Naim, any tips to make phantom top speed higher without sacrificing pick up? Please don't ask me to dismantle my top box and windshield.

There is no such thing as free in this world. Haha. Want more top speed, must sacrifice pickup. The only sure way is to change your sprocket setup. The different ratio of front and rear sprocket will affect acceleration/top speed.

A ride a day, keeps the doctor away!

I guess I'm stuck with this top speed until I decide to strip my ride naked... hahaha. I actually think pick up is more important for riding in Singapore than top speed (cruising). I realised that everytime I signal to change lane, the cars in that particular lane I am switching to begins to accelerate furiously (suddenly becoming very bigger in my side mirrors). There was even once at Choa Chu Kang when 1 taxi hit my left side mirror when I signaled and change lane (I'm supposed to be the faster lane).

Hi all,

just bought a 8 year phantom black a week ago.

Having problems already,

1st Problem:

First Time.

Engine just dies off suddenly on the highway. ( Happened twice )

First time I think it was due to empty tank.

When I topped up to full tank it showed ( 8.52L )

And engine could start again, after I turned fuel knob to reserve.

2nd time.

Happened on highway after going 100++ from Bishan to Pasir Ris.

This time I thought it was the same problem as the first.

Went to top up petrol, but this time only topping up 6.34L.

This means, that my engine died not because of an empty fuel tank.

2nd Problem:

Engine just dies whenever I let it idle awhile on its own.

Bike is stationary.

Please advice. :)

A lot of things may result in engine dying off suddenly at low revs.

1. Dirty air filter

2. Lean carb settings

3. Jammed brake calipers

4. Distortion in brake discs.

5. Fuel cock choke

Just to list a few. Like Calico said, if still under warranty, then push your machine a little harder to troubleshoot potential problems which the bikeshop choose not to do when they sell you the bike. Remember, the less things they repair/ replace before selling you, the higher the profit margin.

Leaking from where? From engine head, replace gasket about 40. From crankcase near eo plug, if o ring replacement less than 15. If on the engine block crack, or below crankcase due to threading on eo plug, then collect more ang bao first.

How do you differentiate between Custom 3 and 4?

Also, I read in the manual that we are required to operate the choke when cold starting the engine. Do you all do that, or just leave it at the OFF position all the time?

Posted

No idea there's a custom 3 or 4. I only know in terms of

Gen 1 TA200 where

1. the ignition is at the side

2. Triple tree has 3 indicator lights

3. No fuel low warning sensor

4. Fuel cock has 3 positions On Off Reserve

5. Has a Kill engine switch

6. High beam low beam toggle switch

Gen 2

1. Ignition switch at Triple tree

2. Low fuel sensor plus warning light

3. Chrome Fork covers

4. Wider handle bars than Gen 1

5. Passing light button at left handle assembly

Custom Black edition

1. Generally same as Gen 2

2. Chrome covers are in black (side covers, fork covers, speedo meter housing)

The choke is useless for some of us. Mine is even broken and I didn't even bother changing it.

I actually have a problem, every time I start my bike, it will actually die out, I adjust the idling, but it always die out.

I even pull choke and start before going off, but once I kick down and half clutch the whole engine died.

Got check on the

1) Spark plug

2) Air filter?

3) Fuel:Air ratio.

If these 3 fail then might be a timing problem.

So I checked my engine oil today after riding home from work. I cleaned the dipstick and stuck it in (without screwing in) and when I took it out, there was nothing on the end of it.

When I wiped the dipstick, the oil was colourless. Am I supposed to check the engine oil only after warming the engine from cold start and not after extended periods of riding?
