$9400 OTR... means machine price around $8800?

For a 3 year old bike?

Not sure if my 2-year old can fetch that price but you'll never know.

Since current new bike price is so high, resale price might have increased too.

Must wait for those dealing with $$ to comment. Chairman?

Hi SW Gurus,

need some advice on purchasing a SW400 - Euro '07 Model.

SW400 - Euro - '07

Registered feb '07

34K Mileage

Outlook 8/10 - Silver - some minor scratches at the front fender

Engine sounds ok.

Brakes and lights work well.

No visible rust on metal parts

Dash need polishing

That's all i can figure out within the bike shop.

Taking the bike out is gonna cost me $9400 OTR (inc. insurance, road tax, 1 full servicing).

Im taking a loan..so we'll leave tat part with the interest out.

I need your opinions... is the price of $9400 "ok" for a SW in the condition i have mentioned ??

cheers

2 weeks ago my friend just brought a FBB 2006 silverwing, He got it for less then 7k inclusive of insurance, 1yr road tax and transfer.

Minister says "willing buyer, willing seller" :dot:

More than 10 years old bikes also have buyers and sellers. It's what you feel you like, can afford, will enjoy using and the rest don't worry too much because life's short. But try not to take loan for bikes.

Pls refer to the checklist compiled by our Chairman in the tech corner on buying a used bike.

http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=113114&page=2

Before, I always believed in buying new. When I bought my resale SW, I realised that resale is not bad, provided you take time to find the right one. You would have saved some money as someone has taken out a portion of the NEWNESS price. With the cost savings, you have some money to change this and that (which might be due for replacement anyway. Do factor some costs for this) to your liking, which you will not do so on a brand new bike due to warranty issues and a big hole for the initial investment.

haha... learnt from our ministers :)

It took me a long time to find the SW. But when I finally found the "ideal" one, it's done within 2 days. Never be forced into making a decision but when the conditions are right, don't delay making the decision, as it may not be for you to decide the next moment.

From your web albums, seems like you really like touring! Our touring SW bros should know who to call when you're converted :)

Will keep the wise advice in mind Uncle. :)

Yes, I love touring. Sadly, no bike at the moment..and touring in a "Cage" is expensive and jus plain boring! :dot:

The only way to tour is on 2 wheels. To emerse oneself into the atmosphere.

Yes, im definitely hoping my new bike (potentially a SW) can bring me to places and hoprfully further than with my Vara125. Well i hope, at the end of the day, even if I dun end up with a SW, you gentlemen will invinte me to tour with the SW group! :)

PS: btw, on my recent (nov/dec '09) trip to Lake yenyir at Trengannu, I met a couple on a SW 600. by any chance are they in the forum ?

don't think my 40k kms FBC Jan'08 registered bike can fetch that price too... got what we're trying to say ya :cheeky:

a little patience could do much good in the search for a good ride at a right price. buying from motortiam is usually more expensive unless you got lobang or darn good in bargaining. its no secret that shops take over bikes from owners at dirt low prices, "doll" up the bikes here-n-there and then sell at a premium, that's their trade. current high OTR prices of new units becomes their common BS to raise the premium further. you may wanna try to find out how much the motortiams are willing to take trade-in for a 3 year old SW in pristine condition, that'll give you some idea.

personally, i'ld recommend to lookout for direct buys from owners, prices are usually more reasonable :thumb:

sometimes can't blame bike shops as they have a business to run, employees and taxes to pay. so long as they earn "reasonable" and not all out to chop you, and they see the potential for recurring service revenue from you.

since you have no ride at the moment to trade-in and you need loan, you can bargain all out with them if you find something good. if things don't work out to your liking, there's always tomorrow.

Hi all just got my swing fix frm the lousy fc. Change my roller uclips and belt. Did my engine oil and oil filter as well as knn fitted. Now my bike feels very light smoth.

Now I'm thinking of fixing the high rev 3rmp to move off problem by changing the spring at that hold the clutch pad. Any recommendation on where can I get the springs, which brand and how much are they. Alway kana smoke by Honda kups and other bikes.:faint:

At the same time, the pigeon or rat move into my bike transmission area to stay. I can hear pigeon or rat like sound comIng frm there everytime I move off at stationary.

So many problems and have to spend so much $$ to change things to get the problem fix. Haiz shld have just stick to my fazer. Hahaha. Itchy backside.

You bought new or resale? If resale, expect to spend a bit on the initial maintenance / overhaul unless you know the seller and bike history. After I got my resale bike, first thing is straightaway to the workshop for a EO, EO filter, GO and sparkplugs change, transmission cleanup and a general wellness check by the mechanic. Give peace of mind and start from a good base.

I'm also thinking of changing to a softer clutch spring so that the clutch can engage earlier. Let me know if you come across one. The other thing I'm considering is also brake improvements as the beast carries a lot of momentum due to its' weight and I worry I may not stop in time should the need arises one day. Also trying to get use to the suspension. Thought of getting it stiffer but everything has an equation. Stiffer suspension will introduce more vibrations and may cause other issues down the road. Apart from these, everything seems fine for the bike.

You never know how hard the other guy is accelerating. If you want to be fast, just throttle more lor. But more also means more unburnt fuel which contradicts your desire to be more fuel efficient. Just ride according to traffic condition and not everytime need to be the first as it may be a stop light in front :)

anyone used cyclone before on bikes, or better still, used on SW before? was quite impressed by their demo where the ping pong ball flew higher with cyclone. used gen-1 version 15 years ago on corolla but now already gen-3. felt marginal improvement but wasn't proven on the dyno then.

also, is it necessary to clean the O2 sensor? I will imagine it to be cover with oil and carbon after some time and potentially foul up the readings for the ECU.
