Sneaked off work today and went to take a look at the RC8R, but there was none to be found.

Only one there was having it's top ripped off and couldn't be fired up. Disappointing...

Another day then... 1198S not your cup of tea??

This far, that is the only showroom & bike that didn't disappoint.

But I missed the 1098S Tricolor by a couple of hours.

Bottom line is that when you are expected to pay that much for a bike, you expect top quality service. Sadly, this may not necessary be the case...:sian:

That's what I thought so to...

It's a nice bike but my experience at PML today left me very disappointed.

Headed down to Alexandra just to view the bike but was informed, the bike section is located at Bukit Timah so there I went.

Showroom didn't have one on display but I was brought upstairs to take a look at a customer's bike. Unfortunately, the sales person didn't seem to know a thing about bikes and we wasted 30 minutes upstairs talking about what the magazines and the websites say about the bike!!!

If I wanted to know what the magazines or websites say, I'll go read them myself!

My request to fire up the engine just to hear the sound was turned down, they offered to call me when a customer brought theirs in which I felt was ridiculous! There I am and there is the bike; you mean I have to come back another day?

I was very keen in one dressed in BMW colors; I actually told my partner I must have one of them when I saw it in PML, but I'm not gonna fork out that kind of money without even being allowed to fire he engine up.

Told the sales person that he's loosing a sale, he just shrugged his shoulders as I left.

Never going back, what a waste of time...

On a side note, those of you who are keen, the bike cost 42K or thereabout. You get Brembos but the cheap ones, Showa forks, Nissin brake pumps and unknown wheels.

The sales persons couldn't tell the difference between a Ohlins and a Showa.

is your dissatisfaction with the service more on the point of the salesperson's magazine/internet information, or that he did not start a bike up for you?

I strongly believe in getting the right people to do the right job.

In this case, not only did PML failed to get someone familiar with motorcycles to represent them, they also failed to train him in handling customers.

Totally agree with yoshitei. Al least PML staff should know the product that they are selling and that their services match the over-price that they charge!

is the price of 42k OTR including options such as the traction control, etc?

i was all ready early this year to buy the baby gs - they didnt even need to "sell" it to me - had deposit in hand. after speaking with them twice and coming away feeling like they couldnt be bothered about selling me the bike, or the bike itself, or me, I decided to PI myself...

easy as pie :)

love the bike

thats strange, I always had good service from the sales ppl at pml over the years, though their product knowledge is not up to standard.

Hi,

Was offered $36K OTR for a new PI-ed S1000RR at Loois. PML is $43K machine price.

What gives?

Understand that PI bikes have to pay $5K upfront for servicing at PML. Apart from that, what else do i need/should know?

Curious abt the pros and cons of a PI bike.. 36 OTR seems reasonable for a bike of that package.

Anyway the 36k one comes with Traction control and abs?

The RR on my Fireblade represents "Race Replica"

I believe it comes with it, didnt really go down on technicalities while i was there.

PI bikes of BMW are the true measure of the cost of a BMW bike, afterall. The reason why we are paying for so much more at PML is due to the "royalties" they have to fork out to be the SOLE dealership, hence monopolising the market here.

How else could a bike that cost merely ~$2K USD more than a Jap bike in the States, could cost $15K more here?

Why need to service specifically at PML? Is the bike so sophisticated that only mechanics at PML knows how to service it???

In most instances of me prowling this forum for the past few years, i usually take a back seat. But, the conversations in this 'foreign' thread seem to have sparked interest in me to contribute.

I do not wish to slam, but i do have to agree with the perspectives of the two gentlemen in their experiences with the aforementioned dealer - I too, would have walked away and not give them my business.

Also the post that 'Aie' stated a couple pages back after the discovery of the insane price tag - something along the lines of - 'does that mean we'll have to go back to the common jap bike' - haha

Its very interesting indeed. Anyway, I myself have dreams of owning (well at least for the past 3 years - the Ducati 1098s, and now the 1198s) - but of course the prevailing fact of the budget leaving me thinking i'll have to survive on plain white rice and hot water with salt in it for meals during the payment period of the bike.

I then considered the 848 as a cheaper alternative, but am still bouncing back between practicality and desire. In most cases, after I buy something I really wanted, i get bored of it, and the achievement is then slowly diminished into nothing but a passing thought of appreciation - Must like my Ibanez JEM7V guitar i bought earlier this year, only to sell it and buy the lesser Ibanez RG370 (sorry to deviate) - as I conformed to the Economists perspective of utility mixed with the notion of functionality.

This gave rise to my contemplation of the upcoming 2011 R6. I mean, I've always loved the yamahas, especially the R1 - but if i get an R1, i might as well get the 848 - and if i get the 848 - its the equivalent power class as the 600 inline 4s - thus might as well get the R6.

I guess my point here is that - I dont have a point. But thanks for listening.

cheers

The fact that there will always be a diminishing feel of achievement will set in right after we own the piece that we've craved for for mths, or even years. Been there.

This S1K is definitely not a dream, but just a change. Would love to hear from those who rightfully own these machines. They are probably reserved with their opinions/comments.
