if you totally wanna degrease it then i think petrol also can. But its highly flamable. I would suggest you use GT85 for most ppl have already used it to just clean the chain.

If you're on O or X-ring chains, NEVER EVER use petrol or highly volatile solvents.

i find CHain very fast started to get long :(... Headache AH.........

do u like to make sudden acceleration often?? will affect the wear and tear of the pins due to increase shear force..

do u lub yr chain often and clean the chain occansionally? to reduce the shear force and increase the life span of the pins..

is the sprockets wear off?? will increase the wear of chain too..

:)

Only use kerosene to clean chain...Do not use diesel, petrol, benzene cos these will eat up your O rings and X rings. Its stated on the back of DID chain box that only use kerosene to clean.

If commercially available products, can use specially made chain cleaner solvents from Putoline, Maxima and stuffs..WD40 can also use but not sure if it affects your chain but its quite gentle..

If use other degreaser..not advisable but once used must flush with a lot of water..

Reason??? I need to knw thanks

Highly volatile solvents make awesome degreasing and cleaning solvents (e.g. petrol, ketones, acetates, alcohols and so forth)

Low volatile solvents does an equally good job, but they are retardants i.e. won't evaporate THAT quickly (diesel, kerosene, turpentine, aromatics) and thus are "milder" to some properties which can't take high volatility which can even be corrosive and allows proper good time in cleaning up of the solvents themselves first (via detergants or other neutralizing agents)

Your X/O-Rings comes with grease cavities in the rollers, you do not want this to disappear as these are what that makes your X/O-Rings work.

Petrol will degrease this in quick time.

Further, the very high-flammable property of petrol makes it even unsafe.

While you're scrubbing scrubbing, have a good smoke while at that, unknowingly - POOF!

Hmmm ok thanks. But i mean after you clean the chain with the petrol then there after you wash the chain with soap then apply chain lube to it again is it ok? Or is it still not advisable?

No, it is still not allright to do that.

By the time you're about to wash with soap, the grease will be long gone, leaving a very 'cleaned' chain, inclusive of its rollers. I reiterate, highly volatile solvents are absolutely good and swift degreasers, they take everything in their way.

it depends on ur riding style also, and how often u lube ur chain too.

If you're on O or X-ring chains, NEVER EVER use petrol or highly volatile solvents.

mine is just a normal chain..

anyway, they say lube it after pre-heating the chain. how about cleaning?

do i ride around then clean my chain, then ride around again before applying chain wax/lube?

lamak. yest i ride-clean-lube. but today my ride was super smooth.

does not pre-heating then lubing affect anything bad?

I think pre heating then lubing is to make your lube less splattery for your next ride. I always practise that. Normal i wash then lube without pre heating there will be splatters.
