We went to vivocity and watching midnight movie last night, caught by TP on the way back near vivocity. The bike was registed on my wife's name and the insurence is under her name. She was pillion when caught. Anyone know what is the consequences? The TP say we both will be summon by caught and may have our licenses revoked for 1 yr+1k fine. Is that true?

We both have Class 2B+3 license, and we have car and motobike. if revoke both, we both cant drive car or ride anymore?

We really dont know Motobike insurance is different with cars. cant motobike insure the bike owner enough? The insurance is made by the 2nd hand motorbike dealer and he just pass us the insurance paper. We never know such offend is soooo serious. How come such serious offend never been taught by driving school or never shown in the theory book? We told the TP we dont know, even beg him, but no use.. can only wait for summon...

The bike is actullay used very rare, just lazy to sell it....

Can anyone pls help?

Thanks and bow!

:cry::cry::cry::cry:

To TS,i have experience in court for serious traffic offences umpteens before for myself and even accompany with my frens before. For your case,Just wait within a month for the court letter to come. Most likely your case would be postponed at least once or twice till final prosecution. Its always like that for serious case.So your final date should be in 2 mths or 3mths max.Prepare fine summons around $1800 for yourself and prepared your 2b license to be revoked and same goes for your wife 2b license too.For her summon should be around $1000 plus too.But class 3 would be unlikely be revoked depending on judge on dat day.You can fix a lawyer and goes to MP to do your part for mitigating or delaying the prosecuting assessment but i can ensure you just waste your money and time.

Believe me.I been in this **** before.Singapore Gov are very strict with traffic offences such as this..Right now a word of advice.Be calm and don think about this thing anymore.Jus go thru dis and really sure to learn a good lesson after this. And usually the judge don ask you anything even if you talk to them, they just simply write down quietly and knock the 'hammer' and give out the sentence.Done in less than 3mins or less. And don worried, there will a lot of similar cases like yours on that day.

Once again, seriously its depends on the particular judge on your day to decide your sentence.Well the unfamous Sin Min editor got away with lighter punishment rite?

if "borrow" bike without her knowledge, then ts can be liable to be charge for vehicle thefts?

i would rather say my wife not feeling well that night and then ...... *fill in urself*

Its true!! the time is 2:30am, she say she is sleepy and tired... If we knew the offend is sooooo serious I should never risk both of our licenses to ride the bike...

Can MP help?

1 piece of paper only, best to always have it with you when u ride. :)

anyway add a sub rider not totally free also. need to pay a small amount of admin fee. but if the riding experiences between the 2 varies too much, i think need to add more also. but like you say, it's too late now.

lawfully, i think she will be. but then i think the judge will also ask why are u the one riding when it's ur wife name on the insurance. think of some superb reason and maybe can improve the situation slightly?

jus curious, the whole road only u and the tp?

this should not be a valid reason at all. even if u use it once a year, you still have to be insure to use it. and i think the judge will tell you it's your responsibility to find out, not his to tell you.

anyway insurance is based on age n expeirence of the rider, so its not free for the 2nd rider as the old time..

the insurance price is based on the higher cost rider..

so rider A = $500 main rider, but if u wan add rider B which premium is $600, then when u wan add rider B , u will have to pay the difference of $100 on the pro-rated sum on the remaining of the month till the end of the current insurance date..

ya i know. but guess i couldn't get the msg across properly.

that why i said need to pay a small admin fee (that is if both rider age and experience are about the same).

Actually just curious, though this is OT a little bit, If you're not carrying QDL,insurance cover note, road tax, inspection cert with you when you're stopped by TP, are you liable for any charges?

I have been stop by TP to check for insurance n license.

( My road tax also never display, cause disc always got stolen)

My insurance paper lost long ago so just so give him my Driving License.

He radio HQ..chk..after ard 5mins..say thanks u and say i can go.

I think wats most important is u have valid license, insurance and road tax.

The document is just additional, as they have it in their computer system.

You can easily **** up excuse such as paper lost, license lost etc.

Posted (edited)

I've been stopped/screen at TP roadblock before too and i just passed the TP my IC and tell him i did not bring all the other documents.

They will use ur I/C (particulars) and radio back to their OPS room to verify the rider's driving license status, the motorbike road tax validity. (road tax valid = got insurance.)

well at least for me i never did ride any bike without my name in the insurance.

normally its fine with them. :)

TS i wish all the best for u and especially your wife. Approach your MP then Try and appeal at TPD for just a fine if possible. If u're lucky, they may compond the case or at least recomend a lesser charge/penalty to the DPP.

Its better to try than to just wait for ur court case date in which it would be too late. like they say, ignorance is not an excuse. Lazyness is not an excuse either. Put a little effort to save ur class 3 and your wife's license too.

be extra careful if you are not a singaporean, and passed your license while you were on a FIN and later get converted to another FIN or NRIC.

i passed my drivers license in my student pass FIN long ago. then when started working i got a new FIN with my employment pass. one night (very late) i got stopped at a police road block at suntec city. i gave them my FIN and they could not find my records!!! the officer told me to park the car, get out, then started interrogating me. keep insinuating that i'm driving without a valid license. after MANY MANY minutes, he asked me if i ever had any traffic offense. i then told him yes, i ran a red light once and got a summons.

he then checked again and found my records under the old FIN and let me go.

so...please check if you are in similar situation.

sorry about this being a little off-topic. just wanted to add this info since there were questions about using just your IC.

wow! seems like ts have to just suck thumb and face the music. if wife is not on the bike then mayb oni ts will kena. now wife also on the bike so naturally tp will say that since both are license holder then its really knowing the rule yet breaking it. and when they say revoke license would means whatever license that is under the license holder name will be revoke. i am sure this kind tp wun give chance. i have a friend who test ride a bike and bike insurance not under his name. suay suay kena caught now revoked have to re take tp riding test again.

Singaporean PRs cannot drive in Singapore with their Malaysian License.

Even if they have a Singaporean License, they cannot drive a Malaysian registered vehicle in Singapore.

if someone jus moved to singapore, he can get an international driving permit which is valid for 1 year with the malaysian license and drive in singapore (singapore car) within 1 year in singapore. however, if he wants to continue to drive in singapore, he needs to convert his license. since he already here 15 years, then he needs to check with TP if he can still convert or needs to retake the license in singapore. dont think all these is set in stone, so he should go to TP with a good story to get a conversion

Hey guys, thanks for your advice.

On the spot we understood we were wrong. And now prepare to be punished. The problem is we are both unfortunately out of loop of such law prior to geting our licenses. We are chinese PR and both of our licenses just been converted to Singapore ones for less than 1 yr, that means both of us are under probation with yellow triangle displayed on our vehicles. We understand now we deemed to be caught sooner or later.

Thanks to Valen11, like he said, it needs 2~3 months to complete the procedures. We just wish the judge can hold his hands a bit not to revoke our class3 licences, or at least save 1 of ours....Our slender point is if the simlar case happened in a car, say, if I drive my wife's car, it would not be considered breaking law, right?

We consulted MP, MP said he must have the case number to help us. So the only thing is to wait for summon at moment.....
