hi im quite new here. might be getting myself a y2k rs125 soon this few days. may i ask about the maintaining of the bike? what do i have to do for normal routine?

and whether is it costly or not?

if theres a discussion about these before, please direct me to that page thank you!

I think we talked about this many times, many pages ago, and more many many pages ago, and more on such many many pages ago...

different ppl, different style, different frequency of servicing. Recommended, once a month, wash valve (it'd be better to learn how to wash yourself and do it every 2weeks... most of us already have the knowledge to wash valve on our own, just laziness in the way)

wash carb, and all those.. Change gear oil every 5000km, or once you feel sluggish and rough when changing gears...

All these, price wise, varies from shop to shop, and depends on mech or shop whether feel like chopping you alive, or want to chop you half dead, or want to be honest, or want to talk nonsense otherwise known as bullshits...

Costly or not, servicing and maintaining it, okay-ish, but if compared to other 2B bikes, it might be costly (depending what you definition of costly is)... As for parts, it is definitely much more expensive than other 2B bikes...

I always have that... Think it's normal... I usually will rev it 3 to 4rpm, stay for a few seconds, then let it idle for awhile.. and then shift down to 1st gear.. works for me, but not exactly all the time.

Otherwise, maybe your idling too low?

Do correct me if i am wrong...

Just some words of caution to those guys who are riding up for the MotoGP at Sepang.

Bring a long chain to secure your bikes together at the hotel and especially at the track. Preferably chain the bikes to a fixture that is securely anchored to the ground..eg lamp post or railings.

Every year, without fail, after the MotoGP, there are posts by members of SBF asking other members to help lookout for their bikes which was stolen at Sepang or KL.

There are bike theft syndicates there and they are most efficient at stealing and disposing the bikes. To them.. the MotoGP is a busy time.

All the bikes that were stolen in the past... were never recovered.

Thanks for the advise for everyone. :thumb:

Hey guys, whoever going best is bring your own lock & the suggested long chain. Double protection. You can discard the long chain when coming back to Sin if you think is too heavy or troublesome.:)

Jun,

Am checking up for you on beady deposits on piston crowns and what they mean. Get back to you soon on that.

In the meantime, can try dropping the needle jet one level lower (raising needle circlip up by a notch), see if it makes the transition from 1/2-3/4 throttle crisper. Might help with hard acceleration. But if idling creeps up on its own, it means its too lean and you gotta switch back the needle jet, and may have to play with another jet.

Chung,

Hope you understand that it's nothing personal. Just that my spidey senses were tingling and I didn't want to risk it. Those same senses saved my skin a few times when I rolled off the throttle just before I passed a highway patrol slightly under the legal limit. Next time lah, got plenty of chances. I'm dying to try that new CDI of yours. hehe

Vik,

Might be my eyes playing tricks on me but I wanna look at your yoke again in the daytime. And your rear brake is really scary.

Could you also help me get the jets back from your friend Chris? Thanks!

Rag,

Drop main to 152 if possible. In the meantime, use the needle jet to compensate, close idle adjuster screw 1/4-1/2 turn, and open air screw by 1/8-1/4 turn to lean it out slightly. Hopefully this leans out the bogginess at low rpm transition (0-1/8-1/4 throttle opening)

If possible, can try a leaner atomiser. I switched out the stock 264 and am now on 262. Everything (within 1/4-3/4 throttle) is considerably leaner throughout the throttle range so have to up the needle jet by 1-2 steps.

If you really need the jet, can try to order from PJ. New bike buyers dont like boggy bikes. :p

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

Hey Lawrence, thanks for the feedback!

I told you the rear brake is very tight.. Too tight in fact. Hahaha..

I dunno where the main jets, pilot jets, needle jets are located and how to adjust them (or what different needles means and what it does). If you have time to spare, maybe can teach me one by one, a step at a time? I am a very theoritical person, but would love to learn if someone can spare their time on me.... and teach me the technical aspects of the bike even more...

I have an apointment at the airport at 2pm tomorrow and working from 5pm to 11pm. I am off on wednesday. Today not working. Sunday also not working, but got a wedding invitation to go to probably head down between 2 to 4pm thereabouts.... If any of these days happen to be one of your free days to teach me, I'll be more than happy to head down your void deck and learn. Other days, working from 5pm to 11pm, so am free on almost every morning.

Jun,

This might help with your spark plug analysis. Read the descriptions instead of just looking at the pics (they're of low-resolution and don't tell the whole story).
