its the same pics as them. Worse still, my hp camera only has ONE megapixel. So forget it...

 

I enjoyed myself on the outing. I would rather a few riders at a time then to have a big group which i dunno who is who.

I have a few question about my bike, maybe you all can help me answer as i'm still so new to the bike.

 

1. Previous owner says there's problem with the front harness. What's that?

2. i want to pump air, how much pressure for each tyre?

3. my bike 180km on reserve liao, is it alright?

4. suddenly feel my bike no power.. dunno is it a problem or just me getting used to the power?

5. Bike tuning too low, warm up always die off, can i adjust myself? or need go bike shop?

6. Spark plug and engine oil how long change one time?

3. i dun think its ok.. ur petrol consumption very high leh.. i think u need to go tuning.. which i think might solve ur problem number 4 and 5.

6. 10000km change sparkplug, 5000km change engine oil.(still can use more than the distance mention) cos the readings i give is from motodiam(they wanna make money wad so ask ppl change earlier)

SInce you just got yr bike,better to go wash and tune 1 time.They will then adjust the timing for you.FC 180km considered very high.As for EO change,recommended change would be every 3000km(semi-synthethic) or 5000km(fully synthethic).Sparkplugs around 10000 to 12000km.Enjoy yr ride.

Actually, a few of us come out for kopi ocassionally. And its what older rvfians prefer to do as opposed to riding all over singapore like what younger folks like. But for a RVF Outing....6 bikes....sighhh.

 

I miss that one and only time when 30 RVFs tore down the streets of kallang.....the sound from the 30 little V4s...oooh..orgasmic!!

 

well.. i dun have yr number but wayne should right? Just watch this thread for more outings announcement lor.

hey vicky,

 

i'll try to help on the rest that is not answered;

 

1) he should be either.... be refering to ;

 

a) the harness leading to the headlights. The headlights are a common source of electrical failure if you use bulb ratings higher than 35/55 W.It can burn at the switch, or the high beam switch or the headlights contacts or the wiring loom leading up to the contacts. Stick to the oem ratings to avoid such problems, if not..install a switch and relay at any mechanics that you trust or often frequent.

 

Or..

 

b) The wiring loom interconnect under the tank, lined up against the front of your aluminuim twin spar frames. 2 of my mechs said that area is prone to burn too. For what reason i dunno, hasnt happen to me (or any rvfians i know) but my best guess is harness chaffing against weld edges.

 

 

2) Tires pressure for rider alone ; 33psi front....33 psi back ( yea iz weird that front and back are the same but thaz what the Haynes manual says.)

 

pressure for rider + pillion ; 33 ps front..... 36 psi back.

 

If you forget.... look down the left hand side swingarm. Its printed on a label on your chain guard...in Japanese words of course. It will read as "Qian Lun"..... " Huo Lun". Units in kpa.

 

 

5) Prob 5 like the others said..could be due to your carb in need of svc. But even when its properly tune....it can be hard to maintain an idle on cold starts especially during dewy cold mornings and nights where condensation levels are high.

 

So.....DO this; start bike..maintain throttle slightly to keep revs at about 1.5K rpm for about 20-30 seconds. SLowly let go...the bike should settle in to a nice idle (if u ask me why...i'll have to answer in next post).

 

Next, check idling speed (rpm) when bike is warmed up. it should ideally be in the 1000-1300 range. Not too low or you'll have problems with cold starts. You can adjust it yourself via the cute little knob located on the left hand side fairing recess (where Eugene pointed to you that you have a missing screw ) Its right next to the choke lever. Clockwise is Increase and vice versa ..try it! Its fun!

i'm the one whom u met at the carnival who knows the previous owner of ur bike.

Actually ur bike's main harness is starting melt already.

It's the piece of fuse located somewhere at ur tailboard.

Well its always better to fix the problem b4 it get worse.

maybe when there is any rvf outing juz ask wayne to ask me along too loh.

shay, whats the looms at frame thingy? I a bit lost leh. Explain leh. As for K&N, I read about this before on some other foreign forum as well but just wondering wats the diff and was hoping for some replies from fellow rvfian (hopefully someone with a dyno diagram ok lah its a bit pushing it but maybe a K&N advert graph or something, hint hint guys). Well at least I am not the only one thinking along the same lines.

 

naptune, suggest you check the harness using continuity test first lah.

harness one set 280 leh, at least what I last remember. anyway most of the time can savage one. btw ur bike not my neighbour's previous bike, his num is quite similar though.

 

kawasakininja, melting at fuse area, the fuse box or the 30A fuse at the starter relay? interesting, never seen this before. so could it be due heat from the engine or overcurrent? did the previous owner do anything?

 

wayne dun disturb lah, fierce RVF no need cute knob one, only road bike then need.

1) like shay mentioned, due to change of the now available headlight bulbs, the connection can melt. alternative u can run ur bike with one headlight as a quick fix. but if ur harness already has a problem, than get the wiring, sorted out. as this may short circuit, causing fuse to blow and make ur time with RVF a horrible one.

 

2) me using 36 front and 42 rear. if not tyres get heated up on the road easily. i need my tyres for other purpose.

 

3,4,5) there is a chance ur prev owner could have set the bike for another exhaust system. like my bike is now running at 170km including reserve. but sometime ago, clifford(K&T) did some adjustments and it went about 240 before reserve. bike was running smooth on the road. if ur bike setting is off, u have chances of low power, bad mileage, and spark plugs could spoil sooner than expected. like my bike now, it runs horrible with the Original End Can. But with the race can, alot better.

 

6) Spark plugs I wait till spoil then change. RVF plugs are not cheap. coming between 16-18 a piece. u bike can still run with 2 spoilt plugs. enough to make it to the nearest workshop. Engine Oil, about 5000km - 6000km with oil filter. if u want to save 15 bucks, then u can change ur oil filter at every 2nd oil change.
