i realised that there are alot of unanswered questions in this thread. just thought it would be good to clarify some stuff.

1. different inspection centres and different inspectors have different set of requirements for the vehicles they check

2. there are certain mods which the authorities did not state upright whether they are allowed or not allowed. in such cases, it is purely up to the discretion of the inspector to decide whether or not to pass or fail you for those mods. example: dinosaur's extended forks. in general, if u dont make the mods look ultra obvious, chances are that they can be overlooked by the inspectors.

besides checking for illegal modifications, the purpose of the inspection is to ensure that the vehicles are road worthy. as far as i know, rusty components may not exactly be capable of rendering a vehicle becoming road unworthy. however, if rust eventually evolve to form corrosion (& result in malfunctioning of parts), then that might become a cause for concern.

with the limited knowledge i have, here are my personal opinions of the respective mods:

flush-mount signal lamps: illegal (unless they come as stock) but up to inspector's discretion.

superwhite headlight bulbs: illegal unless they produce purely only white beam. (there are aftermarket bulbs which besides giving off white color, also emits greenish or bluish or purplish kind of colors) brands like philips diamond vision are known to be approved.

stebel magnum 2 electromagnetic horns: i've personally passed the inspection at STA Sin Ming with the horn. however, pls note that i only fixed 1 out of the 2 horns that came in the package. end of it, pass or fail is still up to inspector's discretion

hope this helps

If im using a aftermarket rearsets with no brake switch.. will they check?

yes

they will check

juz get the switch fixed up (via cable ties or some other materials)

its not only for purpose of clearing inspection, but more for yr own safety on the road

Wats up dude, I,m going for inspection, and, my chain is so dried up and my tyres and thinning.. definitely less than 6 mm depth. U think they bother?

as long as the tyres are not close to balding i guess they r passable

as for how well-lubricated or poorly maintained yr chain is...it doesnt matter to them

once again, having a poorly maintained chain may result in chain snap which at the end of the day, causes inconvenience/safety hazard to yr own self

Any idea which inspection centre is the best and most 'relaxed' one?

And another question, if my road tax expires on the 14 of April, and I do the inspection one week before, does that mean I cannot renew for one year road tax?

Because the insurance also needs to match the road tax expiry date, so just wondering if there's a need to 'match' the inspection cert to cover for 1 year exactly... :sian:

As far as I know, for my last inspection at Tuas, they inserted a microphone into my exhaust pipe...

My Yoshi passed. I also knew that it wasn't that loud (after hearing other fellow Yoshi pipes)

Good luck.

1st question: You've got PM.

2nd question: First and foremost, don't worry about the inspection or its associated certificate that's produced with it. It's merely a paper that lets you renew the road tax -- if LTA says so because you've met their criteria (as mentioned below). Moreover, inspection is done at your own convenience within that 1 year window, whereas road tax is date-stamped by LTA and cannot be changed.

My bike had your problem as well: The cutoff due dates for road tax and insurance didn't match as well. I went for the half-yearly road-tax coverage. Nearing that very day of the deadline, I was made known by the LTA officer that since I went for the half-yearly coverage and that I've paid for the first-half, the renewal for the second-half needed to come with LTA's mandatory once-a-year inspection (and thus, the insp. certificate).

I was also made known of the problematic date difference: My road tax deadline -- if I were to renew half-yearly, that is -- was very offset from my insurance deadline. If I were to renew, road tax coverage would start from October 2006 to February 2007, but my insurance's deadline was on April 2007. That's 2 months wastage.

I went to my insurance company, told them that "wastage" problem, and I had my insurance extended for 2 months (paid for that) and road-tax done on the spot (with the insp. certificate, of course).

Don't forget to ask the shop to send your pipe for mandatory LTA inspection. You need to have a pipe inspection cert as well.
