Failing 1st prac is quite common, no ? I Only passed on my 3rd attempt. I feel that 1st prac is the most important. If you can't handle that well, later on its gonna be hard. So don't worry about failing it. If you feel finding the biting point is hard, throttle a bit more than normal.

ya..agree bro..

ii so shiock..

i'm abit "..." at cdc. i can't think of a way to phrase this nicely, so i'll just speak my mind.

currently, i'm stuck at prac1.

my first attempt was spent banging tyres. while most people are quick to say it's a pointless activity, i for one felt that it was genuinely useful. indeed, subsequently, i found myself riding confidently and without doubt (i knew what i had to do when, and how to do it then).

my dissatisfaction stems from ... hope things improve at my next attempt.

when was your prac 1 ?

there was this guy who was still banging tyres after the rest already go inside main circuit last night. was it you? the 6.50pm session ...

it's better to fail alot of times and learning as you go along ..

for me ...

prac 1 - 3 times

prac 2 - 2 times

prac 3 - 5 times (can play bingo sia inside booklet)

prac 4 - 4 times

prac 5 - 2 times

prac 6 - 2 times

prac 7 - 1 time

prac 8 - 1 time

TP - coming soon...

my failing prac 3 and 4 many many times helps though ... make mistakes , learn from what the instructors teach. jiayou !

omg, you guys went into cirucit during your first attempt at prac1? ... my instructor spent the entire time looking after my female classmate who dropped her bike 5times. he barely spoke to me at all. he came over once every 15mins, said "good", and then went back to supervise her. but it's ok, like i said, i found it beneficial.

my dissatisfaction stems from my second attempt. all i did was ride around in circles practising upshifting to gear 3, and then downshifting back to 1. this isn't rocket science and it took me 15mins to do it smoothly. now 15mins may sound like a short period of time, but bear in mind, that's at least 20-30 laps. by the end of my 100mins, i was very dizzy - partly from the heat and going around in circles, but mostly from knowing i paid $22 for almost nothing. this was confirmed when i was given zero feedback - so it's not because there was something that i did wrong or should improve upon. i still have 0 chops in my book, so if that's a record of what i've been taught, then it means i haven't learned anything.

also, at the start of the lesson, it became obvious that gender equality is not as prevalent within the confines of the school, as it is in the concrete jungle to which i've been accustomed. my female classmates were given constant and unwavering attention - no doubt one of them needed it, given the number of times she fell (wonder if it was really her fault, or due to the fact we were made to continuously ride around and around), but the instructor said no more than 10 short sentences to me. it wouldn't matter, and in fact i would much rather it be this way, but for that he wouldn't teach me anything else - every 10mins, he would say "ok, go" .. and that's it. i wonder if it would have made any difference had i been in an all-boys class ...

i'm frustrated because i know that prac1 comprises alot more than this. as an adult with a few years of daily driving experience (so it's not as though i'm unfamiliar with the general control of a vehicle), i feel suffocated. and i feel sick thinking that my next lesson will probably be conducted at this insanely slow pace, and that it will probably require more than just a few attempts before i move on to prac2.

i understand the need to take an adequate amount of time to truly progress, but why am i being made to learn at someone else's pace? i feel retarded (not in a bad way; check dictionary if unfamiliar). didn't help that upon speaking to a couple of guys who had a different instructor, i discovered that most of them had moved on and out onto the circuit by attempt 2 @ prac 1, and subsequently passed on attempt 3.

i hope i don't get flamed (though i see how ripe for misunderstanding this post must be) .. go ahead if you must, but at least try to see it from my perspective.

my first prac 1 was mainly bang tyres. it took me quite some time because it was really my first try on a bike. and i fell quite miserably. oh, i'm a female by the way.

in a way it may or may not be biasness. the instructor helped when i fell, and also helped by holding on to the back of the bike to help me balance. other than that, he only say that i should tap on the brakes lightly.

for my first prac, everyone who were first timers stayed on in the small circuit. going round and round and one fall, it becomes a domino, everyone started to fall also. so how? obviously not good enough to go outside.

my second attempt was still trying to familiarize with gear 3. i was the last one to join the rest going out onto the main circuit. but one thing i know is to ask. ask and just ask. maybe the instructors may not talk much to you during the lesson itself, but after the practical has ended, you can approach them and ask questions. dont get dissatisfied too easily after getting your booklet and going "darn ! fail ." or "darn. no chops". frankly speaking, my legs were flying here and there inside the small circle because i was afraid of going off-course. (also afraid later become superwoman laa)

i was like that too at first. and nearly gave up because of prac 3.

don't feel bad because you feel that your learning progress is slowed down by others who needed special attention. just prove that you can change up gear smoothly, and stop smoothly without having the need to jam on the brakes. because when you're in main circuit, you're going to have to proof that you can change up and down smoothly without jerking and brake and stop smoothly.

hmm ..

chill ya.

pass or fail, at the end of the day, get license can already.

different people, different learning process.

so how, do you think riding or learning to drive easier ? (=

thanks kh, hopefully things pick up at my next prac - cdc's available lessons few and far between for prac1 .. next one is late next week >

personally, i think riding easier - there's something about being able to see everything that gives me better control. that and the fact i'm a piece of meat on a stick, so i tend to be slightly cautious before attempting any stupid moves (i'm one of those young hot-blooded male drivers that people complain about all the time).

heyjezza don't be dismayed i took 3 prac 1 lessons myself too. realize have to be really smooth at gear shifting. it's like the basic imo. cause for the later stages have to utilize it to full use.

while riding, maybe hook up a conversation or two with the learners too? makes learning more relaxed haha.

anyway i pass my prac 5 today! quite delighted to pass on the 1st try. but of course got go circuit revision for 2times. :D

bitterhahas, ur prac 5 just now at 6.50 isit? i was doing my prac 8. hahaa.

heyjezza, dun be dismayed. seriously. i think its really okay to repeat lesson 1-4 alot of times. i took lesson 3 6 times!! wanted to give up, but i didnt. and yes, prac 1 is the most essential lesson in my opinion. u need to be able to control the bike and stop smoothly as that is the very basic of riding. :)

all the best!

-----Cause it's all in my head, I think about it over and over again -----
