Diesel is the cheap way of removing grime on the chain but its not advisable to pour into the drain as it'll clog it. Try to get degreaser. Also the chain lube try to get those with Teflon for better protection. Bicycle shops sell a big can for maybe 15bucks? Doesnt have to be Castrol or anything just because its a motorbike

im not sure of the warm chain idea, but i just lift my bike onto the stand and engage first gear and get a friend to spray the chain while its slowly turning. just maybe let the chain go 2 revolutions and spray consistently. ensure that the part linking 2 linkages are lubed properly some people lube the centre part, which is completely useless.

u apply a layer of keroene wif the brush and brush off the dirt..

use water to rinse off the excess..

ride the bike for 10 mins and not around the carpark.. must be on road to somewhere. as this will allow chain to heat up.. onli then u spray the chain lube of yr choice..

:)

Hi all

previous;y i use Hunter brand chain oil...from LAB

just yesterday i bought a dffrent brand (see pics below) coz hunters brand no more already...

but when i read the instruction n so on..it said that the product is flammable???...y ah?...sorie i'm noob to ask this q

but in my opinion, if it is flammble...den the thing can caught fire...say my chain become too hot...possible to reach it BP...n even fire...den it should be dangerous for the bike rite?...

coz the hunter brand is not flammable.

on the other hand...this product seems to be sticking to my chain better than the hunter's brand...

anyone use this b4??

Of course it's flammable, it's a pressurised aerosol container (ie, spray can). Some of its propellants may consist of alcohol or petroleum products.

Remember the secondary school "WD40 flamethrower" experiment? :3

It's contents are also under pressure which means if you put it in a fire...... But once sprayed on, the 'carrier' propellant evaporates leaving you with the non-flammable residue.

I'm using the same thing ($8 from Planet) and indeed it sticks like superglue to anything. I even use it to add extra life to my wheel bearings.

time for you all to go green and cut down on chain wax and cleaner..

install an oiler..that will do the job too...the money saved on your sprays and the savings and other benefits of the oiler will pay for the oiler many times over..as it saves time, effort and money.

wonderful idea..but..

i haved installed the ezzyoiler over the week end...

solves one of the biggest headache in maintaining the bike..

after installation and the next day can feel the impact of a smoother and quieter ride..

the bike runs easier and pick up seems to be faster..not sure of top speed.

as a newbie rider...i can only say thank you EZZYOILER...

i think better fuel consumption is on the cards..the way the bike reacts to the gear shifts and its power delivery ..

i am looking for an extended chain life too...

Hi,

to your question, it is quite a hard one to ans but i'll try to make it simple.

Think about it this way,

Even the heavy duty types have a layer of lube(or you may call it, o-ring) to keep the chain lubricated, so as not to cause any kinks of any sorts.

So if WD40 was to lube the chain, (Eg. loosen a rusted part), it will still degrade the lube that u have on the o-ring.

BTW, just FYI, WD40, is a water displacement, and a degreeser. it is not meant for lubing the chain. For chain cleaning, you should use kerosene to clean it, and lube it with a proper oil. (eg. 4T if you don't mind cleaning the rims ever other day. Or you could just purchase a non fling type chain lubes on the market.)

Hope you understand my explanation.

you will end up with a very dry chain..extremely dry chain...if i may add.

wd is a degreaser of sorts.....rendering your chains lubeless with time..

this thin film of wd 40 ( which actually stands for "water displacement

40 attempt..thats how the brand was derived) is utterly hopeless as a chain lube.

drop this idea of idea using it as a lube..IMHO..

but some think that this is the best lube...

wd40 as a chain cleaner and lube...

there is enough controversies already..read this if u are keen to find out..

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312191

tx for the input...guys..i guess either ezzyoiler or the "spray on" chain lube is the best...

the reason why i ask is..if u can see frm my previous prevous post..i buy this spray chain lube from LAB..work well..but the amt spray is too much even when i press lightly..is good in a way..stick to the chain..but much of the lube is wasted to the ground..as a result last me for 1 mth only...to me nt cost effective

was looking for a cheaper alternative ( understand using engine oil) but hav to lube often. is there anorther alternative..where the the lube is sticks ( same capabilities as spray on chain lube) but it is the use brush on type?...hope u all noe wat i mean..

i have no regrets on this oiler that i installed...low cost and the2t or 4t used on the oiler is $3/L..it is going to last me ...500 applicationsor 500 days....my god 1.5 years of usage at 2ml/applications..

at $2 per year for the lube...it is pratically no cost.. compared to the $10/ mth spray wax and u still have to clean the chains..

oiler is the way to go if u think about cost efectiveness....
