Hi guys,

I have collected my ride and it's been exhilarating so far! The big V-twins just get my juices flowing. Hope to learn more abt the VStrom from the folks here. Coming to work though, I find it hard to adjust to being less able to squeeze during the morning peak hours on the ECP!

Understand your pain. Thats why I leave the Strom at home everyday and ride my CG125 to work. I believe my CTE in the morning is just as bad as your ECP towards town.

Give 100% of yourself......................10% of the time!!

leave half an hour earlier before the peak and you will enjoy the road and the ride. :bounce:

the bike can get really hot when squeezing thru traffics coz a lot of accelerating and deccelerating...

welcome to da club.... -_-...... this is R & R thread..... .SUper relax one la...

Hi Anodise,

How you doing? Need your opinion. I'm contemplating getting back into riding and mulling over Vstrom650/1000, TDM850/900 or Versys.

Which bike would you recommend if I prefer something that:

a. Cruises at 200km/h++

b. High Touring Windscreen

c. Good ergonomics, Comfortable sitting position for rider/pillion

d. Ample choices for Luggage? (I still have my BB wingrack)

e. Low Insurance? >35

f. Historical Electrical Issues (Coil/Rectifier/Ignition etc)

f. Availability/Affordability of Parts?

g. Good Fuel Consumption (better than BB?)

Thankz :cheeky:

none of the bikes mentioned can cruise at 200km/h comfortably.....

closest is VStrom 1000....can do 200km/h ...

Bro read tis===>

a. Cruises at 200km/h++

==Dual purpose can do 200km/h++ for 1000cc but DEFINITELY NOT CRUISING.. its consider straining. Cruising at 140-160

b. High Touring Windscreen

==No Problem

c. Good ergonomics, Comfortable sitting position for rider/pillion

Upright.. Confirm Ok. Handle bar can be raised further... for ur height

d. Ample choices for Luggage? (I still have my BB wingrack)

==Wingrack. Nvr really seen those on dual purpose. But think still can make it. Most pp using Tubular side rack from H & B or Givi

e. Low Insurance? >35

== right now insurance ALL UPS 20% more..... want cheap insurance. Get anythign below 1000cc....

f. Historical Electrical Issues (Coil/Rectifier/Ignition etc)

== for Vstrom.. so far so good leh, Others i dono liao

f. Availability/Affordability of Parts?

== for 650 is parallel import but shares quite a number of common parts with SV650 so ok leh...also parts with 1000 as well. So far not much issue

those old birds riding 650 may give some comments? Cstay?

g. Good Fuel Consumption (better than BB?)

== local riding.. .definitely better then BB

( 650 for 22-24km/L 04-06 models 07 onwards can hit 25km/L above).

(1000 for 19km/L) For more details you can call up Vincent aka davinchee for more details...cos he gotten himself a NEW ONE)

ON NSHW, think cannot compare to BB la...... unless u tell me everyday u go touring .. and always wack 200++.... hahaha

the wee starts everything time you turn on the key. so far, not a single part i have to change to get it going.

however, it can cost you a bomb from dressing up your vstrom with plenty of accessories from the internet.

the ride is addictive. :angel:

THanks guys for you replies.

I just occasionally need to get up to 200++ and I intend to do some off-road, hence considering these hybrids.

hey paul, nice to hear from you. i'm riding the dl650 too. so far no complains and have been very happy with the fc. 20- 23km/L for my fat as$ riding from bt batok to tuas. handles well in heavy traffic, very comfortable to ride daily, nice posture. just rode to cameron and back with my wife, able to cruise to 160km with a box behind. wife says the seat is comfy while i got a sore butt after riding 80 over kms due to my weight. overall i think it's still good. starts everytime at first push of the button.

only thing i wonder why my oil cooler is leaking oil at one of the bolts. no big issue. practical bike to own.

if you really need to go over 200km, get the 1k model.:angel:

Hi Ano,

Appreciate the detailed reply, Thanks alot :)

I'm amazed at the fuel consumption, is the Vstrom on CNG? I guess the Vtwin limits the high-end. Any idea what's the top speed on a stock Vstrom 1000? You guys go trailing?

It's good to be back, no more Taiwan for me, although I do miss the mei meis there :cheeky: Good luck with the exams!

Hi Smokin,

Good to hear from you too! Wah everywhere i look everyone also on VStrom. Does the "V" in Moto-V stand for Vstrom? My wife is worried the exhaust might burn her. Any complaints ?

no worries on the exhaust, there's also a plastic shield.

the cameron ride was my wife's first long ride and there were zero complains from her. those on hornets kept complaining..LOL.

the engine guard (some calls crash bar) is below the fairing. the top part of the engine guard does protect the fairing when you drop the bike. :thumb:
