Hi Aprilla riders... I need a bit of help..

I intend to get a second hand RS125.. And want to know everything that I need to know about this bike as noone is supporting me on getting this bike.. They said this bike has a lot of problems and darn expensive to get and maintain, but I kindda disagree and I really think it all depends on the rider and how he/she take care of it...

For second hand, how much would be reasonable? What should I look out for? My TP on 30th and I want to have a look at this bike but have got noone to bring me.. Can someone hmm.. bring me and guide me through this bike?

Every little help will be very much appreciated. Thanks.

haha. lolx. blastedgal, if u are a lady i am sure the guys are more than willing to send u home. but of cuz i depends where you stay as well. lolx.

if u want to buy a 10year old aprilia please do check on the condition of the bike if not ask someone who knows the bike well to view the bike with u. other than that you might want to prepare yourself to spend a sum of money for repair/ replacement of wore out parts.

If you're like me - ie, you can't be bothered or have no time to study the internals and get your hands dirty to DIY - then it's going to be expensive. Especially when you get a problematic batch like I did and especially when you want your bike to run at close-to-optimum performance.

I think I spent about 2K-3K on repairs and upgrades and tweaks already in just 1 year. (This is excluding all the premium 2T and gear oil and V-Power petrol expenses).

Just a heads up.

For second hand, how much would be reasonable? What should I look out for? My TP on 30th and I want to have a look at this bike but have got noone to bring me.. Can someone hmm.. bring me and guide me through this bike?

The RS 125 '06/07 is a good looking bike, but there's really nothing about it that you would need special guidance on. Maybe you just need to be aware of the low torque at low RPM compared to the 4-stroke test center bikes. You'll get used to it.

Thing is, I know nuts, but willing to learn if someone is willing to teach me with patience...

And I dun know anyone who knows the bike to bring me.. Almost everyone is against my idea of getting this bike... But I am so in love with it..

So they gave me the "you want, you find out yourself, and learn yourself" face... They dun even want to bring me to the shop to see the bike..

The one that is okay with my idea only says it depends on how I ride which define how much is expensive, and another said, if i really take care of it, it will take care of itself..

I am so confused right now...

That why sometimes outing quite late go home haha>

For bikes you can see a lot of diff APRILIA bikes n mech alot can check with them too> or hands on the bikes ( sit n position only)

Same when i was getting Aprilia> But when you get this bike think of riding of the class n respect of this bike> for this bike most thing (braking>power>stable>speed (singapore no need to go to fast) you want have already. Think some of us think this way Right?

don't worry about the transport part cos that can be arrange if u r keen to meetup but if u can't stay out late due to some reasons then don't force urself . . . if u can manage to turn up for the meetup I believe u will learn quite alot also . . . there r many others who r willing to teach u and let u know more of the bike . . . think properly 1st before really getting one cos u don't want to end up in the end don't want the bike and yet cannot sell it . . . .

What do you want to know specifically?

As far as I can tell, the RS 125 is a race replica and thus is a slightly more difficult ride for an absolute beginner compared to, say, the CBR 125 which just LOOKS like a race replica. You can expect to slip the clutch often to get to the higher RPMs with the RS 125 because it just hates the low revs like I mentioned earlier. With the CBR 125, it's just pick up and go.

However, maintenance costs and all that being said, the RS 125 is a damn fun ride for such small bike.

I live in Pine Grove (which is very close by to Clementi Ave 1) and I'm on leave the next couple of weeks so if you want I guess you can drop by and have a look at the RS 125 '06.

there is no need to slip ur clutch often if u don't intend to have that kind of rush feeling . . . if the carb is jet properly there is no reason why one will have such weak power below 5k . . . true . . . our bike r race replica but still spares r still not that expensive also . . . unless one always put in branded aftermaket parts like some of us do then that I cannot say much . . . .

Coming back late is not an issue for me for as long as I can learn and get more information and tips about the bike and if there's someone who can pick me up and send me home safely after. I can meet up the kind rider who's willing to pick me up at Paya Lebar MRT too - I think that'd be easier..

I have given it a thought, thus dun want to buy right away.. Want to wait and be extremely sure if this is the bike i want and if I can really afford it.. So perhaps I'll wait till October and might drag till December.. but confirm getting 2nd hand, 1st hand a bit off the budget uh..

As I know nuts.. I dun really know what to ask except, what to look out for? What are the do's and dont's...

I intend to get 2nd hand, and i dun want to end up being cheated.. How to know if the bike is still in good condition?

How much is reasonable for a second hand? How much is 1st hand?

Any shops to recommend? How much is the monthly servicing? How much should I expect to spend every month if i get this bike?

Thanks in advance!

Are you guys talking from personal experience specifically with the stock RS 125 '06/'07 model? Because those models come with a 28mm carburettor compared to the older models' 34mm and it made a significant difference to my ride, amongst other issues (like not optimally tuned etc).

I can guarantee you that the lack of torque at low revs with a stock RS 125 '06/'07 is severe enough that you will have problems accelerating upslope from standstill (like the one at Sixth Ave) with anything less than 5-6K RPMs, no matter how you tune the bugger. If you expect to move off in such a scenario at low revs, say 3-4K RPM, then good luck. This is even worse if you happen to be carrying a pillion.

I've also got other people with '06 bikes asking me what I did to solve the problem, presumably since they have the same problem on their machines. I replied that I sent my bike to a good mechanic for proper tuning (slightly lean) and other modifications, mainly a switch from the stock 28mm carb to a 34mm one. Even my mechanic when he test rode initially had commented that my bike is "for expert rider" (said half in jest). It really does take a bit of getting used to for a beginner.

Of course, it's a different story now after all those tweaks. Great performance now even at low RPMs (although I get a bit of knocking at certain RPMs because of the high compression ratio which is alleviated somewhat by making the mixture richer but that's another story).
