Hi guys,

Have been reading both the Runner and Gmax threads and I can't decide among the 2 which is more suitable for me. Understand that Gmax parts including the wheels are quite similar to Runner. Ture?

So which is better for me for:-

i) Daily travelling of approx. 50 km

ii) Low maintenance and high reliability (read that the Runner frequently breaks down and require higher maintenance + more ex. Is this true?)

iii) I'm a new rider so preferably one that is stable. Fast not necessary just must be steady. Approx.80-90 Km/H sufficient.

iv) Good + Fat wheels. Me new mah....feel safer if wheels are bigger.

v) Also, is it better to get a new scooter or 2nd hand one?

Many thanks,

Lob

hi bro. am personally riding a Gmax200. i find it nicer to ride than the old runner. dunno about the new runner though. rode the bike for almost 1 year now. no major problem.. just change engine oil every 1,500 - 2,000km and change belt every 10,000km. gmax parts are definately much cheaper than that of the italian. you may wanna drop by our HQ, Hiap Aik Trading, which is located at 286 macpherson road to try on the gmax.

u can contact me or the other members like WhiteOryx, Ah_Dun, Section:32, Gmax_Scoot and others in our gmax thread for more info.

i) Both bike can do that.

II) Both need maintenance lah. just that Italian need more tender loving care

III) Stable. I'm bias. But the G-max have a slightly longer wheel base and the suspension setup make it abit more stable in straight and curve.

iV) fat wheels. Both as as fat nowadays

V)New or second hand? depends on individual. I'm the guy who only buy first hand bike so far. Cos I like the feel of factory fresh bike. Aslo depend on your budget, plans of upgrading and so on and so for.

Other plus point about g-max

Parts and pricing. They are easily available and very nicely priced. So nicely priced that I can just change anyparts I want without burning a big hole in my pocket. (I'm the kind that abit not happy with the feel, I do parts change type. Even though it's still very much within factory specs.)

HQ have all parts in stock. The only thing they don have is the frame and crank case.

Give them a frame and crank case, they can assemble 1 g-max out.

The G-max is aircooled with a oil cooler. So U no need to worry about water pump or radiator issues.

The G-max 200 fuel consumption is the same as VXR. 24KM/l +/-

But if you willing to sacrifice power and performance and get the 150cc one

U can get 32~38km/l depending on your riding style. Minimum is 32km/l

But there's not much 150cc. around. Cos mosy owner like the maintenance free and the low fuel consumption of the 150cc. Not much people want to sell it. If you see one, Test it. Buy it if you like it. cos It's likely to get snap up.

Seriously, end of the day, depends very much on what u wan

from your description above, i think the Gmax is for you. i'd think it's cheaper to maintain and parts are easier to find too. i owned a Runner (used) for about 4 months now and sometimes, can get headaches trying to figure things out.

i don't condemn the Runner entirely... i still love my ride. it gives me pleasure when riding it. and of course i feel good when seeing other Runners on the road.

Sometimes, I can't help but to disagree with you

We almost know the runner inside out. We know what's the problem in time to come. We know the solutions. We know that the parts are easily available.

Tons of aftermarket parts are available.

What can be better than this?

There's always a trick to rebuilding old bike. One short do all. So that problems don't come 1 by 1. as we know that all parts that is possible to fail is replaced.

The way I look at the 2 stroke runner is that. U got $, time. The bike can be closing to perfect.

I was about to start a new thread with a topic "Sym GTS250 vs Piaggio GT200".. Think I'll just tongpang here instead of starting a new thread. My dad in-law is getting a new bike and has narrowed down to these 2. How do they compare against each other? In terms of maintenance cost, service interval(how long the belt/rollers can last) and handling etc. Hope you guys can help.

Seems like words of wisdom. :D

The look of the two bikes are quite different. More sharp edges for the G-Max, and bulkier look of the new Runner. The older Runners have the curves. I'd say go for the look you prefer. It feels better justifying a decision because of your feelings, rather than justify it because of $.

I don't think the two bikes are that different in cost. The parts for the G-Max are lower, but Runner seems to have a better resale demand, so that might all even out in the end.

Not to be racist, just a funny observation, I think Malays prefer the style of the Runner, while Chinese prefer the style of the G-Max. Of course, every rule has its exceptions. :D
