Avita, don't be so scared that we will judge you lah.

It's great that you are thinking of Aprilia, though can perfectly understand that $$$ is a concern. How many people can say they don't think of money, even if they are earning millions? Hmmm, actually, they think about $$$ more ESPECIALLY if they earn millions, but i digress.

Read through the wealth of info on this thread, meet up with us (doesn't matter you don't have bike yet, cos sure can find way one), and ask the pros like servo!

All rise for Servo! :cheer: LOL

This guy ride his pepsi for so many years (6, if i recall correctly), and i'm sure he will tell you if you maintain the lady properly, there aren't that many problems. And if there are any problems, it feels damn worth all the sweat and toil when you ride this girl. Gosh she makes me all excited!

LOL

Don't apologise for your questions lah. We all here very friendly one. After all, we're riding the italian pony!

If I may just chip in here for a moment, being an ex-Aprilia rider.

Now, I'm not gonna nag at students and tell them something like "U haben earn enuff $$ / u still skooling.... no $$ dun buy bike, if not u suffer" kind of thing.

Nope.

It's perfectly understandable that everyone has his/her dreams and all, and that's all well 'n good. But u have to balance out what you want, and what u can afford.

If you're still a student, doing P/T jobs, perhaps you would like to consider a 2nd hand Aprilia instead? Let me list out the Pros and Cons that I can think of. There may be more, and I may be wrong, but here's what I think.

Pros of Used RS.

- Cheaper (COE settled, maybe road tax too, Insurance also.. if u COI)

- Insurance cheaper

- You lose less $$ when u upgrade/trade-in

Cons

- Previous owner may not have maintained it well (subjective)

- May be an accident bike (owner has to be honest abt it)

- May not be the "latest" thing (again, depends on you... subjective)

- Is it still under warranty??

- Reloan interest might be high

- Some owners may have a lot of installments left... higher than market value. Avoid these ones! :nono:

Pros of New RS

- New, guaranteed to be in good condition

- Warranty

- Looks tits! :thumb: The latest, the greatest!

Cons

- Insurance is higher for new bikes

- U pay COE, new road tax, registration, x-fer and get chopped by bike shop

- 1st year depreciation is jaw dropping, to say the least... :(

- When you upgrade, you're gonna lose quite a lot... gotta keep for at least 2 yrs.

- If you put in a low downpayment, you'll end up with either high instalments, or a long instalment period which will render the bike unselleable.

These are just the few that pops up in my mind.

My advise to potential RS riders, try to scour the market for a used bike first. Some owners might have bought the bike and found out later that they either cannot maintain it.... or they want to upgrade a year later.

My bet is.... Try to look for a used RS under 2 years old. The 1st year bikes are a good catch, because as I have mentioned, bikes depreciate a lot in the 1st year, then the depreciation curve will start to level out.

If you guys want the new small pipe, then look for the 03 model. 1 to 1.5 years old. The milo kong Aprilias are frankly.... crap... I know 'cos I used to ride a 97 Replica. That milo kong does a lot of damage to the engine via restrictions and overheating.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/DeusXMachina/Lean2a.jpg

I thought the pre-99 bikes had no restrictions and only the 2002 and after had restrictions in the exhausts???

anyway duesexmachine, i am planning to get a 2nd hand bike, cant bloody afford a first hand....im just waiting for somebody here to sell their bike :cheeky:

hi guys, i need to ask some question on aprilia RS125. my frd just got one from albert motor shop and it is facing some problem which i cant tell wat wrong with it as i never ride sport bike be4, so hope somebody out here can help,

first it's rpm can hardly pass 7000rmp (i guessed it is because of the valve coz heard be4 it spoilt or jam easily),

the rear shock is very soft(techns from albert told my frd it is normal for aprilia... i really think he is making fun of my frd on this)

also the batt die three times after changing a new batt, 2nd hand a.c- d.c convertor and the magnetic coil. (get the bike not even a month and my frd has been visting the shop twice a week...)

anyone know how to repair the above problem? and can also tell me around how much it will cost to repair the bike?

and one last thing, how far can a normal aprilia go with a full tank?

thank you very much for ur time.

The problem is not you can afford it or not, is how are you going to make yourself able to afford it.

haven hehe.. just asking only. cause i think it may be better to buy a new rs instead cause the bike may have lesser problems but still it depends on the rider.

cause i cant get first hand rs.. too ex but then i have no confidence in getting a good one or working one, would be quite dangerous on the road though.

i give a scenerio - 2 rider, A and B buy a second hand bike at the same time. both bikes same plate. A bought an rs125, while B bought a SP. A bought it at say 1k plus while B bought it at 2k. SP sure no problem on the average and rs sure have to go servicing?

does it mean that after paying 1 k for rs125, i have to pay more for servicing and it adds up till more than an SP. can any aprilia riders here comment on this? can give me an estimated cost of all the money paid for a bike to be in good con?

cause i am still counting down to take my license and its kinda of lame to ask such questions now, i feel there is a need to know how much i must roughly save to get a good working aprilia bike to serve me for many many years.

to cut it short, i wonder how muc is enough to get a good working aprilia to serve me for many years, say i will take care of the engine all these. or its not enough..

it is not the matter that sp got less as rs got more problem.

it shall be your luck as you get your bike, like one of my past. my friend and i was taking our lic 2b, so we won't think as much of getting a bike as the lic was not passed yet. soon after my friend got it and i haven't so he said he will wait for me and he did wait for me loh. when the day my lic was in my hand. we were thinking of what bike to ride... WAHAHAHAHA give it a guess what bike i get.....

we two bought the same bike same plate FP same price 1800 from the same shop.

and the problem came was no same.......

my friend milo can was dented. but he still take because he wanted to be the same as mine. hahahahaha but thing got worse for me. original no dented nice paint work. full black, white wording...... but it is a f*** bike.... problem i got is valve broken, no pick up, no top end, no power and pipe choke sound hahahah poor me.

kana chop on my head by the shop... sh*t that man... ah tiong.

ride on the first day. i feel good. but on the second day bike can't start. bring to service or can say overhual. because they wash the engine hahahaha. one week later coolant system can't work. that was my second week on the bike....

coolant dun haf total dry...

(he dare to say the bike okay liao)

sad...

So for my friend his bike was ok it bike can reach 150 with that stupid milo can. mine hahaha 110 only... so poor me....

my bike haizzz. i bought for three month use for one month.... spent one thousand for the bike and one thousand for the servicing.

use for one month change four valve.. ahhahaha one valve one week....

one valve cost me 138 exclude labour...

Hi westknight,

Please let us know how old the bike is.

The valve does not 'spoil' or jam easily. You should be able to reach 10,500 RPM. Even with a jammed valve, should be able to reach 9,000 RPM.

The valve usually jams because of a carbon build-up. To rectify this just clean your valve once a month or so.

The rear shock should not be 'soft'. Nor should it be 'bouncy', nor 'spongy'. If any of these words can be used to describe your rear shock, it means that the rear shock is blown. It either leaking oil, or has leaked till its dry of oil. Hence no compresion/rebound damping. A 'soft' shock is a busted shock.

I hope your friend didnt pay more than $800 for his bike. Sounds like he needs a LOT of work to be done on the bike. The shop is irresponsible and deceptive.

The bike has plenty of problems.

There is only ONE WAY OF SOLVING ALL THOSE PROBLEMS.

STOP GOING TO THE SHOP YOUR FRIEND BOUGHT THE BIKE FROM.

Bring your bike to somewhere reliable, where the mech is trustworthy.

An engine overhaul will set you back $700+

New shock $250-800 (depending on quality of shock)

You need to get your electricals checked out.

Aprilia should be able to cover 240-280km on a full tank of 13.5 litres.

Believe nothing you hear; and only half of what you see.

Do or do not; there is no 'try'.

woohoo~~

so many new peeps~~

i wanna sell my bike~~

umm not lah...

but seeing servo on his way to get his 250... i'm like OOOOOO

hey you guys, just get a 2nd hand aprilia will do...

it's not hard looking for a well maintained 2nd hand RS...

seek and you will find.... hmmm i'm not preaching!

best if you can get a bike from someone here.. cos most of us knows

each other and it's very difficult to bluff our way through... hehe

save the extra money on a new RS to do up your 2nd hand RS nicely..

a new paint.. new parts.. you will save up a lot...

afterall 2B will only be a passing phase, most people will progress to

bigger bikes or some will even be driving cars.. get a new RS 250 if you

must get a new bike... that's really a sweet babe~~ wee you weeet~

eh don't look down on the milo kong, k?

that's one of the consideration of our design for our AOC polo T, k...

hahah

and also if you're really getting a 2nd hand RS, I strongly advice you to

get it from a private seller... it's cheaper than getting from shop..

however there's no guarantee that getting the bike from a private seller

will be reliable.. but it goes the same for shop..

the age of bike is not really a concern... as i always think..

no matter how old is your bike, as long as you take good care of it, you will get a good ride..

*yawn*
