Guys, about using the Metzeler M1 for cornering, I've had bad experiences with it @ Pasir Gudang. It kept on wanting to slip under bends and tight corners.

In retrospect, if I had banked lower, well... you know what I mean.

And oh yeah, I crashed last January's trackday because I had a tankslapper while coming out of a turn. The experience was not pleasant.

But it's advertised to be a good tyre for all-rounded touring and it's wet-road capable as well.

RVF put sliders much cut fairin right?

If you look carefully @ the left side of our RVF's metal frame -- towards the front, there's an unoccupied hole in which a screw can be inserted. I believe this is the place to mount a steering damper. Look closely at natgw's signature...his bike has a slider mounted.

and i really wonder how does a damper help aH?

Without a damper, when a tankslap happens (did you see the vid MC28 provided above?) the handlebars will continue wobbling left and right. If incorrect actions are taken, this tankslap can intensify until the bike/rider loses control.

A steering damper is like those you find in spring loaded doors you see in an office...once an office person opens the door, the spring mounted at the top of the door "slowly" closes the door. So yeah, steering damper = cushion any rude wobbling aka tank slaps.

Aiyah...sorry ah, didn't see properly.

Next time I'll promise fufu I'll lower my caffeine intake @ work.

Er anyways, it's easier if I show you a picture of an RVF with sliders installed:

Take note that to install sliders on both sides, a semi-circular hole that's the shape of the slide has to be drilled out.

Ok. Got it bro. It http://www.tayprotec.com. Go to dealers and find r and g racing. It cost quite a bomb. Nearly 100gbp means plus shipping can reach up to $400. They wrote it inside non drill frame slider. Hope u got it.

Hey RVF Rossi, not too sure whether you've seen but there's another kind of fall-protection structure that I saw somewhere. A British track junkie bought an internal "crash bar" for his RVF. This bar is hidden by the bottom fairings and it wraps around the front parts of the bike, protecting i think the pipes and the bottom parts of the bike's engine.

den wad are the proper actions u should take when u start tank slapping? how come corner come out will tank slap 1 meh..

Scoot over to the On The Racetrack forums. You will see a Tankslappers - how to handle them thread.

At that time when I crashed, there were a lot of factors that might have contributed to it...maybe it was my M1 tyre, maybe it was my improperly tuned suspension, i dunno. But the past few weeks before the trackday I have noticed that when I began pushing to go faster, the rear would just "fishtail" wobble a little whenever. It's like little slides happening as I was banked during the turn.

Needless to say, I didn't pay attention and just let that happen anyway. Silly me.

Anyways, let's get back to your questions. Understand that a tankslap may begin when at high speed environments, your wheel either:

1. Gets shifted (or shall I say, knocked) one side abruptly, apart from being centre all the time. Caused by many things including road dirt and obstacles...won't list them all here.

2. Gets lifted off into the air momentarily and it so happens that when it lands back onto the road, the wheel is pointed off-centre.

For (#1) and (#2), when the wheel is already off-centre but the bike continues in a straight line, the front wheel attempts to "correct" its off-centre problem. It swings the other way. However, due to the high speed environment, it swings the other way too fast and now it's off centre again but pointing in the opposite direction.

The swinging action then repeats until it lessens and the bike gets stabilised, or it gets out of control. It's like a yo-yo.

How it will get out of control when a tankslap happens is when (and I quote this from sources)

1. You grab a handful of your brakes in an attempt to slow down.

2. You stiffen yourself up on your bike. Meaning to say, not only your body stiffens, you also grab your handlebars tightly when a tankslap begins to happen instead of letting the wobbling die down.

I'm not sure on the ways to avoid it since we riders are always fast and on the move, but from what I was being told is to not throttle up so much at bends/corners.

Small tidbit: when uneven and dirty/rocky roads meet a bike's stiff suspension setup, chances of this happening at high speeds are high.

When it happens, one of the best ways to handle this is to not karang? kabut. Loosen your grip on your handlebars, let the bike go straight, and let the wobbling die down. If you're like me and a corner is coming, no choice but to let it go straight rather than let it spin off out of control.

There's more on how to lessen the severity of tankslapping, read the article above.

Some Physics theories here for ya guys :)

========

Guys, an open-minded poll here...do you think that me talking too much about track riding makes me a braggart? Just a passing food-for-thought question here...
