Yes, back drum brake. Ya may be can remove and reposition the level. Why the shop never advise me, every time he pull the chain on the sprocket ( a bit loose) and show me that you have to change both items.

if the chain wear is not uniform

or the chain adjustment is to the max..

or a particular link is wear off seriously,

is rite to change it..

:)

or becos yr name is Mr robert.. then oso hav to change..

used EO is better. tend not to fling as much as new EO.

as it's generally thicker.

the purpose of a lubricant is to lubricate..because of the stresses on the moving parts..the oil/lubricant looses its lubricating properties with time.

now Used EO?? is good??:dot:

thats a mis conception. Once the EO has gone through the bike and its life is over...it still good.??? of course not.

the only saving grace is that the chains/sprockets stresses may be lesser than those in the engine (but i cant believe i am saying that...correct me guys)..even so..the used EO has picked up all sort of rubbish, mettallic chips (just drop a magnet on to the used oil and guess what it will be covered with chips) scums, grime, goo and whatever thats why it is BLACK or BLACKER.....its viscosity is gone. the chips will wear out your chain instead o lubricating it.

how come it is stickier?? this defies explanation..it is stickier because of all the **** in it and it does nothing to provide lubrication...

gentlemen..i suggest u read up on scottoiler write up..maybe u can learn something from it.:dozed:

Mine, 100,000km and counting. DID 530 on a VFR800.

I use 80~90wt gear oil; lubing whenever the chain roller starts to shine, or after washing or riding through the rain. I check on every fuel top up. Clean it whenever it gets mucky.

100,000km and counting:eek: Must be well maintain. But gear oil are petroleum base product which is killer for rubber O ring. May be DID using new type of silicon o ring. I shell change my to gold type next time. Everytime the shop give me the black one.

BTW, how many time you adjusted the chain?

i oso find it funny..

1st time i hear used eo is thicker..

cos of the use of eo in the engine especially 4-stroke.. is almost impossible to get stickier..

but regarding abt the metal chips in EO, during running in/brake in, sure hav some.. but after some time, the metal chip is not that significance anymore..

the main property of EO and abt to stick on the metal parts or surface and provide the lub. the blacker of the eo is cause by the operating temp.

Ive played around and find that despite lubricating my ta200 chain with maxima chain wax, using a cloth to rid of the dirt and grime once in a while results in a smoother ride.

motul chain lube is da best ive tried. need to preheat the chain before u apply and for best result not to fling to leave it overnite. cleaning is a breeze with motul chain cleaner. available at motoworld.

if u r to use eo, its good but wont last long like chain lube does. alternatively get the scottoiler from motoworld or hkl

yeah..should be good...

but u still have to clean the chain man...

those who use waxy, thick spray that sticks like mad..u still have to clean your chain if not you will be making goo cakes on your chain after a while..

IMHO.

wd 40, people have swear on it as a good cleaner...but there are others who says it is best avoided..lub of any kind is good for chain..

grease spray??..going to be messy...also watch out for throw off.

yeah i use an oiling device...i dont even clean my chain now, as the oiler does quite a decent job of cleaning it while lubricating the chain...my is a diy...check out the phantom knights /clinic thread for the response of this diy http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195464&page=14

Picture of my DIY chain oiler

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x97/S750WP/SNC00151.jpg

My DIY Chain oiler set up

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x97/S750WP/SNC00152.jpg

90ml syringe to contain the oil and a hole make on the cover for the oil to flow smoothly

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x97/S750WP/SNC00153.jpg

Plastic On/Off valve cost, $2 per pc, its better than the metal one which leaks after some opening and closing

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x97/S750WP/SNC00154.jpg

Regulator to control the drip at 1 drop/min the dripper I am using the tubing from a pump of hair bubble dye.

Materials:

1 x 90ml syring

1 x cover from car wash (to cover the syring, poke a hole on it as breather)

Tubing ID 5mm and 3mm

1 x on/off valve (aquarium)

1 x regulator (aquarium)

1 pc of wire (to form the frame to tie the dripper to the sprocket)

2 x rubber washer ( to secure the wire frame on the swing arm)

1 x pump tubing from the bubble dye

Cable ties

The chain oiler needs to be prime. meaning to open the valve and the regulaotr fully for the oil to flow till you see the whole line is filled with oil, then regulate the oil to 1 drop/min then close the valve. Just on the valve when ridiing and it will oil the chain.

so if forgot to off?

coz i am sure i will forget to off it de. haha

If you forgot to off then you will only find a puddle of oil on the floor. If you can afford I would advice to invest in scott oiler, the valve will close automatically when you switch off the engine.

then you should use The Phantom knight thread " the clinic"..

forget to off = alittle bit of oil wasted only.. not the whole puddle of oil..

pros and cons lor.. 2 methods.. you choose ;-)

scottoiler is worth investing if you are loaded... student like me cannot afford.. So DIY

Pro of my DIY oiler is cheap and provide continuous lubing during the ride like scott oiler. Con is puddle of oil if forget to close the valve. I have read from others using a vacuum operated petcock to control on/off.
