Manucho can play for MU already? He was shipped to some club to get EU passport last season rite?

After Manucho’s memorable display for his native Angola in the 2008 Cup Of Africa Nations, Sir Alex Ferguson could breathe a sigh of relief. He would not have to battle it out with his Premier League counterparts for this young star’s services - he was already a Red.

Born Mateus Alberto Contreiras Goncalves, Manucho, as he is known to his team-mates, signed a three-year deal with United after impressing during a three-week trial in December 2007. Before arriving at Old Trafford, the towering striker was the leading scorer in the Angolan top division - the Girabola - for the previous two seasons, netting 16 goals in 2006/07 and 15 the season before.

His impressive form continued at international level and he played a starring role during Angola's Africa Cup of Nations campaign in January 2008. He opened the scoring in their first game against South Africa and struck another two goals in their 3-1 win over Senegal four days later. He also found the net in the 2-1 defeat to Egypt, firing a 30-yard screamer into the top-left corner. Although the result meant Angola were eliminated from the tournament, Manucho was named in the competition's overall best XI.

On his return to Old Trafford, Manucho's United career was temporarily put on hold when Sir Alex opted to loan him out to Panathinaikos for the remainder of the 2007/08 season, whilst the club applied for a work permit.

The move to Greece proved to be a successful one for Manucho, who gained valuable first team experience in the Greek first division. He scored on his league debut in the 2–0 home win over Larissa and helped Panathinaikos finish the season in third place, handing them a play-off spot for the remaining European places. Manucho scored three goals in the six-game mini tournament helping Panathinaikos top the play-off group to qualify for the second qualifying round of the 2008/09 Champions League.

Manucho’s application for a work permit was finally granted in August and the powerful striker is relishing his opportunity at Old Trafford. "I have been a fan of Manchester United since I was very young and have worked hard to make my dream reality."

Manucho’s playing style has been compared to an early Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and joining Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez and Fraizer Campbell, he will further strengthen United’s attacking options this season.

Actually, I haven't really read or heard much about manucho yet. With our current senior strike force, he'll have to be exceptionally outstanding to get a game...

Now Man Utd only has one out and out striker in Berbatov after selling Saha. Rooney and Tevez are always running deep into the midfield. I think Manucho will feature this season as a substitute or maybe starting line-up if any of the three are injured or suspended.

Sheikh's £500m City dream team

Six of the best football players in the world are all targets of the multi-billionaire Arab sheikhs who have bought Manchester’s “second” club. The Blues have already captured Real Madrid’s Brazilian superstar Robinho for £32.5million. Now consortium frontman Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim says he is willing to pay £134million to wrest Cristiano Ronaldo away from arch-rivals Man United. City’s manager Mark Hughes has also been told he can bid £80million each for AC Milan’s Brazilian hitman Kaka and Barcelona's attacking midfielder Lionel Messi. Liverpool’s Spanish goal machine Fernando Torres and Arsenal playmaker Cesc Fabregas will be chased as soon as soccer’s next transfer window opens in January, with price tags of £70million and £60million respectively. And there will be a renewed bid of £60million for striker Dimitar Berbatov - who only signed for Man United on Monday night.

Real Madrid 'refused Man City bid for Van Nistelrooy'

http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/afp/20080903/capt.cps.nmc60.030908140451.photo00.photo.default-512x362.jpg?x=400&y=282&q=85&sig=LVRQ.3P8TcJ1H38NXBv4Tg--

Real Madrid turned down a "blank cheque" for their Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy from Manchester City after selling their Brazilian forward Robinho to the English side, sports daily Marca reported on Wednesday.

Manchester City and its new owner, billionaire Arab businessman Sulaiman Al-Fahim of the UAE, offered an "out of the ordinary" sum for the 32-year-old after sealing their purchase of Robinho on Monday for 42 million euros (61 million dollars), it said.

Al-Fahim, who wants to turn Manchester City into the biggest football club in the world, said on Tuesday he was willing to pay 150 million euros for crosstown rival Manchester United's Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid had offered around 85 million euros for Ronaldo over the summer but the 23-year-old player decided to stay with Manchester United for at least another year.

Al-Fahim is also interested in signing FC Barcelona's French international striker Thierry Henry and Valencia's Spanish international striker David Villa, the top-scorer at Euro 2008.

Spanish media reported that he is also interested in Arsenal's Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas and Liverpool's striker Fernando Torres.

Al-Fahim has not disclosed the amount he is paying for City when he made the purchase on Monday on behalf of the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment, of which he is a board member.

The National, an English-language Abu Dhabi daily, earlier on Tuesday estimated the value of the buy-out at 177 million dollars.
