is the number plate still registered? if number no longer valid i dun think you can transfer to your current bike now.. anyway, even if its valid and you can transfer to your current bike which is used already.. i think the transfer itself cost $1000.. that's y many pple who want to retain their wonderful numbers buy a brand new cheap bike.. rather than pay the 1k..

It's not like they're going to run out of number and alphabets combination. The $1K transfer fee is more like of an extortion; don't pay, don't get your dream plate.

can share how people would want to abuse the system? what's there to abuse?

If the transfer cost is cheap, I would be the first to get rid of my "2nd hand bike" license plate and get another one. Soon, lots of people will also join in. Therefore, LTA will have more work. So to prevent people from abusing THEIR system, its only caters to those who are willing to spend that amount. :)

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT. :angel:

Changed my # plate recently bcos the rear plate starting with # 4 and ends with X, do irks me after FEW Chinese kakis mentioned something about negative aura. :cheeky:

Upon fails in scoring the bid for #1 plate at the recent new series bidding exercise, I go for the next available ‘nice’ # at the 2nd bid opening (Last snip-shot below ... Nice # is subjective to individuals, so pls keep any comment to yourself, thanks).

As for me, I need to pay $321 (include GST) ON TOP OF THE BID # which I hv secures (Minimum bid is $1000, but bear in mind, small bids = small chance :( ). As for this case, refer to column-1 at the snip-shot below.

As for the TS query, column-2 applies;

After this & that fees :deal:, you still need to pay abt $1,3++ (on top of the double transfer of ownership, should u wanna buy those nice # plate, sells by the fellow forumers. All in all, the total fees may come-up to $1,500 for the BIKE-TO-BIKE transferring of # plate.

So, means, if someone in the forum is selling their nice # plate, say for $5000; do put aside another $1500 (approx) for it ... just like when u wanna buy a motorcycle, machine price & on-the-road price are two different animals :-)

Hope this helps :thumb:

but after ur sp, what bike u bought ? as in brand new or 2nd hand one..

if 2nd hand one yet u pay $100 for retention, mean the bikeshop absorb at least 1k if i am not wrong, doubt they will do that unless the price they say u bike is carrot lol..
