Suzuki Impulse GSX 400

For mamat and others interested in this bike.

This bike started way back in 1980s. The latest model is ard 2001

http://www.suzukicycles.org/photos/suzuki-history/1997/1997_GSX400_Impulse_250.jpg

Specs can be found below.

http://www.suzukicycles.org/GSX-series/GSX400-Impulse.shtml

This bike is very similar to the Honda Super 4 ver S.

Tank:16L, between 23km-25km per lite.

Top speed:Specs stated as 200km/h. Some tried it before(read on net). I only tried 145km on ecp. Rpm was around 8800. Normal cruise at 100km/h, rpm is at 5500.

Maintainance wise, 3L of oil, one oil filter, and 4 spark plugs. Does not know any quirks of this bike yet...

I was thinking of getting a Super 4 also but...

Compared to Super4,

1)Retro look, I like...

2)Cheaper, Paid $3.6k(bike only, 1996 model. Registered in 1998, so is 5 years old)

Compared to $4k-$5k for a ver S. or >$7k for vtec1.

3)Servicing is cheaper. $35 for carbs and tuning at Guan Hoe, another $10 for valve checking. Total is $45. Spark plugs and oil can change urself.

S4 is $60 for carbs cleaning, tuning is another $35(not sure)?. Then valve checking? Another $100(not sure)???

Bottomline, loved it for the looks. Save more $ for a class 2 bike.

  • 1 year later...

Wow.. din expect my thread to surface after so long..

The bike shop i got from still has impulse.

If u wan, pm me ur contact and name. I check for u.

Anyway, jus some updates. The engine is different from bandit. It is the smaller version of Bandit1200. I would say more similar to sportsbike GSX400.

Top speed is 180km/h. Bike is quite reliable, been to Phuket and back. Only thing to take note is wear and tear parts.

check new link... in the first post.

Bike not popular, cos most youngsters dun like retro look.

Normally this is an uncle's bike.

Morever, now no more new bikes.

But then, its cheap, reliable and does its job well.

Honestly, think S4 is overrated and the high insurance is infact, paying for someone else's mistake...

No offence to anyone... Each to his own.

how come this bike is not popular in the 2A class?

many ppl dun like bikes that are too old... cos they think the bike will surely give them hell lots of problem... i also riding a 95 gsxr.... now still serving me fine... those things that need replacement are usually wear and tear parts..

wow there are so few Impulse riders around?

personal tots, didn't really like the look of it at first, but eventually it won me over with it's "retro-ness". I didn't use to like squarish looking bikes, but somehow this one's a little different. :) it will grow on you.

and I agree on the part about no point paying for other ppl's mistakes for insurance.. ;)
