Hi all since i could not find any DR350 thread so i am starting one up here, though i know there are a few left in Singapore but still do hope we can revive (buy & rebuild) this excellent bike of all time.

A little history of this bike, this was one of the most popular bike back in early 90's to mid 90's in Sin, it is currently still popular in some countries for dualsport, and the latest production end at 2001 E start (correct me if im wrong) but the local dealer has stop bringing in the model from year 94 to 95.

Back in 1996 i was riding a 93 kick start SP model, after which came the KTM250, RMX250 and the wonderful XR400 which had our local boys went crazy on. During this time the DR350 was a bit being neglected and i presume a lot of them were being scrap or exported.

I am planning a little project for this bike, hopefully by end of the year i am ready and able to go for a week or two ride up to the north.

As usual for Long Distance Riding (LDR) there will be a few things we need to take care of ie; in my list are

1. Bigger fuel tank

2. Storage space (rack, box and luggage)

3. GPS and GPS mount

4. Wind shield should be useful for L.D.R

5. No idea at the time being maybe bro in here can give pointers and idea.....

1. Bigger fuel tank

I have changed to IMS 15Ltr plastic fuel tank, it give me a long travel distance of 300km instead of 140km on the stock metal tank.

2. Storage space (rack, box and luggage)

As i will be travelling alone most of the time, a 45ltr top box is enough and a waterproof bag tie down on the back seat.

3. GPS and GPS mount

Using my samsung omnia work as good

4. Wind shield should be useful for L.D.R

Did not install because the speed i am travelling is not that fast...90 -100km, comfortable crusing speed

5. No idea at the time being maybe bro in here can give pointers and idea.....

Well good to have fully equip bike but still got to consider wear and tear parts which is equally important, so i changed the front & rear brake disc and brake pad, sprocket set, kick starter cos very loose, install hand guard.

As far as i can i am trying to fabricate one if not i will look at the other bike model shield that can mod / file / cut / saw a bit to mount onto the front. The fun of projecting work on ur bike is try to DIY as much as possible, that is y i am giving myself to the end of the year.

Will keep you update if i find anything suitable.

Removing my old original broken blue 909 handguard

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05654.jpg

Broken part, screw not able to tighten

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05672.jpg

Realise bike slanted too much very difficult to work on so..........

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05669.jpg

Found out this bracket has to be sloted into the handle bar......how? Cannot be removing all handle grips and all that is on the bar........

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05665.jpg

So during desprado mode with very limited tools i had on hand, i tot of an idea..........

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05667.jpg

And manage to fix the bracket in, it is soft aluminium so no need so much strenght..........

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05666.jpg

By using of this clamp to close it back

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05668.jpg

Next i realise need to cut a hole for the end screw to be inserted......simple task use a knife and cut..........

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05664.jpg

Wala had it fix.........but tighten too tight hence and screw washer broke

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05680.jpg

http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2/batmansam/DSC05678.jpg

Updated 03-01-2010

I have managed to ride the DR to a few places in malaysia... pengareng, kukup, muar, kluang and cameron highland. The comfortable speed to travel is 90-100km. I would love to bring it up to thailand and beyong but i sold the bike cos i got a better offer on another bike. I am not posting new post on this thread as whoever read it read it.

I will probably post some updated trip on my new bike, so stay tune...
