No one will disagree that all vehicles such as cars, bikes, etc, need warming up.

However, idling the engine is not the correct way of warming up the bike. The correct way to warm the engine is on the move by riding slowing to bring the engine up to operating temperature before using it normally.

:)

agreed... start up awhile.. den smoke one stick.. den ride off slowly.. den 1~2 min of riding slowly.. feel the bike is about there.. can start to go average speed liaoz.. :D

so a good 1-2 mins of idling + low rev ntill engine hot den it's good to go?

yeah.. estimated total process needs 5min? depends on weather..

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

You know while waiting to warm up the bike you can do a pre-ride check you know... Saves time and money! :thumb:

I normally start my bike first, then let idle while slowly put on helmet, slowly push the bike out and ride on low revs for about 2 or 3 minutes before proceeding ride as normal. This is to slowly warm up the engine and brake pads just for safety sake as well, because my brakes are drum type for both front and back.

Sometimes only. But must do once in a while. I remember for a month i was so busy no time and then i didnt realise that my bike no taillight for about 3 weeks.

If waiting for bike to warm up, pump your brakes a little bit. I pump more for my rear brake because its drum brake and every morning will squeak like got mouse inside. My brake pad got alot left its just that the brake dust collect inside the damn drum.

People like us got no cigarette to smoke so i will do the basic checks, headlight, signal lights, tail lights, fuel c0ck and mirrors. Its a habit ah. Like when people say that when you first ride you bike you very on then you start to slack in a few things. But for me i will never ride if never wear long pants and if long distance, i will wear gloves. Even a few years from now, i still think that i will still wear gloves when i ride, with "pozer" "46" sewn on my gloves.

Just so you know, many times in the morning a pre-ride check makes me understand my bike for that day. Because sometimes the mirror someone go and meddle, play with your switches and the gear. So must check. Imagine someone cut yout brakeline how? So easy. Just use sissors. Or open up your crankcase and fill it with sand. Yes, i am a paranoid little boy and i think that cute lil evil penguins are out to get me.

how do we know that we have warmed up properly? mine is a spec 1

i remember got once when my spec 1 was not warmed up properly, i felt very laggy in terms of power delivery.

i noe if it is warmed-up properly when the idling speed is stable. my cold-start idling speed is abt 500-700rpm. When warmed up, it is ard 1k rpm. brought a smile to my face when able to start my spec 1 at one push of the starter button despite the low idling rpm, when my super4 neighbour have to pull the choke or open throttle in the morning. :p

Thanks to the damn good carburetor tuning of Unique Motorshop's guest of honor mechanic who was on ad-hoc.

Personally I find that when the bike is warmed up properly the engine performs better and runs smoother. It could be my imagination but I find that it's actually more powerful after a proper warm up as opposed to a cold start.

So for all those people who want to squeeze out every last bit of HP from the bike I suppose you'd definitely want to warm up your engine.

Yeah after warming up of engine , the bike tend to respond better and fast .

For me i will warm up my bike before moving off. Cos i feel that there difference. My rpm in the morning is usually less then 1k rpm which will be quite jerky when moving off. For me i usually warm up by wearing my jacket, gloves and helmet then after that check the condition of the bike then move off. Should be most of the time juz nice 1k rpm le.
