See from YouTube... Not torquey and power trans very smooth leh... Pondering to install when jcosta arrived... Papadum... Any comment on that? Thanks...

Hi there, i believe you got the race version cos you mentioned the 2 sets of rollers (16.5g & 15g iirc) that came with it. I can't say much about it as i am using the regular version with the 18g roller. Personally, i think the race version (with its lighter rollers) over revs the engine compromising smoothness, "rideability" and reliability to say the least hence my choice after much contemplation. I believe the regular version is a good compromise between the stock variator and the race version. Perhaps you can join us the next time we meet and try it out before you let go yours.

Hey Zes, i just got my J Costa (Non-Race version) installed yesterday and you are totally right. I'm really loving it. As far as i'm concerned, the "love" is not so much for the new found power boost but more for the ridding of the little annoying bits that used to bother me with the stock variator. I went rounding for a bit to familiarize myself with the changes and the below is what i have learnt.

- Engine braking was reduced significantly. I need to relearn the distance it takes for the bike to come to a halt that i was previously accustomed to.

- The 0-30km lag was gone. Power was linear throughout from 0-100km. Significant boost on the low end.

- Move off RPM increased from the usual 2k to 2.5k. I guess the 500 extra rpm you are getting is the result of the Malossi clutch spring.

- The "kok" sound was totally gone when you open your throttle quickly while cruising at low speeds with the clutch disengaged.

For the time being, i can't comment if there is a difference in the fuel consumption or a drop in the top speed. However, i will update again once i get the chance to do so.

SP2.....

oh ok... thanks...:)

Hi guys I'm stuck between tmax or Silverwing. I'm leaning more to the tmax but need some info so I can decide on which.

- how much the maintenance on bike? Example v belt...

- is the bike reliable? Example electric like magnetic coil etc.

- what kind of breakdown or any problem with the bike.

- I look through e service manual and seems like the engine is very different from a normal scoot. Will there be any problem?

I will riding the bike for 4 yrs maybe more. So I'm more worried about reliablity of the bike.

Negative comment are more welcome so I can have a better idea on which bike to choose.

Thanks

If you post in Tmax thread then you will expect positive comments. You cant go wrong with jap scooter. Even the parts are ex, at least they lasting then the taiwan or Italian make, at least from my point of view...

Both bikes are good, depend on your intended purpose whether you are looking at smething more sporty you can take Tmax if not SW is a fine choice as well...

if you are looking for a work horse.. SW is the bike..

if you are looking for a cheap maintenance bike.. SW is the bike..

if you are looking for a bike that is powerful.. Tmax is the bike..

was riding a sw before changing to a tmax..

back then i was deciding a SW or Tmax..

i choose SW.. because

cheaper.. in term of bike price insurance road tax.

maintenance cheaper..

storage place bigger...

and why i change to tmax is because there is no other bike to change.. and the price for trading in my SW is good.

The belt, rollers and U clip I was quote $300 or so...

No much problem for Tmax and SW.

Unseat storage wise Tmax around 33l and SW 55l. In a nutshell Tmax can only store one FF and some barang but SW can store 2 FF....

Both using 2 cylinders engine which is a lot smoother than those single cylinder from other makes.

Good agent support from both makes.

Looks wise, hmm.... both latest model looked wicked to me, but if I got a choice I would select between SW600 or Tmax 500.

Right at the start i was tempted by the Kmyco xciting. I like the sporty look of it which is very close to the Tmax but than i was disappointed that they don't bring in the 500cc version.

So i'm left with 2 choice. Tmax or silverwing. Both bike are just as good and the headache part its so diffcult to choose between which.

silverwing

- huge compartment

- easiler to maintance

- heavier and larger in size

- slightly slower due to weight and smaller in cc

Tmax

- small compartment

- seems more complicated to maintance

- smaller

- more powerful

so in the end, both bikes are good in some way and bad in other which equal 50 silverwing - 50 tmax.

I manage to check out much info about the silverwing and find that its a reliable bike with just some minor problem. As for the Tmax, there just so few info about it and thats e reason why i'm hoping you guys can input me with your knowledge, example common problem or breakdown.

I'm going to sell my R6 and my small scoot Nouvo for a maxi scoot. Going to use it for daily use and some touring up north, so reliability is my top priority.

If the Tmax is a reliable bike with reasonable price for replacing the parts, i'll most likely get the Tmax.

If you come from a sport bike previous then TMAX is for you. Mono block calipers that was used on the R6/R1 and design is wicked. And the handling are much better than SW I am sure you know what I am talking about as you used to sport bikes..

i believe your concern is reliability...

so go for SW and you will not be wrong...

i cannot comment much abt tmax reliability.

but SW... it's TESTED AND PROVEN!

best of all... the parts are cheaper compared to tmax.

but again... i still love a tmax...

if after sales service is important do consider this..

when i was riding my SW, sent to BS for warranty claim. they cannot deliver my bike on that day. BS provide me a spared bike for me to ride home.

when i was riding a tmax, sent to HL for warranty claim, due to some plastic alignment i was being blamed. (tachi).

when i leave my bike there..

i need to take public transport back. :(
