HI there bros!

I have quite a dilemma. The bike shop that i bought from suddenly told me that they have to take back my bike cos they haven transfer ownership to me yet and the old owner needs to go to court to settle his saman.

Now, i'm soo confused.

what do i need to do and what can i get from this?

what more from a very reputable bike shop which i shall not name. I'm happy with thier service, but very very dissapointed with thier business practice.

What's the connection between ownership transfer and outstanding summons ?

Unless the bike shop sold the bike without the owner's consent.

Another more important point is that your insurance coverage is only valid when you are the effective owner of the bike. if you had an accident, you would be in a bigger mess.

Go to the shop, return the bike and take your money back, including insurance premium. I wouldn't do business with that shop.

bro insurance coverage is valid even if you're not an owner.

You better check with your insurer. I am are not talking about sub-rider.

Not sure about other insurers but if it's NTUC, then I'm definitely correct.

i'm talking about more than one policy for a bike.

used to have two policies for my bikes for a whole year, hence four legal riders.

do you mean the other policy really not valid?

damn then we've been ***ked big time.. lucky no accident happen.

Don't worry, you are not alone. I also found that out not too long ago.

The shitty thing is that when you buy insurance for the bike, they never ask at all. When I questioned them, they replied that I did not ask, and they assumed that all policy holders are also registered owners.

wow. so in order to earn more money, insurance coys dun warn you about that clause first? Let non-owners buy first and assume they are covered? nice.... everywhere we go oooo, kena !@#ed in the ass ahhh....

The thing is, its a no-choicer. Only way for you to get a bike transfered to under your name is to have an insurance coverage under your name for it first.

I found out about this when I was helping to sell my dad's bike to a good friend.

Was worried about the insurance arrangement when he told me no worries.

He can get the insurance done the day before we transfer the bike.

And here I was thinking about getting the LTA to do a probation transfer and using that paperwork to get an insurance coverage before going back to LTA and getting the transfer confirmed and permanent.

It really turns out I can buy an insurance for any vehicle, even if I'm not the owner of that vehicle.

Just to make LTA transfer paperwork easier.

So its not just the insurance company to blame, if you ask me....

The fact that you can just buy motor insurance for any bike which you do not own, and the insurer doesn't even make a sound, will give policy holder a false impression that he has proper insurance coverage when in reality he doesn't.

This is a misconception even in SBF, even in this thread. I want to make this fact known because I know many bikers are not aware of it, and when they find out it could be too late.

Can you imagine if that rider were to get into an accident, and he is being sued by the other insurer for third party claims, and the rider's insurer dropped the bomb on him by saying that since you are not the registered owner, your insurance policy is not valid.

Is it too much to ask for the insurance agent to say " your insurance coverage will only be effective when you are the registered owner " ?

Oh c'mon.

Its a PTE LTD.

Bottomline overrules everything.

Plus the loophole created by LTA's requirement for transfer of ownership, you can see where the fix should be aimed at first.
