Hi everyone,

 

I am cancelling tonight's DIY as I had a minor incident with a taxi last night and would like to rest. I conducted a carb servicing diy this morning and realised that I am not quite capable of performing simple tasks like fitting tight manifolds, which means if anyone screws up I will not be able to take over and help you finish the job. Also, I certainly do not wish to use carcinogenic solvents on my open wounds.

 

I am ok, nothing's broken. I just have some bak kwa for those who miss CNY. Give me 2 days the bak kwa on my skin will be crispy and yummy.

 

If you're curious, yes I was wearing armoured jeans, jacket and gloves.

 

I appreciate your understanding and hope to see you on my next DIY.

 

Ride safely and keep a lookout for vehicles beating the red light at intersections, even when the light is in your favour.

Goin for my 1st service soon. I want to bring my own engine oil and all. Am still on mineral, isit ok if i change to the Fully-synthetic? any recommendation on which oil? And what else should i take note of when on my 1st service, cos i don wan my bike to be fed by the bike shop's stuff, whereas i can get even better stuff outside.

Servicing can be done by yourself safely, at no cost, and better than mechanics at workshops because they are pressed for time.

 

They may forget to tighten a drain plug, refit a gasket, ensure a seal is seated properly, or even forget to refill the new oil completely.

 

All this has happened before, and it will happen again....

 

DIY is best. Safer, cheaper, and in the comforts of your own home. Best of all, you don't have to trust your life to someone else you're paying $80 for.

Thanks Chung, they were shot with a Canon 50D with kit lens 18-200mm on full manual mode. Due to the good color temperature in Europe (usually about 2500K-2600K) you can shoot 1/2 - 1 f-stop under, retaining the saturation of the blues and greens. If you leave to auto the camera sensor will make corrections to the exposure thus leaving your photos dull and boring.

 

Try to shoot on full Manual mode to maintain control, and most important is your basic composition and techniques. If you didn't notice, some of my shots have issues with the framing, eg. details are cropped out of the original shot. This is a bad habit I am trying to break.

 

Also, I tend to overexpose to compensate for backlighting so some of my shots have quite lousy lighting (very harsh contrast). If you're interested we can have a photowalk/ride together where we ride to interesting places with different types of lighting and we can practice together.

 

For now, you should go for the free photography workshop provided by Canon. It's held at Harbourfront and its free for Canon customers within 3 months' of purchase. It's quite basic but it's a very good start to become familiar with the camera functions. I'm not sure what is taught there as I did not attend it but I heard from pple who have attended that it's a crash course to start on basic shooting.

 

550D is a good buy. Can shoot HD videos some more! My camera is a dinosaur - cant shoot videos. I'm thinking of selling my 50D to get a 7D. Let me know if you're interested!
