Agree with wingzero

but it also could be due to a loose connection as you mention tat after hitting a bump, the volt-meter fluctuating.

I park my bike for a week and it starts pretty well, you might want to check if there is a leakage of current.

If all the above is not the cause, you might need to change ur battery at the same time have a mech to check ur recti and coil charging.

If you just changed ur batt 2 months back its better tio check the voltage coming in n out of the rectifier....it could be the cause of the fluctuations of the voltage. A new rectifier maybe needed...... btw checking the voltage is mostly done with the headlights on :)

Hi guys, how many of you have electrical issues with your 6th Gen VFR?

my RR (rectifier and regulator) gave up on me somewhere near Pagoh (a check by the mechanics earlier, was that it was fine and working), and had to be towed to Malacca. Replaced the RR there.

sino74's stator/coil, RR melted his harness and had to replace all three parts. we bumped into each other in some car park in Yishun, and chatted about our electrical issues.

to cut long story short, get a voltmeter, monitor the voltage. but then again, as someone pointed out in this forum, some of the voltmeters out there (like mine) are crap, the readings are very inaccurate (plusminus 0.5 volts)

cheers

FYI - for those who are wondering, a typical electrical system on the bike works as follows

stator/magnetic coil from flywheel (generates AC current) ----> Regulator/REctifier (rectify AC to DC, and regulates voltage) ---> Electrical Harness --> to everywhere (batts, ignition, fuses, ECM, lights, etc)

i am kinda looking ard for my nx ride... and, trying to read up on vfr.

however, as i read thru this thread.. theres alot of apprehension.. it seems like most owners have some sort of electrical issues, whether minor or major.

so, are there alot of electrical problems?

how easy is it to do the diagnostics for electrical problems?? as these probs can be expensive..

thanks for your input..

Let warn them verbally if we know any of such 2002 model owner

Let's not get alarmist abt this. While its true there are some units with problems, including my 5th genner, this kind of problems are not unique to the viffers. Proper preventive maintenance & other creative intervention by the owner of such a problem can alleviate this as I have done for my viffers.

underseat - gen 6 vtec

I m riding a 02 model and yes there is wiring issue for 02 and 03 but I diy most of the problems mention from other vfr groups

to me they are not serious matter and 3 yrs now with no problems.

new wiring harness for 02 may not have stock as differ from 04 onwards. As 04 onwards have differ harness and less problems. but still any yr vfr is a good bike as long as you maintain.

you can find your question on any problems either from vfrdiscussion or vfrworld.

Gd luck
