No changes or mods yet. So I guess could be dirty transmission or worn clutch pads cos I still have an estimate of about 15k km to my belting...

Fazli... gaining some weight will also need slightly more rpm (power) to move off.

Start your PT.

hehehe. Just joking.

Could be slight roller worn (getting too light), clutch slipped, restriction to moving (moving parts insufficient lubrication), flat tires, and seriously, added weights.

Btw, 3k rpm is still ok. Don't think the over-rev sound is disturbing. My SW-T is 2.8k.

down camerons was fun, especially with sw9000 leading.

I took the lead because you were following the lane too strictly.

Wanna enjoy the corners at Gua Musang must cut across 2 lanes and go tangent to the corner. **But must glance that no vehicle following too closely.

After a while, yeah, you were flying through the corners too. Bet you have known it long ago but not wanting to show, yah?

Was actually wanted to slow and let you go 1st but I took noticed of the BMW... must chase! But still cannot win him.

Just arrived. Still wondering how they can air mail the parcel of 1.3kg at 3 sterling pounds when our cheapest rates for a 0.5kg vPOSTEurope is $35.50 and Singpost Air Parcel to UK is $36. We are getting ripped of!!!

Any advice on the gas spring?

So any review on your carbtune yet????

Going through the manual. There's a para:

Carb adjustments should always come last when servicing or rebuilding your bike. The rest of the bike should be in good tune before balancing, and that means the points, plugs, ignition, tappets, air filter and oil, should all be in proper service.

So far, had ran injector cleaner for 2 tanks and changed EO not too long ago. Need to clean air filter and standby new plugs. Probably do on weekends to give myself more time.

Also, like SW9000 pointed out, the readings should be balanced to within 20mmHg, not difference as stated in manual.

So far, can only say I got what I ordered :)

Hahaha! OK, I believe its the clutch pads cos when ask previous owner whether he changed before he said "SWing got clutch pads???". And also I believe my transmission needs cleaning. My FC from average of 24km/l now drop to 22km/l... Thanks for all the replies.

Btw, my previous owner said that Future is moving to Bt Batok. Have they moved yet?

... sometimes there's a strong rubber burning smell coming from my transmission and tire area.. do i need to be aware of any issue? belting? clutch?

burning smell... hmmm...

haven't actually experienced burning smell from there except when trying to burn a little off my new set of clutch pads; activate all brakes and then throttle up to like 3k rpm for a few times (only few seconds)... got chow tar smell le :p

my guess is... clutch slippage, and possibly serious slippage since you got it while riding. hopefully the pads still there or you're going to experience bell damage (e.g. gashes on the inner bell surface caused by metal-kiss-metal). another possibility is belt slippage but i'ld say more likely it is the clutch :pity:

i see, scooby thanks for ur feedback on it.. will inspect my clutch soon.. btw what the recommended mileage to service the clutch?

:cheer:

FJS400 owners manual says "I" every 6k km but i think that's kinda excessive.

personally, i get my transmission system fully serviced every 10k km or whenever back from a major tour... dismantle front/rear variator and clutch assemblies, checked for wear, washed/cleaned, grease/oiled and put back; "3-in-1" changed at every 20k km.

with regular servicing, not only the bike feels/performs good, the clutch pads also lasts longer. my factory set of clutch pegs lasted me >50k km before i decided to change :thumb:

btw scooby is the clutch bell expensive? and can the 5 clutch pads replace separately from the clutch assembly?

the clutch pegs (set of 5) may be changed separately, price has gone up to around $80+ (inclusive of labor). dunno the price of bell cos haven't changed mine yet, after all these years :p

Ehhh. Btw, it is very important to also clean that small little air filter at the belt assembly cover.

That's where the air goes in to cool the system.

Dirty filter = not enough fresh air = over-heating...

just remembered this...

burning smell could also be caused by defective torque clutch spring(s) where one or more clutch pegs are not held in their disengaged position thus touching the bell even when at idling. usually can see rear wheel turning slowly and/or hear some "scraping" sound.

inspecting the parts when servicing the clutch assembly could tell a lot, look out for chow tar n excessively worn areas.

Okie, will inspect it soon.. Torque spring wise, erm I doubt so as I replaced to malossi one a month ago. If is spolit then I replace back to stock le.. But the funny thing is that it only occurs sometimes, just now try sniffing it but no smell. I was thinking is it only happens if I go really slow up a inclide slope. As I remember last sunday I came out of a carpark and the car infront was really moving slow (hun ji auntie, as she afraid of hitting the side walls) hence I need to go really slow like moving just on the biting point speed for abt 30secs which at that moment I can smell the burning smell real strong, fyi i'm carrying a pillion also. It it due to my clutch pegs burning?

Btw I went to a few dealers for quotation on the clutch pegs. Everfit is the lowest, 66 for pegs, 87 for bell. Pegs will arrived next week, bell at least 2months :( sian. Btw chong aik got all ready parts but price are way ridiculous.. Haha

happen to read back and realised i got the names torque spring & clutch springs jumbled up... the springs holding the clutch pegs inwards are clutch springs, my bad. torque spring (also known as contra spring) is the big one at the centre that presses the rear variator plates together.

* clutch springs... http://www.provoscooter.com/magento/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/0/2/02.99605.265.jpg

from you latest detailed description, we could be quite sure that the burning smell is from the clutch pads. i'm pretty sure you can reproduce the chow-tar smell if you repeat the process again, i.e. creeping upslope at biting rpm for about 30 seconds.

this is not considered a clutch slip as this "slippage" is supposed to happen by design; we call this "half-clutch" in driving. imagine what will happen if clutch immediately becomes fully engaged upon throttling... bike will fly forward, rider also http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/TV_and_Movies/superman-239.gif

at "biting point", the 2.5k~3k rpm generate just sufficient centrifugal force for pegs to "bite" the bell but not a full grip, i.e. clutch pegs/pads are not holding the bell firmly but are "rubbing" hard against the bell, producing sufficient friction to partially turn the bell which in turn turns the wheel via the gear assembly.

the more rubbing, the hotter it becomes... hmmm... sounds errrr

half-clutching cause wearing to the pads but it is a necessary aspect of automotive clutch designs (cars' clutch systems also use similar concept). clutch contact/friction is manually controlled by the driver in the case of manual cars, and automatically by the auto-trans system in the case of automatic cars. prolong the half-clutch in manual car or bike, we will always get the burning smell. burn too long, clutch plate/pads get worn or damaged and need replacement.

$66 for a clutch peg/set is good price. but if add 7% GST (becomes $70.62) and labor cost, total replacement cost becomes much higher. if you motorshop can do everything for $80+, i'ld recommend to let them settle everything :p
