this was 4yrs ago on my O2.

got the relevant files into the folder but somehow couldnt get garmin to load the maps. I tried maps of spore, msia, thai, aust.....etc...

Garmin maps are proprietary so O2 wouldn't be able to read garmin maps.

was looking at the zumo 550....very nice....very pricey......$950??

I am holding another forumer's Zumo 550 now. It was the King of Automotive GPS until the arrival of Nuvi 500.

Compare the Nuvi500 with Zumo550, the former is slim, and more affordable. The Nuvi500 is even designed to be immersed in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes, and it is the only model in the Nuvi, or Zumo series that has removable battery.

I was using an o2 with a garmin gps software. Malsing maps dont work this way?:faint: And to think I faithfully followed the instructions from the site till 4am in the morning, 2hrs before my flight.......

its strange howcome I cant find the 500 on the page but the 550.

Anyway, they look like the same models.

Ok, the retailer for garmin in spore is currently Eastgear?

Recommended place to make a purchase or alternatives at Sim Lim?

The Nuvi 500 is just above the Nuvi 550.

They are identical set, the difference is in the pre-loaded map.

To my knowledge, none of the local retailers are stocking up the Nuvi 500. Usually, Perfect Watch at SLS will be the first to bring in the latest models. Another popular local online retailer is http://www.coolasia.net.

Please do not take the above as my recommendation as there will always be trade-off between price, and warranty, against service, and product knowledge.

The 3M Dual Lock velcro is much stronger and durable than the cloth type. Two strips of the Dual Lock is only $3.80 at Mustafa, some DIY hardware shops at selling at $4.20.

I fabricated a holder with acrylic sheet (perspex sheet), so it grips onto the eTrex.

One for eTrex, one for Nuvi - Front side

think the velcro is fine for city riding

but touring in msia when speeds exceed 200 and with the constant vibration for hours, gps might just take offfffffffff...............

ram mount it!! better to spend abit than to lose the whole gps i say? no?

but velcro is good for easy on/off short distance routes.........

Eh why all of you do such complicated stuff one ah?

Me just buy one of those suction mount (those that you see everywhere in cars) and mount it on the instrument panel (speedo) can liao no problem at all. You pull with both hands also cannot remove it one. Place on panel. click suction. done. And only $12.

Yup the phone is $48 with a 2 yrs normal contract.

Mapking don't need to access internet. The map is stored on the MicroSD space.

Google Maps however require access to internet if you don't download the entire SG map. But I can't use up the 50GB of data access I have on my Singnet Broadband on Mobile plan anyway.

Can someone pls enlighten me if there are any service charges for accessing GPS (smtg like GPRS)? For example, after turning on the GPS device and it should obtain its current location every now and then from the satellite right???

Is this service free? Sorry for the noobie qn as i hve not used a GPS device before and could not find the ans in the thread....

sorry bro, i have question..

1) if mount the suction on your speedo, then does it mean that i canot see my KMH anymore?

2) As what you said the suction cannot remove after mount on it.. but how about the GPS device or phone GPS? strong enough and will not drop when we riding?

If you are happy with the Jan 2008 version  , then no further actions required.

Just go register, it won't take you more than 5mins, and cost you less than one good dinner at Botak Jones. The dinner is not for MSM, but for me
