i strongly concur with you Lacrimosae.. (hey thats one of my fav stuff to listen to for motivation before a good jog!)

If its this coming Sat night - lets have it in SG.... cos im going JB in the morning with colleagues.. and too many people not keen to go JB.

I'm @ around 25-26km/l.. Full tank max out around 330km+/-. Yep, benchmarked till outta petrol at Mandai Hill.

Crow : If you are concerned about fuel consumption, a kapchai like Wave or Spark would match your needs. Afterall, its the rider's riding style that usually determines fuel consumption. I occasionally whack a lot in expressways but my speed 90% of the time is always around 80-100km/h.. :)

AND i still think that the RS125 is the #1 bike in terms of aesthetics and performance. First time i saw mine - "Goodness... THIS IS a 125cc?!?!??!" People thrash talk about how sucky and sickly the RS is but the thing is.. these kapchai riders have never even owned an RS.

Ride safe..!

Guys,

My bike couldn't start this morning. I played with choke, but no use. No response at all. Battery Voltage is showing 10.8v.

Yesterday night it was still ok, as I ride to and from office no problem.

I also notice there was oil dripped under my bike. It's clear, no colour and kinda thick (unlike petrol).

Any idea what could be the problem?

I haven't had time to investigate further as I am in office now. I'm still learning more about this bike.

Hope you guys can provide me some pointers to solve this problem.

Thanks.

If ur talking abt thick liquids there's only 2 types tts running in our system.. 2t or gear oil... Gear oil's black... Whereas 2t is mostly coloured... Have yet to hear abt colourless 2t... Did e bike crank up at all?

Can we not meet on a public holiday?

Let's make it this Friday or Saturday please.

Public holidays are not good times to be have a big outing and roaming around when our friends in blue are also waiting for us.

Alternatively, we can meet in 2 weeks from now, i'm free then. :)

There's brake fluid.

Gear oil is clear, usually a light champagne in color. If it's recently changed, it could be gear oil, from a loose outlet lugnut, or a leaking clutch gasket. If it's gear oil older than 200km, then it's dark brown, older than 500km it's black.

It did crank up a little bit the first time then immediately died. But after that totally no response. And in case anybody ask, engine switch was on. I am also confuse abt the liquid.

I think I have to try again later after work. Thanks Feelicks :)

Thanks lacrimosae. What is the impact if gear oil is leaking? Any tips on how to make my bike start again?

bike cannot start at all or will start but cannot stay on and keep dying?

if ur starter can crank, im guessing the problem is ur spark plug fouled up. seems like a common problem around here =/ some more u mentioned u "played wif the choke" try open up ur bike n replace with a new spark plug.

btw pls dun waste ur money to tow the bike until uve tried chging the plug. reali waste of money. went thru the process before. change plug on my own take maximum 15mins. couple of bucks spent. i tow to shop end up paying 50bucks -_-" bt we all learn frm mistakes i guess

Hi,

I would like to check as well. when u're travelling like 70 80, does the bike feel very hot? or does it get heated up easily

Not at all. Its not hot - at least for me. But you will need to monitor your RPM.. RS can get "grumpy" if you don't rev up. But when the valve hisses on.. its like a gorilla with a banana. :D

Ride safe..!

Just some old posts...

Bought my bike for S$2,000. Subsequently, I spent more on parts and maintenance thereafter.

1st year - S$6,000 - servicing, getting chopped at bike shops

2nd year - S$2,000 - mostly DIY, consummables like spark plugs, gear oil and 2T

3rd year - S$11,000 - started track racing; replaced tires, gear oil, brake pads and clutch friction plates every 3-4 months

4th year - S$14,000 - still riding track about 1-2 times per month, plus mods, I changed cylinders, pistons and bearings more often than I changed my underwear :D

5th year - S$10,000 - just maintenance and general upkeep, plus experimenting with aftermarket products

6th year - S$10,000 - same, general running costs

7th year - S$12,000 - maintenance and upgrades

My best advice to you? DON'T get this bike. PLEASE.

50 000 is like 4-5k a mth. you sure abt that ? this bike is that serious ? u know with such an income u can own a Honda integra.

Actually, I think you have your sums wrong. :cheeky:

In fact, to own a Honda Integra, you'll need to be taking $70k annually to sustain it and your lifestyle comfortably.

Unless of course, the car/bike is the only worldly possession you have, and your entire life revolves around it.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but most people actually have a life. Some people have other hobbies like photography and cycling, others may enjoy collecting wines, cigars, and bicycles. Aside from hobbies, we all have commitments to repaying our parents, paying life insurance premiums, loans, and setting aside 30% of our salaries for savings.

If I never had any other hobbies besides motorcycling, perhaps I could even sustain my bikes working as a garung guni man.

But if you are considering this bike simply because you think you can afford installments of $150/mth, an odd servicing here and a tune-up there, then you are terribly mistaken. And your decision to purchase this bike may end badly.

There are 2 ways your bike ownership is guaranteed to end:

1) you run out of money, and abandon the bike; selling it (in a decrepit condition no doubt) to the next buyer who is none the wiser; or

2) you upgrade to a larger capacity bike (and sell it to the next P-plater in whatever condition it was last in, naturally), and won't bother with the upkeep of the smaller bike.

Either way, you will spend a large sum as your initial costs, and still it will not justify the condition of your pre-owned bike.

I'm sure many others here have heard this lecture when they ask me about the expenditure on the RS125, yet they have made the brave decision to buy the bike.

In the end, the proof of real passion is the money, time and most important of all, the effort put into maintaining the bike. :thumb:

thank you lacrimosae, despite so. it is still my first bike. and i do wish to keep it in a good shape after years. i do still have much to learn. hopefully i do not screw up my first bike. as it will be my last bike unless something happens to me and the bike. i am not at all willing to upgrade to a larger capacity bike as i do not see the need to. ill indeed still get a car in the future but riding a bike will still be a passion and hobby. ur post to brighten my view on how much effort a person must put in to take care of any bike. thanks for your insight on how maintaining and keeping a bike is. =D
