Hi Anodise,

How you doing? Need your opinion. I'm contemplating getting back into riding and mulling over Vstrom650/1000, TDM850/900 or Versys.

Which bike would you recommend if I prefer something that:

a. Cruises at 200km/h++

b. High Touring Windscreen

c. Good ergonomics, Comfortable sitting position for rider/pillion

d. Ample choices for Luggage? (I still have my BB wingrack)

e. Low Insurance? >35

f. Historical Electrical Issues (Coil/Rectifier/Ignition etc)

f. Availability/Affordability of Parts?

g. Good Fuel Consumption (better than BB?)

Thankz :cheeky:

Hey Paul, welcome back to riding in advance.

Point A, ave 160km/h for single rider on my 650, 180km/h for 1k should be fine. Occasionally full throttle 180-190km/h.

Point B, have options to get aftermarket like Givi or Power Bronze OR looking at Smoking (Roger) Madstad Bracket to raise/ tilt angle for the stock screen.

Point C, proven to and fro 5 nations in 2 weeks. NO WORRIES !!

Point D, time to upgrade to HnB liao, boost the economy leh ... kekeke.

Point E, ins is going up ... no matter wat age grp u are on.

Point F, std parts are easily avaliable.

Point G, I' m loving it ave 25km/Litre. 70% City - 30% Highway.

BTW, I am a ex-hornet rider to a Wee Strom rider now, farkles on mate.:thumb:

Hope to see u on a Vstrom soon ...

Hi Smokin,

Thanks, I think wife's comfort level very important. She dun enjoy, we can't enjoy :cheeky:

Hi Ano,

If my wife gets an account, let's censor the portion abt mei meis ok?

Long time never talk to Alvin liao. Does he sell parts for Vstrom? More importantly got discount? hee hee

There's been some forex projections that the yen will be on the downtrend till Q3 2009. I'm hoping the price for vstroms/TDMs will slide. Otherwise will shop for a 2nd hand one. Anyone u know selling one?

So for sure the Vstrom can go past 200++ ? Sometimes itchy really need to whack, paiseh :shy:

Interesting questions, my inputs.

a. All the above bikes you are looking are definately not suitable for you to CRUISE at 200km/h++. Yes you can hit over 200km/h mark with most DP bikes, but what the point? Unstable due to it higher CG and aerodynamic issue. A comfortable cruising speed should be 140-160km/h.

I ridden a BB before, you got expect a huge decrease in power for DP bikes. But then, Why are you looking at these DP bikes in the first place? Speed?

C. Vstrom is comfortable both for rider and pillion. BUT definately not as comfortable compared to touring bike like FJR, STX etc. Dual-Purpose as the name suggest. If FJR comfort level is a 10, Vstrom a 8.

If you still into speeds, look at non-dp bikes.

Hi Ano,

Yep, still driving the kelisa. If I'm around in Town, I'll go servicing in JB with eien :) Will try to make it down for a meetup.

Hi luN,

I wanna go off road once in a while, hence the DP. Then there's the occasional need to relive the BB days by going >200

Hi gabng,

Your Vstrom looks good in Black. How does the vstrom fair when ridden in rocky+muddy tracks similar to those leading to Orang Asli or Cheese Crab at Pasir Gudang ? Do u guys just plough right thru?

I had just been to Orang asli on my Vee couple of weeks back . well its just a short run , cant really test and enjoy the offroad capabilities of vstrom. suggest u go for longer trail e.g endau rompin.

Hi bro sambora67, a used 650 is surely a rare sight in bike shops due to unwillingness of the owners to sell. Will keep a lookout for u if come across 1.

Fastest would be Haya no doubt. But if u still wanna tour comfortably with proper luggage storage, then anything between the other 2.
