Hi,

Im thinking of trading my Honda S4 & getting a SW but I have some enquires...

From my best of knowledge, In terms of power to weight ratio, handling, speed Honda S4 gives more compared to a SW600 or 400...Therefore, Im wondering if I'll be comfortable with the difference.

As it takes experience of riding a SW to judge(which I cant yet), Here are some questions I hope you guys could help me out with so that I can decide to trade or not to...

Does a SW 400 have sufficient power to overtake cars(80~100km/h) comfortably(with & without a pillon)?

Is it easy to maneuver around on a conjested Expressway(is the turning radius wide)?

How fast is a SW 400's 0~100?

Can a SW 400 be "mod" into a 600?

Just think of SW as a S4 with full fairing and no gears changing. SW lose only in top speed.

Is it easy to maneuver around on a conjested Expressway(is the turning radius wide)?

SW no need extra side-box for touring. Slim slim can squeeze anywhere.

How fast is a SW 400's 0~100?

Depends.

Mine is slow because I weak wrist power.

Many others are much much faster.

Can a SW 400 be "mod" into a 600?

Both have same shape and size.

Buy the 600 if you prefer slightly more raw power but FC of 20km/l.

400cc generally between 23-25km/l

howdee, my views are in green... just my personal views, not gospel truth

S4 and SW are 2 totally different type of wheelers... imagine S4 as an apple and SW as an orange, comparing them wouldn't be much conclusive... it depends on what/which you like.

power to weight ratio:

weighing abt 170 (dry weight) with an inline 4 engine and driven by 5-speed chain drive, the S4 clearly has better power to weight ratio when compared with the 50kg heavier SW which runs on a parallel twin engine using CVT and belt drive.

handling:

S4 is a road bike, SW is a scooter. abuse the SW like a road bike, be prepared to kiss the tarmac.

a SWinger claimed can do 1 hand cornering, but i wouldn't dare try :p

speed:

S4 wins hands down, jsilverwing can easily prove it to us.

drag the S4 in gear 1 & 2 when light turns green vs. throttle the SW and wait for CVT to do its work... not really comparable.

SW is designed for comfort, utility in city and stability when touring.

As it takes experience of riding a SW to judge(which I cant yet), Here are some questions I hope you guys could help me out with so that I can decide to trade or not to...

Does a SW 400 have sufficient power to overtake cars(80~100km/h) comfortably(with & without a pillon)?

no problem so far... but don't expect that kind of overtaking a road bike can achieve by dropping a gear.

Is it easy to maneuver around on a conjested Expressway(is the turning radius wide)?

we haven't experienced much problem with normal lane splitting but it is much wider than a S4, thus not wise to try squeeze through when the gaps are tight.

turning radius is bigger than a S4 due to its longer wheelbase. put the S4 & SW side by side and you'll see the distinct difference.

How fast is a SW 400's 0~100?

for me its definitely >10 sec, dunno about others like bigcow n helmetBOX!

Can a SW 400 be "mod" into a 600?

engineering wise, i don't see why not? but all mods are illegal :deal:

my previous Swing600 max i clocked was 17km/L

The owner after me only clock 12km/L >.

I guess weight plays a lot of diff.. He was 100++kg...

Thanks alot for the replies.

Didnt know a 600 has FC of 20km/L.

I was told it was no more than 16km/L(hence the reason for eye-ing only at SW400)...

Will be looking further into a 600.:)

20 is when young and gentle riding :p

those we know mostly gets much lower after few years, add some wrist power and it goes lower.

why get a 600 when you wanna ride gently? :D

Mine sold already. Only zesture still have bah.

yeah. i stil have my K&N air filter. who wants?

btw, s4 vs swing..

swing more comfortable, wider, smoother more wind protection.

s4 definitely faster and slimmer.. but eh.. that's all.

in terms of 0-100, swing is slower than s4(if wack gear 1,2), but definitely faster than alot of cars and small kups liao. lane splitting wise, take a bit of practise, but definitely wouldnt get you stuck.

btw, get swing 400 better ba, if wanna sell, easier too.

btw, long time no see everyone. how's everyone doing. i'm working on every Thursday night again..

how you ride will determin the FC.

for my previous SW600(low mlileage of below 10000km)

i can get 21.9761km per litre while on touring to penang. clocked a few other tanks of 21.XXXX km/ litres too on that trip. That was the only trip the bike went.

In singapore, it ranges between 18.0862 to 20.8476 km / litre.

I think ppl normally go for 2 choices; the SW400 or the Tmax500.

1 for comfort ride with big storage and the other for power and speed.

Tmax also have an average FC of 21km/l.

Hi Swingers , i just went down to KC today n let Ah Choong to do a full body check up on my SW400. As i just bgt over the bike last week from a reputable motor shop, i still have some doubts on how the previous owner maintain it.

I'll cut the process short, ah choong is very friendly and patient, as im a newbie when it comes to bike, not to mention 2A bike.

He clear all my doubts and gave me very good advise on what i shld do. He's not pushy type, unlike some others who just want the list to pile up while they "Chit Ching!" (cashier :p ) alot from customer.

Manage to chg EO , oil filter , Denso SP , transmission oil , diablo tyres & clutch springs. (even retune for me )

Over all experience is a thumbs up!

Im definitely a happy customer with a list of mod in the wish list! :thumb:

Hope to catch up with u guys soon!

Why change clutch springs? Retune meaning synchronise air screws?

Why change clutch springs? Retune meaning synchronise air screws?

Hi chief, after i related what i've encounter when i pillion ( loud noise from rear axle ) n throttle hard , he concluded that its a clutch slip.

He remove the rear transmission compartment and explain to me parts by parts, n true enough, the noise disappear after he chged it. Theres a few other items that need to be replace soon, will probably do it during the next 5k oil chg.

He use this device call Carbtune to recalibre my fuel and air mix?

He said my idling wasnt healthy, and low RPM felt restless...

After some "Screwing" (air screws?) :D around, throttling and some reading on the carbtune, my ride is indeed smoother and more responsive now.

Cant wait to visit boleh land to try top speed :D

Hi chief, i dunno if its iridium, but its $18 ea?

As for transmission oil, he recommended me the Motul transmission oil, while the EO Motul 7100.

Not sure bout the transimission oil, but i've used 7100 on my phantom n i quite like it.

Thanks for the dress up link!

if its $18 ea, then they should be the deso iridium IUH24 :thumb:

7100 is a reasonably good eo, important thing is to stick to 10w40 which is recommended in honda owners manual (ask ah choong and he'll tell u why). its much better than the very expensive 300v that's not as lasting.

the issue on transmission oil is more tricky. our SW manual said to use 10w40 (same as eo) but most motortiam will tell u otherwise. some SWingers (including myself) follow the manual but some others use the normal transmission oil that are usually heavier (between 70~90).

i changed my gears n bearings last year and saw that the gear teeth are rather fine. a guess may be that heavier and more viscous oils may not be as effective to seep into the fine gaps as required to lubricate the gears fully.

why honda recommends 10w40? seems only honda knows :(

On "paper" T-max has 40Hp whereby SW 600 has 49Hp.

Shouldnt SW 600 produce more power & speed than T-max?

Posted

Luke, If you want POWER and torque, you should go T-max.

Cos T-max has half chain half belt drivetrain

Swinger has full V-belt system

Full belt system has more power lost in transition as compared to T-max's

If you want comfort ..... get Swinger400.

Forget about the 600 la. Been there done tat. ^_^
