Life without dreams is pointless, much like life without durian, ice cream, soya bean milk, sugar can juice, kong bak... but I digress. If you dream, it usually means you're also an optimist - you dream of succeeding. That will help you succeed. You never hear about so-called "realists" accomplishing anything great. It's the dreamers who get the important things done. So don't mind if I don't slap you.

If you're able, join spiderman on the track next month, if only just to see see look look. I'll try and go too, especially since I have to clear 4 days of leave before Aug 31st. Must see what my boss says though.

Oh yah, and let us know when you're suit shopping, some of us may want to tag along.

i dunno about Andrew bro, but I definitely wont be going to track atleast a year later.. At the most, i go and watch the rest play.. I wont e spending on a suit.. It's not a priority yet.. Rather use the money to do up my bike and also pay finish for it!! Still got 400 to settle!!

ANY FOOL CAN HOLD A TIGER BY THE BALLS, BUT IT TAKES A HERO TO KEEP ON SQUEEZING. And I am that f*cking hero...

Those who are thinking of stiffening their front forks - by changing to heavier fork oil, changing to harder springs, etc - may want to experiment with the following:

  • Taking weight off the handlebars by gripping the tank with knees/thighs and tahan-ing with stomach and back muscles.
  • Lowering centre of gravity by doing the above, as well as putting your weight on the footpegs.
  • Be more progressive with throttle and brakes.
  • Experiment with beginning to apply the brakes even before you've finished rolling off the throttle, and beginning to roll on the throttle even before you've finished releasing the brakes. This is a Freddie Spencer ('80s 500cc GP champion) technique. Please be careful when practising this, and as usual, don't blame me.

It's not a good idea to make equipment compensate for technique. I've tried the above methods for the past few months, and I've found that they've significantly reduced my forks diving under hard braking. Maybe it will work for you too. At the end of the day, I still intend to stiffen my forks, but it will be by a smaller degree than if I hadn't tried tried the above methods.

I actually wanted to discuss this with people face to face, but never got the chance, so posting it here.

griPPing the taNk yes... but if u r going to grind your knee... how to grip tank?

freddies technique supposed to result in energy conservation yes? tahaning with tummy n back muscLes dosen sound very appealing as compared to counter steering?

In theory, when you get your knee out, you'll be hooking your outside leg around the tank and chassis, so that will become an anchor point. Both your feet will also be hard on the footpegs, so those will also be anchors - even better anchors to focus on than the tank because of the low CG.

In the sense that Freddie's technique reduces fork travel, it does conserve energy. However, some would argue that the method wastes energy because the initial throttling is blocked by the last part of the brakes. The reply to that would be that the improved cornering from reduced fork load more than makes up for any wasted power.

Tahan-ing with tummy and back isn't an option to counter-steering; they're separate things. You'll be using tummy and back to resist the braking forces pushing your forwards and onto the handlebars. When you begin countersteering to set your lean angle, you'll be tahan-ing even more because you want to be as gentle with handlebar inputs as possible.

As gonggong said, that is a lot - maybe the most among us here. I do about a 1000km a month, so that's about 12000km a year, which is less than 1/2 of your's. If our bikes didn't need top-overhauling once in a while, changing O-ring once in a while, etc, then nevermind, but the way you ride you're really increasing your maintenance costs, speeding up the intervals. My brain advises you to get a 4-stroke commuter bike, yet I must be honest with you: If I were you, I would simply stick with my RS and budget appropriately for the heavier maintenance load. Eh, your bike due for overhaul some time soon in the future, right?
