Got this exact cable fom Sim Lim Square Perfect watch cost abot $50++

dude, one end of the cable is a cig socket and the other a mini usb plug for the gps?

I tried searching for it on garmin site but no luck.

how would u attach it to your bike yet keep it waterproof?

This power cable which Nineh was referring is only for the 60, and 76CSx. This is a 4 pin connector which plugs into the Auxiliary power port on the underside of the device. This connection provides both power and NMEA signal output. NMEA signal is a standard signal protocol commonly adopted in the marine electronics.

The connector is a rubber boot when connected to the GPS will fit snugly thus making it water tight.

A causal 60, and 76CSx owner would normally use a USB cable for axillary power. However for the usb to be connected, the rubber protection flap would need to be opened thus compromising the water tight integrity of the device.

ah! the guru enlightens once again!

are there pwr cables for nuvis' also??

if there arent any, then its prob just taking the normal cig charger and chopping one end off to attach to the bike's batt?

Quick question for the experts here... I'm getting a Vespa LX150, and was thinking of getting a GPS for it too. Any idea if the RAM Mount can be fixed on the LX150 without drilling any holes on the scooter? Where will it be fixed to?

Every Nuvi comes standard with a original Garmin power cable for plugging into standard car 12vdc ciggy type power outlet.

You can also use a regular USB cable to power up your Nuvi, the source of power can be from standard computer USB ports or a 230VAC wall plug with usb port.

The catch here is that if you using a non-garmin power cable on your Nuvi, it will not go into NAVIGATION mode, ie, it will charge the internal battery but you cannot use it for normal operation.

However, there is a way to trick the Nuvi in accepting a non-Garmin power cable so that you can still use the GPS while charging it.

That's the proper way. Rig a ciggy type power outlet on your bike, and use the original Garmin power cable, that's the best.

However for people who do aggressive off-road riding, the plug will soon be dislodged from the power socket from the pounding. Tarmac riding, no probem.

taking a look at the LX150's front panel, seems the only strong point to mount a ball based is at the base of side mirror. can consider something like this... RAM-B-272U or 238U

http://www.ram-mount.com/Portals/0/PartImages/RAMB272U.JPG or http://www.ram-mount.com/Portals/0/PartImages/RAMB252U.JPG

for my scooter (no exposed handlebar), apart from having the RAM-B-3096U, i've improvised a secondary base using a RAM-B-238U diamond plate

I'm sure I have posted this trick here before.

Anyway, this is how it works.

Using a generic USB cable, when plug connected, your nuvi will display "GARMIN" in the middle of the screen.

Unplug the connection, and the Nuvi will immediately reboot and commence the startup sequence into the NAVIGATION mode.

Here is the trick, once the connection is unplugged, wait for the nuvi to reboot, as soon as the "pic of a PC connected to a nuvi" disappears, immediately reconnect the USB cable.

The nuvi will continue to reboot and go into NAVIGATION mode.

For the eTrex, and GPSMAP series, there is no difference to the device if a non-Garmin USB cable is connected.

My friend just got a Nuvi550 from East gear and comes with a 2gb default Malsing maps. He removed the mini SD card and load in his own SD card with maps but can't seems to load the maps from his card. Does anybody here done this before? Cos he does not like the Malsing maps.

My eTrex Legend, with no batteries, can be powered up by external power so I believe the Oregon should do likewise.

Go to MAP INFO, and see what are the maps that have been installed in the device ie, both in the internal memory, and in the SD card.

Next, make sure the map(s) you want the device to display is checked.

Cos he does not like the Malsing maps.

Anyway, what other map can rival the latest MSM maps ?

to add to guru's tip.

im using the 205W and when the USB cable is plugged in, I get a pic of a PC and a green loading status bar.

u got to wait till the status bar is complete, then plug out and let the gps load the maps then plug the cable back in.

it doesnt work if i unplug straight away when the pc pic appears.

Thanks bro. Ever since I'm using the MSM maps there's no turning back.

i also bought a nuvi 550 from eastgear, came with a 2gb mSD with MSM but i'm now using MFM. no harm giving it a try coz its free (unlike the jerome versions). you'll find some differences, wouldn't say which is better... you should try n decide for yourselves :p

btw, my next move is to backup the preloaded US maps in the ROM and put MSM/MFM in it so that i can have thailand map in the mSD :thumb:
