my friend mounted the GoPro Hero 3 on her Shoei flip-up helmet. no problems with the 3 points that u mentioned above

Thanks for the heads up! As asked by @naim , is she mounting at the top of the helmet or on the side? Also, do you know whether she's using the basic mount or did she get the extra helmet mount?

i able to get gopro3 black edition at $570 if there are a few orders. anyone interested let me know.

by the way, i mount my gopro3 on the front of my "mouth piece" of my HJC fullface helmet. love the footage. But of course looks abit orbiang. but i dun care, the video is good. :)

Yeah, I'd love to do that too if I wasn't using a flip up...

for gopro2 and before, that is called the "skeleton casing". for gopro3, that is called "the frame".

Posted

But the frame sucks to me. Zero protection to the lens. Drop=die. Sand fly to the lens=die. Water drip on=die. Too vulnerable alr. At least the skeleton casing on the hero 2 not bad. I tink the only choice is to drill a hole at the side.

but once hole drilled, no longer waterproof...

using the skeleton casing for gopro hd 1...

pros: can charge while recording, no fogging issues...

cons: non waterproof...

Yeah, the frame is only meant to hold the camera, not protect. Like when installing in your car, for instance.

In any case, I would be surprised if you could find a waterproof case that allowed you to plug in a charging cable... but may be possible. Check aftermarket suppliers instead.

thats a great idea. just buy an extra waterproof case n drill. anyway i think price almost same also, for waterproof and for "the frame".

Interesting... is there any chance at all you could find me a link to this "quick release buckle" and perhaps a photo of the camera when mounted on the helmet? Would be a HUGE help!! Thanks a lot in advance! :)

Many thanks! Good to know the included hardware is good enough for the job. If you can get a friend, with how she has mounted it, it would help guide me as well. No rush :) Thanks again!

Comparing between GoPro and Contour, does anybody have a link to a comparison between them at night? I found this video for Hero3 vs Contour+2 (

) but it's shot during the day. I imagine the quality of Roam2 and +2 should be about the same..? Now looking for a night time comparison, since the Black is touted as having great low light performance....

actually it is very easy.

Step 1: Attach ur GoPro hero 3 to the J hook buckle.

Step 2: Open ur flip up helmet all the way.

Step 3: Align ur cam to the center of the helmet making sure that the lower part of the helmet does not hit the the buckle or the cam. Mark that spot.

Step 4: Paste the curved or flat adhesive mount onto the helmet

Tried my top mount for the first time. Audio was bad because alot of wind noise caused by turbulence from my windscreen. So i recorded the audio through my iphone in my jacket. Used it to school today and encountered this idiot dashing out of filter lane...

Quality is really good! I'm concerned about the wind noise too... but one step at a time, lemme get the camera first :p

Do you have any night time videos? Which 'edition' of the Hero3 are you using?

EDIT: Oh wait, never mind... saw the night test on your youtube channel  The video quality is good, but can't really read number plates except when the vehicles are stationary (or moving steadily together). Is it any better when viewed on PC?

white edition. yes its better on PC. youtube tends to compress the video and quality affected a little. if ur priority is to capture plates for evidence in case of any trouble, u can always run it at 720p @ 60fps.

wind noise depends la. i see many sportbike or cruiser riders in US not much wind noise wen mounted on helmet cux the airflow is cleaner than on my scooter (airflow hits direct to the top of the helmet). another reason is i use the waterproof backdoor, not the skeleton one. they say wif the skeleton one, sound quality is much better. in SGP, i prefer to use waterproof due to the unpredictability of the weather. :)

Just out of curiosity... have you tried uploading to Vimeo? I've heard the quality there is better, but never tried for myself.

I would also certainly keep the waterproof case on in our climate, otherwise it defeats the purpose.

most impt is the video. wind noise is pretty much not within our control although it can be edited with software

i think the wind noise is ok for my hero 2 probably cuz i riding sportsbike. but the night time video quality really a big difference between hero 2 and hero 3.

Anybody here planning on buying a Hero 3 in the near future? @armani123sg is helping collect orders and can get us a better price.

I'm keen to buy, but hoping more people will join so that the price goes down :)
