Wrong way of mounting a damper. It has to be horizontal to steering movement axis. For side mounting a damper, drill a hole at the main frame is a must for RS125. The main frame is very strong, do not worry about damaging the frame. It is tough to drill a hole on the frame.

Many thanks for your observation. When you say the mounting has to be "horizontal to steering movement axis" do you mean it has to be at a 90 degree angle to the steering axis?

Hey tyltyltyl. I got my used 08 Spain's No 1 RS125 from Glob*l Mot*r at Ubi. Paid $8k all up (machine, insurance ($500+ from NTUC) and GST). There are a LOT of fairly negative reviews of Glob*l Mot*r (search SBF), but my experience has been good. From memory, the negative reviews tend to be about deposits or monthly installments, neither of which applied in my case since I paid it all at the time of purchase.

I had a breakdown on my maiden ride of the bike. Went for a spin, came back, bike spluttered to a stop in void deck, then fuel trickled down and broke my heart. Glob*l towed it away the next day (no cost to me), fixed it up, and she's been running fine ever since.

My personal view of where to get the bike from - go with either the shop that has the model you're after, or preferably the shop that gives you the best service. There are plenty of evidence of the RS breaking down almost immediately after purchase, so you're going to want a shop that will do the necessary fixes properly and without giving you a headache.

I've only had the bike for three months, so can't comment on long term maintenance, but I can say that (touch wood) mine has been incredibly nice to me. Haven't had to top up anything besides fuel for now, but I will be going in for a carb clean and tune at 37 Motoring soon (see Sub Zero's figures here http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php/71802-Aprilia-Riders?p=6708961&viewfull=1#post6708961). The prices seem very fair to me.

I should mention that I only ride 50-80km on Sat and/or Sun mornings, so your maintenance experience/figures may vary if you ride it all day everyday.

If you're buying used, I highly recommend taking someone with you who you trust and who knows a thing or two about the bike. Mine helped me negotiate for new LED indicators, new tyres, and a new rear hugger. I honestly think I would've overlooked all of this in my rush/giddiness to buy the bike :)

i also bought my 2002 model there, got problems here and there at the first time and had her sent back to them for repair (free of charge) . tadaa ... no other problem until now. :)

seriously you ride for 50-80km????? where is the fun in riding rs 125 on such speed? lol no offence bro.

Think you got the unit of measurement wrong.

km is distance. km/h is speed.

vyruz was referring to the distance travelled, not speed.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

Hi guys, Im about to get an RS125 new or used if there are any good deals anyw.

any advices on where to get it? mah? excel? wherever?

and and how much is your average maintenance like? servicing and costs. :X

PLEASEEE advice. :(

got my bike @ mah 5 years ago.more than a year later the piston jammed.so maybe im the lucky one not to have too many problems on a brand new bike.most expensive repair done is nearly $2000 which is overhauling the engine.i have overhaul the engine abt 3 times which cost more than $1000.the most recent one is last month.i neglected the bike coz i was showing more TLC to my then gf at that time. so now im single,i have more time for the bike haha..

usually i service my bike every 3000km which cost abt $70 at 37M.

Hi, How much does it cost monthly to maintain a RS 125?

Posted (edited)

Hey i just took my first trip with my friends to melaka and back with the rs, everything went well (luckily) i did abit of top engine, carbon removal on the piston, then used the high temp gasket sealent to seal the head back. i guess its a cheap alternative(not the best though), just burnt out my clutch plates trying to do a burnout LOL wondering wheres the cheapest around in sg? i dont mind buying it and fixing it myself. and also wondering the knn cone filter would it help? my bike isnt running with an air filter now just the damn box lol thanks guys for the replies.

I sincerely hope u will still say that when ur bike engine make BIG problems. Hehehe.. So far your probs all still small one.

ive already set up a rs125 rainy day fund where im gona put a fixed amt into the acc every mth. haha. and im nt kidding. set up an acc wif no atm card so it wont be so easy to withdraw money. nd to set aside money for possible repairs and also the god damn insurance. so freaking ex =/

Hi, How much does it cost monthly to maintain a RS 125?

nt too sure. bt ive spent 160 bucks including petrol in it one week of life. heh.

it might just be the speedo cable issue. mine just broke recently and i thought its the speedo sensor.

its the sensor. got it fixed at MAH juz nw. luckily warranty cover that. phew

jc82 on pjme they have cdi unit that removes the lag around 6k rpm, goes for about 300sgd plus shipping. id reckon mah would charge more on a normal stock one.

eh anyone noe where i can get helmet liners? juz got one from ah boy, those evo ones, and its nt what i was looking for ah. wan sth that can cover my ears too and fits tighter, and pref those wif the tail thingies sticking out of the helmet when u wear em(i think it looks cool lol). I realize that my hair wax/gel f**ks up the cushion inside and its a prob for my pillions coz i alternate between my 2 helmets(one has tinted visor and the other has clear visor which i use for night riding) so a practical solution would be a helmet liner.

Hey chung. I'm something of a mixed bag. My great grandparents were from India and my grandparents & parents from Malaysia.

When doing your calculations, are you including gear as well (e.g. helmets, boots etc) or just parts that go on the bike? I think I'm slowly coming to understand where the high cost can come from, esp if you seriously track your bike. I'm hoping to start tracking really soon, but I won't be going all out for now. Aiming to start slowly and learn the correct racing lines first. Will be great to do an RS125 group track day sometime.

Funny you mention the 848. That ranks as my dream bike for now, particular the new 848 Evo. But you're absolutely right - it s*cks waiting for years and years to go by before being able to ride it. I had the Aprilia RSV4 at the top of the list, but honestly think I'll be doing the bike no justice with my skill level, even when I've years of experience under my belt!
