any modern sportsbike will have handling quality more than you'll require on the road. its limit probably only on track can reach.

handling-wise more worth comparing between sportsbikes and naked streetfighters. of coz, the sportsbike better handling, but newbies might wanna know exactly what the diff is.

Agree with you on that.

However, I noticed the litre bikes seems to be every bit as fast as the 600s around the corners of PG Track. Why is that so?

The only bikes going around PG Track significantly faster than any other bikes is the 250 2-strokers.

Even properly set-up streetfighters/supermotards with tip-top tires are almost as fast as their sportsbike equivalents on PG.

Seems to me the 600 doesn't give the edge over the 1000 in the corners at PG, while the 1000's extra torque & power gave it significant advantage over the 600.

1000 riders seem generally faster on PG than 600 riders, or so I observed.

Are my observations correct?

On a technical track like PG, rider skills are much more important. Of course, more power can be good on the straights, but that makes corners harder too. Personally, I think a skillfully ridden 600 can beat a 1000 on PG. Just look at Charn. Total ownage on his R6.

Charn has upgraded to R1 already rite?

Think he'll be even faster on an R1 round PG?

Or will his 600 times still rule?

Just speculating on bike differences while keeping rider constant .....

It may take a bit of time because it is a new bike after all. But I will be interested to know what the times are. :thumb:

I think significantly a litre class has better edge in terms of throttle control in mid-corners. Having a better mid range should equate to a better weight stability as the engine should effectively rev lower but powering with the same brute as a 600's in its high revs. It's all about driveability I guess.

In comparison to having a 600 revving into corners, they need to keep their engines on near-redline tacho counters inorder to stay on power band just to blast out of exit points, I think it's pretty hard to keep a smooth throttle in mid corners. Having to keep your 600s on a high rev would also mean a stronger engine vibration and noise. IMO, it's really hard to feel tarmac/chassis feedbacks with that strong vibes going around.

For a seasoned trackie there shouldn't be significant difference, but for newbies, being able to stay in the low revs really earns them alot more stability and confidence. I guess that's why the litre class tends to own the midweights, other than the obvious power differences.

for a beginner pondering over 600 vs 1000, this is realli no issue. for normal road-riding, there is absolutely no need at all for redlining the tacho in corners, unless you're looking for a quick route to the hospital. admittedly tho, when one is more used to the bike, one would hate taking on any corner on the road in the low rpm range, but the torque at mid-range is enuff for any local road corners.

if you're a trackie and you do find urself redlining the tacho out of the corners.... like i said earlier, u'd already noe wat bike u want. u'd either love redlining the bike out of a corner or u'd prefer the bigger grunt of a 1000.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

Oops, I meant close to red line in mid corners, the track context. A litre bike can easily keep its tacho within the mid range (6~8k) and can still blast out of corners anytime, but not totally enough for a 600.

Ofcourse, on the road, even a 125 cc is enough. I still personally feel it's easier to use the power on a litre class than on a 600. It's a matter of twist and go. But for a newbie, it's much better to try a 600/750 class first.

And ofcourse, back to the track comparison, a 600cc alongside a 1000cc, with the rider as a constant, the 1000cc will definitely always be faster. Which unless the circuit has no straights, but all tight chicanes.

I'd wait till the 2nd year of the production after a major revamp to get the bike (aka '08R1, K8 1000, '07 ZX10R, '07 CBR1000RR). This will allow the manufacturer to fix bugs with the design, and allow myself time to see the reviews (remember the brittle K5/K6 frame incident). Also, aftermarket parts will be more available.

Plus, how many of us are actually capable of riding a '04 1000cc bike to its fullest potential anyway? I think the K4 is already a lot for me to handle.

wah i so jealous.

feel so sad that i live in a small little red dot which my neighbouring countries always demand help and donations whenever they run into trouble.

feel so sad to ride boring streets where no rioting or highway robbery takes place.

feel so sad to live in a country so restrictive that theres no where i can buy a gun to keep in my fairing while i ride.

yeah, sad life that i live here.

I don't understand why SG so rich, but don't want to build a dedicated race track ... but rather having its riders/drivers risk others' lives by chionging on the roads illegally. *Sigh*

All this involved money, as long you can find someone to invest.

Nobody can to invest money in a business that cant garantee return, especially building a race track in Singapore, the land is already so expensive.

Remember few year back, we will "fighting" to building a proper skating park?

Haha ... so true, all the talk by Hvper Eddie Chua, but still no skating ring at ECP. *Sigh*

Guess money IS the key!
