Most articles in the web on running-in a bike would recommend:

1. The most important period is the 1st 100km, where the EO and filter should be changed.

After this, either hard run-in or normal run-in depends on owner. Most I believe still go for normal.

The 2nd oil change onwards can just follow what's required in service interval specified by HL.

Thanks. I did not put any strain to e engine thus far, been keeping rpm below 4k, although it kills me to travel to Changi from Jurong at only 70!

Nonetheless, I'm enjoying e bike.

Oh one more thing, it seems that e max is quick to get hot. And then e fan starts to kick in. is this normal?

Hi RayNg

How old is your bike may i ask? Still under warranty? Cos mine is registered in August 2009. Don't think i have warranty now? Nevertheless will make time to check at HL.

But if there is design flaw, changing to new one whether with warranty or not, won't the problem arise again after some time. Cos mine is only 1 year and 7 months old only.

My bike is just last than 3mth mileage at 6500km. The warranty covers for 6mths or 6000km which ever come 1st.

Your question is what I'm worried about. What's the use to fix another pump when the new one may fail again in the future. Unless yamaha wake up and decide to do a recall to fix it, we'll just have to see who's going to be the next unlucky one.

Bought this bike so that I can go for some tour ride but the idea of dunno when it'll fail on me make me lost confident.

did u guys notice, when our engine is still running, u place the side stand down it will sound the fuel pump as if draining out the excessive fuel.

usually my practice is to bring down sidestand, den only I park on mainstand and allow the ignition to b switch on for another 10secs aft the engine cut off. wonder if there is any diff as compared to switching off the ignition upon stopping the bike.

No leh this bike never pump Malaysia petrol before. But I don't think Malaysia petrol will harm the pump as all my previous bike are supporter of Malaysia petrol haha. Diesel I'm not sure ba.

I suspect is a design fault of the pump. Further more our pump and fuel tank is placed close above the engine enclosed by all the plastic that trap the heat. Many ppl complain the pump fail when the tank gets very hot which happen to me too.

Another thing to add on, whenever I start my bike, i will turn on my ingition, after the valve or fuel pump sound clear!, follow by I'll press the start button. You did that too?

I wonder if this method can help prolong the fuel pump life? My previous 4 year Tmax I did that upon start & heat must be at least a quarter hot then i move off..

same for me. I will always warm up till at least 1/4 den move off and also wait for the sound to clear b4 I hit the ignition button. beside this, wil use sidestand to cut off the engine b4 I park on mainstand and off ignition.

Yup always do that whenever i start my bike. Whenever we switch on, the bike will do a simple test to check everything are fine and the fuel pump will spin to pump up the fuel pressure.

Still strongly believe that the pump failure is due to heat. After much research, a few of our local tmax have experience the same problem when the tank gets hot. Once it cold down, the pump start working. Oversea too experience the same problem. Some mention that yamaha will change to a upgrade pump when they went for service or when it fail but i can't confirm how true is it. Lucky for them their warranty can run as long as 3yrs.

in the first place, no petrol station will guarantee that the fuel stored is sediments free, even those in SG. thats why modern vehicles comes with a fuel filter to filter out unwanted stuffs into the carbs/injectors. if really got problen with malaysia petrol, shouldnt the hundreds of thousands of malaysian vehicles start complaining already?

i also heard before Ayer Keroh R&R Petronas water seeped into the petrol storage area and a lot of motobikes pump petrol the water went into the carbs then cannot start. happened to one of my fren

... but thats another story for another day

also the keywords on google 'tmax fuel filter' comes out tops a youtube clip similar to the problem Rayng described.

seems to really have a design problem.

ahpek, H&B rack can get from M technic but the rack must remove the 2 pillion handle making it fugly IMO.

i got myself a tailbag instead for xtra luggage space during trips.

How can the tank get hot? long hour of riding? Or keep riding at slow speed at massive jam highway? Long term of making the tank hot without proper cooling down will cause the fuel pump to fail? **** then... Just hope I'm not the luckily one... Gana this type of problem on the way going out, especially when u tour to north then this thing happen is ****! Haha
