Remove Rust

My fork has some rust spots here and there,

Anyone has any idea how to get rid of? and protection?

coke and aluminium foil. pour the coke on the rusted parts n use the bck of the foil to rub it. cheap n yet it works

Rust on the fork? I assume it is rust forming on the chrome area? Where there is a chance it will go pass the oil seal?

 

If you intend to keep the bike for long, either you do not compress the rusted part till where the oil seal is else your oil seal will give way as a matter of time

Servicing a small bike's fork is usually considered expensive because the cost of buying a new set if about the same

Even if you manage to remove the rust, it will come back because the chrome is no longer there

 

If you manage to remove it and the chrome is still there, it is not rust to begin with but just dirt accumulated

 

NEVER, NEVER, use any form of abrasive material on the chromed parts!

I've read somewhere that you should not use foil for chrome parts. What's recommended to use?

Apply coke and rub with aluminium foil. I do it

When it comes to rust I usually let the professionals handle it. I really don't mind the extra cost as long as it keeps my bike running smooth.
