thanks shini. i was told the first stage not to go more than 5krpm. anyway, did you do your bike servicing at hong leong yamaha or the shop you bought your bike? i saw in the yamaha warranty, it stated first servicing would be 1k km.

i live in thomson area. are you working or studying? can sms me at 98778149.

Does anyone know what are the accessories that can be added to XJR? Btw, for new owners, i was told by Yamaha service personnel that running in procedure for the 1st 1000KM is to ride not more than 5RPM. :bounce:

i am really considering between a XJR n a spec 2. i need help. pls pls pls tell me again the good points of the bike against spec2. i also intend to ride the bike for more than 3 yrs so i don;t think i'll haf problems with depreceation.

then again, other than parts availability, can i also know the good points of spec 2 that XJR loses out to? fuel consumption? handling? anything? anyone? pls?

Chuinjie,

I'm not sure abt what is the specialty on a Spec 2 but i can tell you that if you compare it with spec 1, i'll advise you to take the XJR. Why? because i used to ride a spec 1 and i swooped it with XJR just 3 weeks ago.

The difference that XJR has as compared to Spec 1

1. Petrol Gauge - to me the manual gauge is a better indicator than the digital gauge that spec 1 had. with spec 1 i often get confused whether or not the meter was correct. at one time, it was only 270km and the digital meter start to move left and right. however at another occassion, it did not move that way until 300 odd km. the worst thing is when the meter is error and for all you know you ran out of petrol. but with xjr, you'll always feel secure because you know exactly how much more you can go.

2. manual reserve switch - based on the above, even if the meter spoilt, you won't have to push your bike until your 3litre reserve finished. but you'll be sweating if you're on spec 1.

3. larger tank - this will be useful if you don't wish to go in JB that often. It has 2 litre extra than spec 1

4. ohlin shock & brembo Brakes - from what i know, these two are better than showa & nissin

5. larger built in size

6. Petrol consumption - A little higher than spec 1

7. Seating - More comfy than spec 1

8. Signal Light - different than spec 1. for spec 1, whether you turn left or right, the other bulb will still lit up. but for xjr, if you signal left, your right signal bulb will turn off.

9. Engine Temperature - Better than spec 1. It is oil cooled and will not have future pump blockage problem like spec 1

10. Performance - if you are looking for sports bike alike, suggest you go for spec 1.

11. Availability of parts - xjr being new in the market, most of the parts found in the market are likely to be original yamaha parts. hence it will cost more compare to the compartible for spec 1. but this will not be a concern after sometime.

12. Storage under seat - spec 1 will take it as it has more storage space under the seat than xjr.

Hope the above will help you in understanding better of xjr.

cheers :bounce: :cheer:

during my class 2a was using this bike at cdc. i was complaining to instructor that bike very heavy, and he say super4 much more heavier. the looks very chio, taillight like R1. a lot of pple complaing saying that throttle response quite sensitive so a bit diff to do courses. but i must say acceration quite good. riding position wise...personally i dun like it cos the handle bar to high for me( used to spotbike position mah :D ). neway if u r short arnd 1.6m, may hav problems cos sum of my frens tip toe a bit.

the above r just opinions of a newbie 2a rider so sum of u may not agree but dun flame me lah... :D :D

Send me a sign, wanna leave it all behind

eh.... the way u all say abt the bike liike spec 1 better leh... very tough decision...

if i want:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

higher trade in value = spec 2

sportier type = spec 2

cheaper parts = spec 2

better fuel consumption = spec 2 ( hear frm fren )

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

brembo brakes = xjr

ohlins shocks = xjr

cheaper price = xjr

bigger fuel tank = xjr

---------------------------------------------------------------------

how? how? how?

Chunjie,

There's always pro and cons when you buy a bike. No matter what brand and type, there are bound to have it. Just go with what you love to ride. Both are great bikes. Just different in some aspect.

Think carefully before you buy. Anyway, since you would be riding for at least 3 yrs, don't worri abt the resale value. XJR just came into the market, for all you know things may turn the other way where XJR ended with higher resale value than spec 2?

Happy hunting

cheers

yeah new machine. Excel is a yamaha agent. Best to ask them whether it is otr or still must include insurance, road tax and all that crap. Be careful of any hidden costs or loopholes.

Heard from some ppl around 12k go valve clearance and some belt or chain in the engine have to change. Wonder is it true. Heard from DE XING in Batok. Doubt him coz he himself not selling a XJR so he play the condem game.

eh in fact quite true

i think the timing chain got loose or something also

i too heard from de xing telling me must do vavle clearance at 10k

im reaching 10k soon and the top end performance of the bike has drop
