thats becos the rest who are not >$5000 are mostly very young people....

 

With real inflation so high, $5000 salary does very little, definitely not enough for private housing unless one has already a good base saved up over the years.

 

 

Partially agreed, it is not a lot but it is not too shabby either. $5000 x 2 is enough for a couple (even with kids) to get by with some material comfort if they know how to save. But of course, the offset is you have to make do with HDBs (but I always feel HDBs are value for money, (especially the 1st time buyers where there is heavy subsidies) for the time being and no car or small car. But you still can go for your annual holiday and if you invest your savings wisely, you can grow your nest egg.

Actually shabby or not depends on the age , the commitments and the lifestyle. $10k per month is shabby for most of my peers and contemporaries at this point.

i guess life is like that, if have more spend/save more, if have less spend/save less.
