I see that most people here use the 60csx or the 76csx.

What about the zumo? Does anyone have that?

I have a nuvi for my car, and was thinking of getting a zumo for my bike, since the interface looks similar.

One of the vara bros has the Zumo 550. It's basically a Nuvi 360 in a ruggedised form, it costs a whopping $1500 but is worth every cent of it. It comes complete with mounting kit for both car and bike. The mounting kit comes like a docking system which powers the GPS from the bike battery but it doesn't charge the internal battery, as you would need another power line to do that.

That's right. Zumo don't have batteries option, hence you would need to connect to the vehicle batter compartment.

To me, this is very inconvenient... :)

Oh I see. Thanks for the feedback, guys!

undead, I think the zumo does have batteries - at least according to the Garmin website.

I think what Demon means is that the battery just doesn't charge when it's plugged into the bike. This is unlike the nuvi, which charges the battery when you plug it into the cigarette lighter.

Zumo has internal batteries, but the docking system only powers the GPS. There is another point on the Zumo which is the mini-usb connection type (similar to Nuvi). So to keep the internal battery charged, you would need the "cigarette lighter" type of solution.

Thanks for the clarification....:)

But the 4hrs of usage on batteries is kind of short for a long trip (i.e. MY). don't you think so? :sian:

The Pros are the screen definitely. Huge screen with big buttons easily assessable for bikers with gloves. The BIG CONS is the Cost.. :( (double the price!)

Probably those that have deep pockets will choose this.....o_O

Zumo 550 vs 60CSX

Shop staff say Zumo 550 is a navigator whilst 60Csx is a tracker. That means Zumo has no data logger to let you review your trips unlike 60csx. So if you go off road into kampung track and want to trace our path then 60csx will be useful. Zumo has MP3 and voice navigator via bluetooth on your headset (separately purchased - eg see thread on bluetooth headset) to guide you to your destination while 60csx has none (only beep sound n visual que at waypoints mark). 60csx has a belt clip and optional bike mount and is waterproof like the zumo.

So if you do alot of off road, hiking off trails into jungle or ulu ulu areas n need to retrace yr steps then it seems like 60 Csx is the one u shud get n it is less costly

Zumo is made for touring trips and assume you stay on mapped route and that the 4 hours battery life is to be supplemented with a bike power supply - btw it comes with accessory cable to tap power from battery in addition to wall charger.

Personally the 60csx is a better value choice if you forgo the bluetooth and MP3 features.

Hi Xtr33m3, I think the zumo does keep track of where you went, at least according to this thread.

I do agree that the 60csx seems like a better deal. But the screen on the zumo looks so much better!

if u use mainly for on-road and no needs of keeping track log, Nuvi/Zumo will be a better choice, bigger screen, 3D view, etc...

You can get a good mounting for Garmin set from "Touratech".

Try their web site at

http://www.touratech.de

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

Sorry ,maybe i shud have said zumo does not need to have data logger to save triips like on the 60csx

60csx is a better value solution if common sense prevails - especially if u r not going to travel alot and the novelty fad wears off

For those who want to know what is data logger on 60csx mean - read this link

Actually, I think the zumo does log tracks.

At least according to this thread.

The Zumo shines in its' data management. The track log supports 10,000 track points (drop rate and interval are not adjustable) and it automatically creates a track file in a GPX file stored on the units' internal memory for each day. The routes are also stored in this GPX file, along with your waypoints, so it's very easy to manage your data in Mapsource. If you do a good job managing your track log (clearing it before the start of a specific ride, for example) you can easily convert the track file to a route, right on the unit by just pressing the button.

I own the zumo400 and it does have a log tracks.

Well, this is my first GPS so i cannot compare with other units. :p

Touratech mounts cost more than a Ram-Mount which they are using actually

Buy Ram Mount directly from them it's definitely cheaper & the same products actually

These GPSs are already ruggedised by design, they definitely can survive without any fancy Touratech mount. I have been using my Garmin Legend C secured with only 3M Dual Lock on a aluminium flat bar, riding on off-road, and it worked without a hitch.

Of course, my DIY mount wouldn't reflect well on the rider if it's on a BMW GS Adventure. Anything but a Touratech mount would be a mismatch.

i like the key lock mechanism of the touratech. Quite useful in moments when need to walk away for a while, eg. go to petrol kiosk cashier, with the gps still secured to the bike.

I understand this GPS holder alone already cost you $200 over dollars right?:giddy:

Ram mount do have rubber dampings on their joints to absorb the vibration of the road

Best of all it can be attached with many other things like video cam at whatever angles you want it to be:thumb:

safety wise there is a knob for you to lock your Ram-Mount together with your GPS

You have an option to have a quick release system witch snap in & out of your Ram-Mount in seconds
