1 question.

 

Wat's the implication of fitting a 12/60 tyre into our bike which uses a 110/70 nornally?

 

It's been done before. I've seen, just wondering if there are any cons and how it will be at track.

 

Dear Vik,

 

I have NEVER fitted a 12/60 tyre on my bike before. Though I have tried a 120/60. Hahahahahahahaha!

 

And just to answer your question from my opinion:

 

1) The steering will feel rather light. The steering responses are slightly faster compared to using a 110/70.

 

2) It definately feels more stable when entering, maintaining speed and leaning in the corners. The bigger front tyre gives me more feedback from the steering when I am in the corner.

 

3) It gives me more traction in the corners. I have more confidence to tackle a slightly more forceful line as compared to running on the stock size.

 

4) I can't really feel any difference in pickup though I am not one who will be able to comment on this point as I am not the sort to play with acceleration. So my point of view on this matter may not be accurate.

 

5) It gives me better front-rear balance when shifting weight during braking. This may be different on your bike as our ride heights are slightly different. My tail is slightly higher than yours, and when I brake on the stock tyres, a lot of weight is shifted to the front, and may overpower the traction on the front tyre. Hence, causing the front tyre to skid. This is also quite tiring on the arms and the thighs which are compensating for the braking forces.

 

Overall, I actually prefer the 120/60 front tyre setup compared to the stock setup. On the stock setup, the maximum lean angle I have ever gone into is about 45 degrees. On this setup, I have done a 50 degree lean angle and got out of it in one piece. (I wasn't intending to lean that low actually. I was going into a corner with my revs too low and the bike lost power in the corner. Still had grip to bring it back up by counter-leaning and gliding out of the corner though. =p)

 

Still, I would suggest you ask someone who is riding a replica model, or at least, someone who has a similiar setup for his/her opinion? I can only give you advice based on the '06 experience.

SLightly slower manuvering. But i dun think it will have much affect on the time.

I missed a shift at the last lap last corner remember? We had this conversation that day. Wrong gear so the bike bogged when i throttle it. I also thought i will get u on the straight... haha...

 

So your clutch prob fixed? i am trying something new to the bike again. And now getting the jets correct. I will see u at the motogp round ya. This time i must get the reducing radius right.
