my add ons... in blue

Solo?

Personal Safety

Traveling alone near KL region is not recommended. The rest of the country are ok but still must read news and identify crime-prone towns.

always keep a lookout for m'sian motorbikes coming close to you, regardless of in towns or highways... steer/speed clear.

i was almost robbed (at least i think) in JB along the way back alone from Sutera to causeway few years ago. passed a group of 3-4 "mosquitoes" and saw from side mirror one of them suddenly speed up, cross 2 lanes and continue heading into my bike. throttle like mad and that bike missed my rear by just a bit. i considered myself extremely lucky cos i happen to be looking into the side mirror when this happens, else jialat liow. i have stopped going that area alone since.

Riding

Thailand... should not go more than 120km/h on main roads (between town/cities). The road condition is unpredictable.

At least a proper riding jacket, jeans and shoes.

thailand roads' bitumen seems to be more slippery and sometimes got sand when passing villages... i skidded when executing an ebrake few years back.

protective gears are strongly recommended, a must i should say cos if not for them, i would have suffered a lot more bodily damages.

Money?

Best to have them (including spare bike key) stashed at a secret compartment in your bike or somewhere else. Mine is secret...

open secret?

Your Bike

Make sure bike is fully tune/serviced before the trip. Learn to DIY if possible.

Bring the necessary tools/parts for urgent repairs. **Spark plugs, tire repair... I even have my Rectifier. I bring 12V torque wrench on super long journey.

That's why I like scooters with big big storage.

suggest also learn how to replace/fix the parts brought along.

even if can find the tools for use at overseas motorshops, mechs may not have a clue of where is what and how to do the replacements.

i still remember 2 unique experiences many many years back, being the 1st SW to get service from 2 reputable shops:

* tried to fit PA2 at equipment extreme: elson tried but gave up and asked me to go tai hin (their reseller) to fix the PA2 cos he said not familiar with SW and better not take risk.

* changed tyres at motoworld: 2 mech's at motorworld took about 1.5hrs fiddling and trying an error before getting the job done and that's after i called HelmetBOX for help. but i paid very much less for being guinea pig, only $145

Insurance

Must buy travel insurance for yourself and if in Thailand, get the 3rd party one.

Note your bike insurance covers up to Hatyai. Beyond that you're on your own. That's why better ride safe and come home safely. If you're alone, you set the pace.

note that the 3rd party insurance (commonly referred to as compulsory 3rd party insurance) do not cover as much as the 3rd party insurances like in SG (equivalent is called 3rd class insurance).

it covers only injury and death to humans and livestock and do not cover 3rd party properties such as cars, bikes, walls, buildings, etc.

and if you try calling their helpline, you're gonna hear automated machines in thai language, not an issue if you speak thai.

how i know? cos i tried calling, unfortuately :pity:

Ac motor is familiar in handling our bikes, especially dealing with transmission.

you will never want a guy who doesn't have experience in dealing with scooter to try out servicing your bike.. he charge abt $180 for a pair of new tires.

alternative shops for scooter servicing are tai hin and future scootering.

If you want to save on labor cost then probably diy is the choice le.

Thanks bro for the kind advice!

I just change to pirelli diablo scooter tire at AC motor yesterday, now my bike handling is wobbly a lot of vibration at the front? My handle bar is stock without any bar end, previously was not as bad before the tire change. My front bearing was also replaced yesterday so I dunno what is the problem?

You changed ONLY the tires? Or other services as well?

Generally, SW is very sensitive to minor wheel unbalance. Even a well balanced wheel will get wobbly after a few K of wear and tear.

Some wobbly is felt at deceleration around 40-50km/h and it is quite normal.

However, sometimes it could be the batch of Diablo tires. I had 2 sets of Diablo working fine and then the 3rd set got minor problem.

Please go back to ACM and get it re-balanced or sort out the vibration.

Ah Choong will help solve the problem. No need to be shy.

Yes i will find time to go down for a check. I don't remember seeing him balance the wheel unlike when I change my Super 4 tire. at other shop. Is it because scooter tire doesn't need to be balanced?

Posted
I changed tires at AC and he also did not balance my wheel after changing tires

ah choong does not have the balancing machine, he uses a gravity type tyre balancer like this one below

scooter tyres can also be balanced, especially the front.

yalo, my previous front diablo was vibrating since day 1, tried to re-balance but no go.

decided to have it changed at ACM (balancing done) after enduring for about 1k km, now ok liow :p

Hi to all, just got myself a JDM SW. Just wondering anyone has a "bigger" windscreen to let go?

Anyone? Or any idea how much it will cost to get one?
