Well actually you don't lose that much power such that u can't go to track, many internet sources quote about 10%...but it's also said that some engines do gain power over the years

 

And I think it's not good to do a hard run-in or entirely soft run-in.

 

An overy soft run-in, as mentioned, will not generate enough pressure on the rings to wear it against the cylinder wall, before the wearing pattern has worn off.

 

For an entirely new bike, you could seriously destroy your bike... Thnk of of your valves (assuming 4stroke), internal bearings, gears, n many other internal moving parts...If you exceed the recommended rpm, you will cause excessive wear n there high chances of premature failure.

 

How about hard acceleration and deceleration, but without exceeding the recommended run-in rpm?

 

ps: these theories apply for brand new, out of factory bikes.

This is NOT for 2-stroke run-ins.

 

These are instructions for 4-stroke bikes. Soft run-in, or factory recommended 'owner's manual' run-in will cause leakage around the piston seals.

 

Better to take it to its max rpm ceiling on track for a hard run-in.

 

Also mentioned was that the oil should be changed after the first 30km to flush out particles of ring and cylinder material, and also leftover machining chips and other crud left behind in the manufacturing process.

A new bike or engine will solve all your problems.

 

2-strokers run quite on low compression, so piston seal is not that important. Just ensure you warm up the bike gently, and rev the engine freely. Don't bounce it off redline though!

I just did an equipment check and I realised something terrible has happened.

 

Suit - ok

Gloves - ok

Boots - ok

Back protector - ok

Suit inner liner - ok

Helmet - Not at home

 

 

I'll have to pass this time round. Think I'll find some rope to hang myself later.
