I've tried browsing thru malsing maps but the more i see,the more blur i get..

can any old bird here wif GPS can help? mine does not come with Memory card instead to be installed directly in the unit itself. GarminQuest..

There a few ways to upload the maps to your device.

 

The official method is to upload the maps from Mapsource. However you will not be able to do that because the latest free map is v2.15 which comes only in GMAPSUPP.IMG format, and not as a Mapsource Installer.

 

So you would need use third party software such as SENDMAP to transfer GMAPSUPP.IMG into your GPS.

1. I have seen a portable battery source sold on the net for this device.. will check the link and get back to you...

2. I guess all Garmin GPS here in Singapore are usually send to Taiwan for servicing... you will have to register the product online though...

i now have the mapsouce installer from him.so still playing ard wif it.

i have downloaded the V2.15 sing/msia map provided at the site so far ok lah no issues.jz that the latest ones are V2.30 which is really alot difference.

yeah pls do bro..its kinda pain in the neck if our GPS is only charged via ciggy socket esp like my Quest. wat if i need to use the GPS while walking and it died on me? :giddy:

 

having both portable batt and ciggy charger are the best for our GPS for e.g the E-trex or the HCX version. PLS do inform us if u know where to get lobang for additional portable batt for GPS k.

just a question bro,the V1.22 maps as per link you've shown yes,have the updated M'sia maps..but for S'pore its written as V1.02 lah. isn't it a very older version than the current download from malsing s'pore map V2.15?

Personally,i feel a GPS device by itself is the best way..coz dats wat the machine suppose to do rite. if using hp,if hang ur gps also hang.

also not waterproof lah using hp unless u wanna cover it up with plastic or sumting.

 

best get a gps meant for motorcycle use coz it gives u the function and comfort (easier to press buttons wif gloves). and best of all its WATERPROOF!!

if got $$$ get a touch screen one lah,even better

The map version of MSM, and MFM are run independently.

 

Don't be too bother about the version "MFM Singapore Ver 1.02".

 

The MFM maps have improved by leaps and bound within a very short time. One big improvement of MFM v1.22 over MSM v2.30 is that there are more details of HDB blocks, such as Block number, footprint, and street. See below for example

A GPS is a GPS, however a good motorbike GPS should have at least these qualities :

- if you ride with gloves, can you still operate the functions

- Is the screen readable under strong sunlight

- is it rugged enough to be exposed to the rain, dust, and sun for a long period

i dun know for the V2.30 maps coz its the latest one so far..

2. New roads(since s'pore keep doing road diversions)

I did some checking for you. Your garmin quest can only load one map file at a time. One way is to, from Mapsource, and select the appropriate map tiles from MSM, and MFM and transfer into the device. However, I also read that there are some routing problems in some areas.

I think the easiest way is to get unlock code for the MSM v2.30.
