this kind of thing usually for cars, therefore I don't think its waterproof... Gotta either put it at a place that is not very exposed to rain or try to water proof it using sealants...

guess as much though.. anyway, i prolly make a trip down this weekend and see the voltmeter for myself 1st.. hopefully it comes in a reasonable size...

Hey Arcfire, the ones you saw, are they they same as the pic the paiseh posted below?

Yep... didn't like the finishing and the product looked totally cheapo. Add in the fact that they cost that much, not even worth thinking about.

In fact i saw another even smaller one there, no digit display only a few lights to indicate voltage range. That one totally looked like a toy off a mama shop rack.

actually hor...I've been wondering why are voltmeters so expensive!

A digital multimeter (with voltmeter, ammeter, ohm meter...) cos less than 20 bucks! Unfortunately they run on batteries so can't tap our bike batt to power them.

So if you do not need to CONSTANTLY monitor your voltage, buying a multimeter is a better and cheaper alternative.

On car/bike voltmeters are expensive because they :-

1. Provide simple yet vital information before you get stranded or expensive components apart from the battery itself is faulty (i.e rectifier, magnetic coil, wiring loon etc..)

2. Asthestic purposes

A multimeter is a great way to monitor your battery condition and also charging condition once in while. Unless periodic maintanence/checkup is done, most motorcyclist will only use them unless something happens occurs like :-

1. Weak cranks

2. No cranks

3. Lights flickering

So an "on bike" voltmeter is a great way to monitor that before you get stranded. This adds extra cost. Towing, time wastage, take leave etc..

But when installing a voltmeter, the 3 most basic information to tell the rider is:-

1. Voltage drops below 12.3~12.5V, indicating weak battery

2. Good charging, indicating all is good!

3. Overcharging, indicating other component failure that will result in frying your expensive battery.

This voltmeter by choyster is actually a very simple yet effective voltmeter.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c378/choyster21/My%20Bike/P1030426.jpg

1. Small enough

2. Tells you the most basic stuff (more LEDs would be great! :thumb: )

I myself have been using a very similar voltmeter that is almost 1/3 the size of the above and it works great!

Thank You.

i just need a small rectangular one that show the voltage up to one decimal place.... saw it on a sports bike and it looks great.... small enough to be hidden at one corner but the display is big enough to be read easily... asked quite a few bike shop but no one seems to bring in... the one and only one that i saw was already sold by paiseh.... :(

wasted.. wonder if paiseh knows where to get it?

i dun think any shop provides repair service for voltmeter... this kind of thing, usually spoil already, no choice gotta buy new one.... :sian:

As for LEDs, the electric consumption is quite low, so should not be a problem...
