haha.. butter..=x but 30w used for oiling the filter i did seen somewhere before.. but must squeeze and only allow minimum oil in the filter.. if not the oil will be drawn in during suction of air.

well.. so maybe this week im heading down to WEDA to get the filter.. still learning parts by parts to DIY myself (:

Remember to buy your filter oil first!

I bought my filter, but procrastinated on the oil. Then when I got home, got all excited and installed the filter without oiling it.

Now I have to get a new one cos the filter may have hardened a little. When it hardens too much, it disintegrates and the powdery residue will get sucked into the engine, causing a seizure.

So now, to eliminate that risk, I have to get a new filter sponge, and ensure it is properly oiled before installation.

Yeah, I DIY but I am not immune to making stupid mistakes like that.

Learn from my mistakes, don't have to make them yourself to be wiser.

Did you even read the whole page or at least a few posts above? Or did you just see the last post and ask the same question again?

Valve broken???

Change the whole block??? (wow, what a crock of bullsh*t)

LOL

Check your valve yourself. Don't take someone else's word for it. It's broken, or it's not. There's no room for 'maybe'.

This is happened to me a number of times, and the following causes were to blame:

1. water in carb (caused by an open airbox that drew water in while riding in the rain).

2. water in carb (caused by a defective tank cap which leaked).

3. spark plug was loose (absent-minded hence didn't tighten spark plug all the way after servicing), so gases from the combustion were leaking out from the spark plug port. The vibrations damaged the thread.

4. spark plug was not firing properly (fouled due to overly rich carburetion).

5. spark plug was not firing properly (kept using a 1-year old spark plug due to pride and for bragging rights that my bike is so well jetted I can use plugs for years).

6. just plain ol' bad jetting, which is a common compensation by mechanics in Asia.

7. a leak in the extraction system (ie. the exhaust is not tightly/properly fitted; or corrosion may have punctured the expansion chamber or stinger of the exhaust pipe).

It might also be loose piston ring, but that will make the bike difficult to start, and it doesn't seem to be one of the issues. If it is the rings, just change them and it'll be fine.

In any case, none of the above requires an engine rebuild or changing the block that will cost you a lot of money. However if you feel generous and wish to fatten the coffers of the bike shop you patronise, then it is your prerogative.

Isa, tknge, any ideas?

My direct instinct tell me his bike is a bit too rich that petrol put off his spark plug firing at certain point of time. It is not to the extend till short-circuit his plug.....later maybe will....i think....need to see his plug condition....

Yes, it is true. This is custom make to oem design. I think it is CNC make and our oem should be cast or forge type.

I see...

Hmm, if it's CNC, should it be better? But whether if it's the same alloy as OEM, tat's a different question eh..

Any thoughts on this?

Cheers

PS. Valve prices are outrageous..

By theory CNC from billet material should be better but we not sure what material grade they are using. OEM used a alloy that is light and very little expansion after heated up and plated with Nickel. This little expansion allow valve have a free movement during opening and the plating allow easy of removing of carbon. My thought would be send for a nickel plating if buying this CNC part. If too much carbon build up on this part, the valve will stuck.:(

Yes, it's Twinair but it's black.

I got the one which is white on one side, and bright orange on the other. Now I know how dirty it is, and when I should be cleaning it. :cheeky:

Our OEM valves should be cast type, because the casting marks are very visible on the sides of the valve.

Our casted OEM valves are very light and strong, but also fairly brittle. CNC-machined should be quite heavy, but stronger depending on the material it is machined from. Heavier valves do not affect the valve performance, as the solenoids are powerful enough to winch them open in an instant.

Yes, spare parts cost have risen because WEDA knows no one else is importing Aprilia parts. As the monopoly, they can do whatever they want. They know we have to buy from them even if valve prices reach S$350 per piece.

But I won't bother with them anymore. With small and cheap items like air filter sponge, I'll buy from WEDA, but for anything that costs over S$50, I'll buy direct from apriliagenuineparts.co.uk from now on. It's cheaper and the parts are genuine, unlike getting it from here.

Thinking of ordering from UK and since u guys are more experienced with this, can tell me how long to ship in the items?

Any ways to get it into sg within a week?

Btw, apriliagenuineparts.co.uk is dealing with what currency? They're using a $ instead of the pounds sign..

If in UK, it will be in pounds.

The last round when i made the order, the parts arrived 8 days after i placed my order. Payment can be made by credit card.

Some pointers for the less initiated:

1) Call/email them to see if they have the parts in stock (be prepared with the part number you are after)

2) Tell them you are in SINGAPORE (shipping is typically a couple of pounds higher)

3) Given we are all out to seek a good deal, check out other websites to see if they are cheaper there (eg. ultimate parts ltd, apriliayorkshire.co, ebay, etc). Last time i checked, there is a German dealer that has pretty competitive pricing due to the weak Euro.

4) Shipping is pretty much flat up to a certain weight, so best to order more items at one go. Good opportunity to stock up on spares for consumables.

Cheers

Will do.. Gotta check some of the sites. Thx for the info eddy69..

AF1 mainly does 06-09. Not all the parts are same so I'm treading carefully there.

Off the top of my head I can only recall a few site.. PJME, apriliayorkshire, AF1, apriliagenuineparts and redracing.. Gotta check em all.

Long long time ago, before I learnt to DIY my own bike, I sent my bike to Ideal to change brake pads by the mechanic, Boon.

After the installation of the new pads, I rode home and brakes worked fine throughout the 10min ride.

When I was about reach my car park, my front brakes failed. Upon inspection, I realised the exact same parts were missing from my front caliper.

Boon from Ideal is the single, most powerful factor that drove me to learn about and care for my own bike. It is thanks to him that I am where I am today.

True story. Cross my heart and hope to die.

If I had to list the number of f*ck-ups by him that drove me to learn to DIY,this thread may suddenly grow by a few more pages. Not posts, PAGES.

Yes, the German dealer may be cheap but be careful when dealing with them. Their supposedly 'genuine' parts are questionable. Let's just say I speak from personal experience.
