Hey guys,

I am new to the forums, and I hope I posted this in the correct section of the forum. A little about me, I am currently learning to ride here in singpore, and should be finished by the end of the year and get my 2B.

I am currently looking at 2 models to purchase brand new, the 2006 model of the Kawasaki KR150 and the Honda CBR125. I had my heart set on the Kawasaki becasue it looked like a more chunky bike and of course more power, but what set me back was the 2 stroke engine.

How much louder is a 2 stroke engine? How often do you have to change the oil to lubricate the engine? If I were to buy a bike based on 'day to day' running not performance which would you choose out of the two above?

Thank you very much for reading,

Dex

I think you meant CBR150? Its the latest one..The 4 stroke bike..It looks "sporty" but its more of a commuter bike than a sportsbike..You want a real sportsbike get the KR..As for the hassle..If you have interest in something..Definitely the hassle is worth having/doing..Practice good/regular maintenance and it will be hassle free..

Hi,

I am a Krr rider in the past, 4 stroke Bike is confirm much Quiet then a 2 Stroke. When u choose a bike, see wat u wan the bike for, like :

1. Power? Krr (need to top 2T)

2. Milage? CBR150

3. Quiet? CBR150

Actually if u don really drag the Krr, the sound of the exhuast is still acceptable.

Change engine is depends on how much u travel every month.

:goodluck:

Thanks for the replies guys, I think i will look into the CBR150. I hope its not that skinny in real life, becasue I dont want to look like the bike is too small.

Thanks again,

Dex

Sadly to me..After riding arund a friend's CBR 150..What I can say is that it feels rigid and is not as powerful as a KR..It feels weird riding it through bends and straights..Feels like a bicycle with engine..Ahaha..Definitely not the bike I'm looking for..But as the saying goes.."Different folks different strokes"..

hey Dex,

I am in the same predicament as you 3 weeks ago... just got my class 2b and dunno which to choose... cbr and krr...

Actually u really need to go down and take a look at both bikes... physically see and feel...

Then, you need to consider what you really want from the bike...

After a couple of posts here to seek lots of advice, i mentally decided to get the cbr... but i went down to take a look at the 2 bikes and tada... i just had a connection with the krr...

as mentioned by compfused earlier, .."Different folks different strokes"..

no matter what advice you can get, you need to decide for yourself cos you will be the one buying and riding it...

Just like you guys..I was in the same dilemma/predicament a few mths ago..BUt then I had 3 choices..RXZ..CBR150 and KR..It finally came down to CBR150 and the KR..And guess which one I chose? :cheeky:

Anyway happy bike hunting..

Thanks for kind advice guys, I guess I do have to see both bikes in person. Even from the pictures I loved the way Kawasaki looked more so than the Honda.

But this whole thing with the 2 stroke engines? I mean, as I uderstand it, I need to add oil to the fuel to lubricate the engine? does this happen everytime I fuel up the bike? - I dont know, it just seems that 2 stroke seems outdated in some ways, and more of a hassle?

Any views on the day to day running of 2 stroke engines?

Thanks you guys,

dex

no.. u dun hav to add it everytime u pump petrol... u just hav to add it when its empty... for me.. im riding sp.. and i only need to top up the 2t abt once every 1 month+...

outdated? not really true.. just that they hav stop producing 2 stroke models.. due to noise pollution and stuff if im not wrong. motogp 125cc and 250cc are all using 2 stroke bikes as well..

2 stroke bikes hav much more power den 4 stroke..

wad do u mean by day to day running of 2 stroke engines?

What oil you want to add to petrol? 2T you mean? Its not compulsory..Unless you wanna use premix which is better I heard..But the 2T tank is good enough for everyday riding..Just make sure the shop set it up right..Not too much or too little..Use good 2T..At least semi synthetic..Never settle for less..Best is to use fully synthetic of course..

2 stroke is not outdated..There are prolly more 2 stroke bikes out there..Maybe not? I dunno..If really outdated then in an advanced country like Singapore I'm sure they will stop the selling of 2strokes and sell it to third world countries for their usage don't you think so?

As to everyday ride..It feels just like any other bike..Must warm up for a few minutes before you move off just like any other bike..

Hope it helps..

my advice is get a 4 stroke.. 2stroke uses 2t which is a hassle and causes smoke which is a target by tp's also if buying 2nd hand most sports bikes in the 2b range would have had an accident history and would give probs..

ride fast or be last

Y dun u consider a SP if u wanna get a 2 stroke bike.. I ride an SP and it's a pretty gd bike 2 have.. normally ppl pour a bit of 2T into the tank if they wanna drag the bike more.. u dun have 2 do it if u juz wanna rie normally.. The cbr150 is a pretty slim bike and looks kinda small also.. But the problem wif 2 stroke bikes is the kick start part which i find kinda troublesome esp after a heavy rain or when u come down the next morning 2 start or bike.. In tat case a electric start bike is much better

2 strokes can be smokey if you use poor quality 2T. I am using Motul 710, so my KRR doesn't put out too much smoke on the road (only in the morning when I start it; which is normal). KRR also has a kickstart, which is somewhat difficult to get used to, but will become second nature. Like other 2 strokers, KRR is very noisy when you drag it around, but very smooth when you keep the RPM in the lower-mid range. Noise isn't really a problem for me lah, my OGK helmet filtered most of the noise away from my ears, LOL.

Maintainence for 2 strokers isn't that difficult lah. I usually fill 2T once each month. How much of an hassle is that? For sparkplugs, you can have a motodiam change it for you, until you finally learn to do it yourself. Most people recommend changing engine oil every 3000km. Unless you go rounding alot, 3000km is quite long.

KR150 is definitely a powerful bike. Play your cards right and it can even compete against Super4's. Sometimes, it's useful to have power in your hands, to accelerate yourself out of trouble.

KR150's fuel consumption is quite good, but CBR150's better. KR150 is bigger then CBR150, and the occasional strong wind (usually in the Changi area) can actually wobble my bike around . I can't imagine how much it would affect the CBR.

Conclusion, if you just want to travel around, CBR150 is superior. IF you want power and thrill, the ZX-150 is the better choice. Good luck!
