbow guards too at approx $20 per set.

Good luck!

lucky my time no need elbow guards... for 2b

but notice that the smell is horrible while sitting there waiting for friend to complete the course..

hmm... the conditions are bad. the straps and stuffs. when rain. lagi worse. the smell and stuffs all come out. then imagine the water soaked in the pads all flow out on your hands, jeans. YUCKS!

$12? So cheap lah! Too bad, though, already went out and bought a set before lesson today. Asked counter, said no problem, better even. I contemplated trying my older inline pads, but they're those plastic ones that you can dent just by pushing on it. New ones much better, and it's so worth it, none of that rancid, BO stench. Not blaming any one individual though ;)

CDC actually just changed their elbow & knee guards last june or july or something...but well...imagine the number of people going for lessons daily....plus the different sizes of individual arms etc...think 1 month is enough to make the thing smell horribly.

Posted

CDC now their padding strip had been removed...

they expect you to slot your whole arm and leg in the padding... and it is so much of an uncomfortable + smelly too..

Everyone getting thru the license phase at CDC will have their own stories of smelly helmets, paddings and wet bright-coloured raincoats which let water in. It is what binds us together

Ah, the sense of achievement. Finally finished Prac.8! :D

...and then go book TP, and find only 20 Nov open. :faint: And the no cancellation policy kicking in makes this definitely an 8 weeks 2 day break between final lesson and test, in which I'm not going to do anything for 7 weeks. Hell'll freeze over before I do more than 2 road revisions; why give CDC more money for forcing a 2 month wait?

So final tally is lessons took me a total of 6 weeks.... and test waiting period is adding up to nearly 15 weeks. :sian:

[Rant] This whole new cancellation policy seems badly thought out, I'm sure that there are many people who can't verify plans 2+ months in advance. And after booking, there are a whole ton of reasons that people might need to change plans, I mean, things tend to change. CDC even specifies that medical emergency are not reason enough to cancel. :nono: I hope large numbers of people can't show up for tests, and have to rebook later dates, forcing even longer wait times for tests; one can hope 6,7,8+month wait times (Class 3) will make people complain to the TP, who should force a change to the policy....

This could also drive people away from driving schools to private instructors; at least PI's would reasonable in allowing cancellation of car rentals for the tests. $100+ or whatever for car rental is a reasonably large sum of money to have to forfeit, especially when you don't even use the damn thing.

If the reasoning behind this new policy is to stop selling of dates, there are better ways of doing so. Release cancelled spots using a randomized timer, allow people to place their name on waitlists for testdates, or even have a lottery for cancelled slots to be filled. Only time will see if this policy stays, but I sure hope it doesn't. [/Rant]

Ah, that feels better ;)

It seem that you are ranting on alot of things..

you are lucky tat you complete your lesson in 6 weeks.

if u want fast TP test go ahead to bbdc..

u need to sacrifice some to gain some..

Not really a lot of things, just the new cancellation policy... which directly affects the availability of slots for test dates. Now, I won't claim that I would definitely get a cancelled slot, but at least before a few people (from 100+; likely, no?) would have to cancel due to other commitments cropping up, and someone else who could go would be able to take it instead, whereas now possible cancelers just be no-shows, a waste of a slot. (I have a feeling they haven't been releasing cancelled RTT slots for a while, but I might be wrong)

If I have to wait xx weeks for a test date, I don't mind (though missing the final slots for Oct date by 4 days kinda hurt), but having to wait long for a test date knowing there might be a slot that should be available really got my goat. Granted, no changes would affect my test or license, but I think it's a silly policy that should not have been implemented, and should be reverted for a better alternative for future learners.

And in regards to finishing in 6 weeks... it's not like I breezed through all lessons 1st time, i had to schedule time out from other things to do that, sometimes 3, 4, 5 times a week. 19 lessons (plus 6 odd revisions) so while I guess I'm not the slowest, I'm sure I'm not the fastest either. Having driven in other countries previously (though I never obtained a full license) probably helped with confidence on the road too, lowered the repeats of Prac.6-8.

Anyway, like I said, I'm done with my rant, nothing I can do to help myself get in a better position, I'll send my feedback to CDC after I get my license (don't want problems now, ya know? ;)) and I'll know how to better plan when I book a test date to finally get my car license.

FTT currently is 28 OCT but i don't intend to refresh for slots ah since i'm not in a hurry for class 3. :cheeky:

for my RTT it was from 13 OCT. refresh to 11 OCT. and lastly 29 SEP. hope i pass then i can wear the dark green tag! :cheeky:

ho seh liao. next RTT 3rd NOV... guess i needa go for more etrials or rather start going for etrials... :(

Ouch, that's too bad. I guess I was wrong about them releasing test dates, but for 7 weeks, I never saw that RTT date move closer. But moot point now, 1 more day till cancellation policy kicks in. Refresh like crazy today. ;)

And yea, do some e-trials. Sure, it uses up time, but book them together to minimize travel time. I'd suggest doing 4-5 (I did 3), it should be enough for you to do all the 10 or so practices at least once if not more. Don't answer questions you're not 100% sure about, that way it'll be easier to spot when you finish, and you can memorize the right answer.

Also, remember which the hardest sets are, and book an etrial just before the test. gets you in the right mindset to do the test. Hope you have better luck this time!

It seems like 2 months is the normal waiting time for TPs at CDC... though they have TP tests every month? I got the dates 22nd July, 23rd Sept. And the next nearest one should be 18th Nov.

Yeah, those elbow knee, guards has got some real stench! I usually use my SSDC ones. haha...

Test dates, see: here and here. And yes, I know it says no refund for cancellation, but i asked the lady booking my test at the desk, and was told no earlier test date slots can open up anymore; seem to be connected, eh.

Anyway, all the Driving Schools seem to be doing this, probably because people were being so open about selling test dates, looks like some were doing it for ridiculous amounts of monies, and some reporters got it in the news. And, I guess in wanting to be fair, some bureaucrat seems to have just knee-jerked and, instead of implementing a system which would make cancellations for money near impossible, disallowed cancellations altogether. *shrug*

any idea what time does the TP counter closes? i wanna apply my class 3 pdl..

I think M-F 9-4-something or so, and Saturday 9-12, it's something like that. Call CDC to make sure. Best to see if can go early, sometimes gets crowded: my wait time was something like 30 odd mins.

Yea prac 1 tml ~~~~
