Check out the Pipes on this baby!

wa....look at that impossibly spotless swingarm and undercarriage!!

Hey got a question....any tips u guys have to make the swingarm, exhuast area squeaky and shamlessly clean? What products do u guys use for solvents, brushes etc?

I cant find a suitable brush that can clean hard to reach places like the rear suspension. Most DIY and hardware shop sell soft bristle brushes.... :sian: ..tried toothbrush oso not very effective.

after cleaning chain with kerosene, i use kerosene to clean the swing arm with a rag. once in a while, remove the footrest and sprocket to clean the behind areas. after that use autosol and polish. but after one track session, back to sqaure one.

the worry i have about using degreaser is the stuff getting on to the chain. if it remains on the chain, in coming lube will be washed away too.

there is another product similar to wd40/rp7. its called either LSP or LPS. a green can spray. functions the same, but does not have the oil surface after that. very dry. i heard the hardware shops behind the coffee shop opp LAB got sell. havent tried it myself.

not just the swing arm, but the gear linkage gets dirty too. i once saw a product like SOCKS for shocks. it wraps over the shock. Velcro attachment with water proof material. about 30US. saw it on ebay. i think its a good investment for RVF, since we dun have a hugger.

Pen Ray u say? My concern is; is the cleaning too powerful? Coz i think i tried a degreaser and it bloodly washes off some of the the Ink on the metal label plate on the swingarm that says something like " Designed By ELF" . SO freaking pissed.

oh yea...WD40 does the same thing too. i guess u have to rinse them off immediately but i guess i was following instructions on the bottle tellin me to let the product STAY ON for a minute. Oh well....so much for reading instructions.

Now scrubbing like mad with normal detergent soap.

ANd also...how u guys clean the suspension area? Share yr methods!

Its quite a Bit*h to reach behind aint it?

To the cleaners, i tried using the penray degreaser on stock muffler and engine casing and after awhile, colour of metal became dull.. especially on some weldings on the back part of header. ( immediately became dark brown in colour)!! low morale. Think can autosol back again?

Does anybody experience a loud "tak" noise when engaging neutral to 1st gear? Sounds like something break. Care to share? thx

3 possibilities.

1) most likely, ur clutch plates has worn out. 100++ at K&T. if the metal plates spoil too, then its about 200++. recommended to change engine oil too. in the mean time, u might want to try adjusting ur clutch lever free play. try making the biting point further.

2) a loose chain will cause noise and jerk the whole bike. most motorshops do this for free, provided they use the proper tools. beware, some shops use hammer and screw driver which may damage the hub.

3) worst circumstance is the whole clutch housing spoil. considering the fact that RVFs are between 8 to 12 years old now. this cost a bomb.

Don't just break your laptimes, SHATTER them!!

especially when clutch plates are just changed, its very smooth and almost 'tak'less.

Cannot use Penray on muffler/headers/exhaust.I use only on the swingarms.
