have you upgraded your front fork springs?

if still using the stock fork springs, suggest you spend the $$ on a pair of Hyperpro before thinking about the rear... imo, the deficiency at the front is far more critical. but if budget is no issue, can do both :p

as far as we know, the rear is still ok for both touring and daily rides, especially if rider is not one of those heavyweight riders and/or carry heavy pillion most of the time. like it harder? use setting 4 or 5.

many of us including our tour-master SW9000 and meself are still using stock shocks, so far so good.

I agree with chairman, front spring change is more impt. For rear, i find theres only big difference if u like to play corners. For most usage, i do like e stock softness for comfort.

Also, i recommend u use e stock shock til spoilt then change ba.

Use until setting 5 also bottom out then change to Hagon.

Hagon softest setting is between our stock 4 and 5 IMO.

Last night was my last time riding on my SWING. She served me well. She went through the toughest time with me. I remember the during my part time diploma evenings, she will ferry me from CCK to Changi, after work from Changi to AMK. In one single day we clock almost 100km. When Diana was pregnant, every medical appointment we will ride the SWING. Some evenings, my daughter will wait for me at the void deck to see me home with my SWING and she will want to bring her for a short ride on the SWING.

Lastly it is she that bring me to know the SWING Group. SWING bring along different people from all walks of life. Sharing experience and lobangs during regular Thursday meeting. I travel the longest distance with my SWING tom yam land, she is so reliable and never break down. She prove the world so what if it is belt drive, i can still travel to Tom Yam land. Shaft drive didn't even out last SWING. This is the best experience I even had on a bike. I will definitely reminisce the experience with SWING.

Don't worry guys I am still joining the regular Thursday Kopi session. :cheeky:

thx for all the input :)

both my front & rear are on stock. rear oredi click to 5 even when i'm riding alone. juz feel the bumpy, especially on bends & cornerings.

budget is currently an issue... in dis case, most prob i will do up my front 1st as advised.

I cannot ride with setting 5. Too hard for me since I usually travel alone. Normally I'm on 4... a bit soft won't hurt the butt yet stiff enough it won't bounce(wave) when cornering.

When occasionally pillion then I switch to 5.

hmmm... dunno what you expect from a stiffer shock spring but generally, the bike will be more bumpy when rear shocks are stiffer. basically, stiffer springs or higher preloads (e.g. set to 5) will make the ride more bumpy.

it is not exactly correct to say that the stiffer the better, cos a good pair of shocks need to be configured to balance the compromising objectives of road holding/handling and passenger comfort. yes, to find the right compromise.

when shocks are soft, bike tends to be more comfortable as it shields the rider from vibrations from road imperfections and minor bumps of the roads. bad is that bike tends to experience big "displacements" or bottoms out when it encounter larger bumps, compromising road holding and handling safety.

however, when shock springs are too hard, not only the ride becomes uncomfortable (feel more vibrations and very bumpy), excessive bouncing may cause control issues thru loss of road grip.

it is for this same "compromise" reason race cars/bikes change their suspension settings according to the road/race conditions for every race, attempting to get best grip of the track without too much bouncing.

and springs are not the only important thing, the damper also plays a critical role to road handling. the spring shields the vibrations and bumps but it is the damper that "stops" the "oscillations" caused by the displacements.

the rear shocks we are using are known as coil-over springs; coil spring installed over a shock absorber/damper.

imo, a desirable rear shock/setting should be one that is "customised" to the rider's needs, e.g. rider's weight, pillion's weight (if any), regular road conditions, riding style, personal preference, etc.

i.e. while the much harder Hagon shocks (not to mention it is longer) may suit some riders, it may not be as desirable to others. e.g. i am still ok with the stock ones, maybe due to my lighter body weight and 80/20 highway/city riding pattern.

bro.. harder spring = more bumpy.. Why to try to click to 3? You may never know.... maybe you need it to be softer than harder. Sometimes people thought the ride is too bumpy, then keep hardening the spring rate, when what they need might be the opposite. So, try click to 3, or even 2, something that have more difference than your current setting before deciding..

Read some where in an article that the best setting is the softest allowable without bottoming.

I bottomed number 3 over road humps (me getting too heavy)... so the next best is still 4.

hmm... guess i have to really notice my 'feeling' again to see which is better... i have dis concern cos sometimes at higher speed, even at straight road, i can feel the rear shock kinda "re-bounce" back upwards when encounter uneven roads or pothole... will discuss more when we got meet ba. :)
